I ordered a G4 iBook from them. Received it. It had a bad hard drive or something. Kept getting the screen saying I needed to restart my computer.

I have gone through the process of returning it. They have received it, and I'm now waiting for my credit card to be credited with my money.

Their return process said it could take up to 10 days, so I'm on pins and needles at the moment.

Anybody know of any recourse I have if it looks like they're gonna drop the ball?

Thanks

read sticky post about fraud mac retailers

Everyone,
Please read the sticky post about the fraud mac retailers...i read them when i joined the forums...This seems to be jus like those scams....I can tell u that it is 100% scam....coz in the earlier ones also someone would register and write a good review abt the retailer....i dont know what happened to the whole saga as the mods closed the thread.....but please read it and do not order from them...its a SCAM!!!

If hike gts his order, maybe they noticed that the G4 was under priced and failed it so that they did not have to sell it to you.

Update again:

My card was credited with the amount I paid last night. So apparently, it's not a scam.
Yeah haven't ever charged my card (yet) for anything. But the place is obviously not a reputable business. I still say stay as far away as possible

Gainsaver.com

Hello,

I work for Gainsaver.com and I have recently been alerted to the postings at this website. We ship HUNDREDS of items a day and have many happy customers. As far as Heb1228 is concerned, he said himself his credit cards charge was "pending" for a week and a half and then disappeared. His card was NEVER charged. Heb1228 ordered a used system that failed burn-in and diagnostic testing, of which, he was never charged for. We were up-front and honest with him all along regarding his order. For Heb1228 to jump the gun and slander our company, implying that we will sell his card info without any backing or proof, is absurd. Heb1228 might want to rethink his makeshift slanderous website.

We ship to many happy customers every day. We have nothing to hide, and we are easily contacted at the phone number posted on our website. 877-657-1464. When dealing with used equipment we are bound to have some items that are shipped back to us. That is why we have 3 month warranties. When items are returned we credit the customers cards back within 24-48 hours.

We try as hard as we can to make everyone happy. But some customers, no matter how hard you try, are impossible to please. But we will always bend over backwards in an attempt to do so.

Wow. Accusing Heb, or any other customer -- but especially Heb, of slander isn't going to get you very far on this forum.

And I think you mean libel.

Which it's not.

I feel that the representative from Gainsaver.com should be allowed to respond in this thread. Obviously, if the site is shown to be illegitimate, then the appropriate measures will be taken.

As always, caveat emptor. I cannot in any way vouch for Gainsaver.com. However, don't expect discount used computer sites - even legitimate ones - to offer the same levels of service and reliability as sites which are more well known and, for lack of a better term, reputable.

Gainsaver.com

I am not accusing anyone of anything. I was simply saying he may want to rethink his statements before accusing US of anything.

A possible clarification on Visa "pending" charges.

A vendor can place a "Pre authorization" on a charge card, which tells them that the cardholder has sufficient credit. This does not result in a charge being put through, but DOES remove that amount of money from the cardholder's spending limit. So if you had $1000 remaining credit on the card, and a vendor preauthorized $500, you could not charge another $600 item, because you would have only $500 credit remaining.

This pre-authorization falls off automatically after 7 or 10 days if the vendor does not execute an invoice for that charge.

Of course I have no idea whether this is the case in this instance.

Gainsaver

Thank you for your input jsw. We ARE a reputable company and we DO offer a high level of customer service. We offer many different items on gainsaver.com, not just used apple equipment. And many items we offer there DO have same day shipping. If there is anyone on this site that has ordered from us and would like additional service, they can contact us at 877-657-1464. We will do whatever we can to make you happy.

Thanks,

Ryan Hinkle X302

Be accurate in what you say.

Heb reported his personal experience of the company. Which was, his order was not shipped when promised, he got unsatisfactory responses from the company for 2 weeks, and ultimately the company couldn't deliver what they had advertised. From his experience, he is completely justified in judging that a company is not reputable to deal with, when they fail to deliver what was promised.

No accusation is necessary or was made AFAICS.

CanadaRam

CanadaRam is correct. The card was only authorized for the amount of the order but not charged. Once the authorization went through, then the order was processed. If the item tested bad, and it was the last item of its kind in stock, then the customer was notified. But still never charged.

That's pretty funny. Anytime I called I was given the complete run around. The person on the other end of the phone simply answered "Hello?" The last time I called I said, "Yes, what company am I calling?" The response was, "uh.. um... well... there are several companies that use this phone number... who were you trying to call?" Laughable.

The site only offers web form email so I don't have a copy of the email I sent. This was one of the replies I received after several days had passed and I got no contact. I asked for a personal response and not another copy of the form letter that I received twice before.

We test the used equipment before we ship. The guys are doing that now.
We will let you know if we have any issues.

Thanks

So my personalized reply was including my name in the subject line. BTW, I reported Gainsaver to the FBI when all this happened.

I can go into more details if needed about the absolute absurdity that was this whole experience. They claimed they were "testing" the machine for almost a full week. I worked in an Apple Reseller tech shop. Testing a machine takes about an hour to make sure its functioning. Not to mention why do they wait until you order to start testing it?!

Let me reiterate that more details can be found here: http://www.brenthobbs.com/gainsaver.htm as well as here: http://forums.dealnews.com/read.php?9,2537348,2543961

That seems to be entirely typical. I don't think we've had a single person on the forums report a good experience. There was one post by a n00b who was obviously someone from the company masquerading as a satisfied customer. Then there was another guy that seemed to be threatening to sue for posting this stuff and making a page on my website that talked about the whole ordeal.

I'll repeat please read the sticky post on this forum titled Fraudalent Mac Retailers....After u read it u will realise that gainsaver is just like those previous scams....

I'm not disagreeing with your opinion, but I want to point out one difference: They are selling used gear. That is an important difference between them and the outright phoney storefronts that offer Macs for 30% off which we know is impossible. One member here posted that they did get a powerbook from them (it was faulty and was returned) and another member did post that their chargecard was refunded (after non-delivery of product).

Now; the reported record of customer service, product quality and delivery, their lack of history, ambiguous addresses, lack of rating on epinions or resellerratings, non-appearance in the Better Business Bureau search, etc. is worth reading and thinking seriously about, and there is no guarantee that a company that exists today will continue in business tomorrow, but I think this site is not at the same level the blatantly phoney storefronts reported in the past.

gainsaver.com

Hello this is Ryan from gainsaver. I still back our service and products. It is sometimes dificult when selling used equipment. Some of it just doesnt work. If we see a problem before it leaves, we dont ship it. If it is faulty when the customer gets it, we have a no questions asked return policy. We take equipment back that works great, but the customer simply didnt like the way it looks. No problem. We ship litteraly hundreds of orders a day. We are not perfect, we may make a mistake from time to time. But, we do our best to make everyone happy in the end if you give us a chance.
Heb1228, I am sorry for your negative experience with our company. What can I do to make you happy. We did not ship you faulty equipment. We never charged you for anything. Your system unfortunately failed the burn-in. We then tried to find another unit but could not. Yet you are making it personal. Daily posting negative remarks about us. Again, what can I do to make you happy. Would you like free shipping on a system for your troubles. We will work with you, as we will everyone.
I again offer my services to ANYONE on this forum. We DID have one person post a positive response here, and no, they are not a representative of our company. One thing people here may not realize is that happy customers rarely search out forums where they may vent how pleased they are. Although, unsatisfied customers are angry, and rightly so. These are the customers that search out places to vent frustrations. Considering the thousands of orders a week we ship, we have very few problems.
Anyone with questions, comments or concerns can call me now at 877-657-1464 x302. I will do whatever I can for you. Please call.

Thank you for your time.

peanut48, you really shouldnt use words like "scam" when describing companies you know nothing about. We dont "scam" anyone. People are so quick to throw damaging words around. Although when I say I am here to take anyones concerns, not one person calls. The same few people keep posting negative feedback. Although, when I state that I will do anything I can to help make them happy, they dont call me. Some of you might want to look at what you do for a living and ask yourselves, are you perfect? We are not, but when a mistake is made we try to rectify it. Some people will not even give us the chance to do so. Please let us.

Not difficult at all. A reputable company makes sure the goods work BEFORE offering them for sale. Not after taking the order.

There you go being logical again. You really must stop doing that!

Personally i think we should ban the RAM for his logical thinking.

It ruins companies like gainsaver.com because people realize that they are not very consumer oriented.
