Refund!

Gainsaver found it in their budget to reimburse all but the shipping fees. I feel that this is acceptable since with some encouragement they did pay for the RMA shipment. Case Closed!

Gainsaver Feedback

I recently purchased a Powerbook notebook 17" 1.5 GHz laptop. I had the system for a total of two months and the system started to freeze up. Being a college student in my senior year, I need my computer at all times. So I called Gainsaver right away in a panic and the most friendly customer service rep (forgot her name) really took the time to walk me through the return process. I sent the system back and right away I got a call back from a sales rep and I got another system. The new system was in excellent condition and I have had no problems with it since. I really enjoyed my experience with Gainsaver.:)

Moderator Note: This a shill from Gainsaver.

Can I? Can I please? Fine. I won't. But I want to!

Ah to hell with it. I'm going to anway..

That being said, (no offense) I expect that there will be a post later about how great GainSavers was and I got my X on time and it was exactly as I ordered and they made restitution blah blah.

Don't buy from Gain Saver!

I wish I had looked them up more before I bought an iBook G3 from them back in March for my wife. I worked great for three months, and than the AirPort stopped working. I returned it for repair (we paid for the extended warranty) and then they gave us a store credit. OK, I thouht maybe they couldn't fix it. So we bought a slightly more expensive iBook G4. They try to pressure you into paying for them to do a hardware check for you.. which you have to pay for. I declined (as with the last machine... why wouldn't they check stuff before putting online for sale? The answer is they don't!)

A few days went by as they said they were getting it ready to ship, and we got an email from them saying there was a problem and we got a store credit.

So we spent a little more and got a 14" 1Ghz iBook G4. They had it listed as "Certified Pre-owned". It came quickly. It looked very nice and seemed to work well.. then I noticed iPhoto was not installed. (It had Tiger on it). So I got my Tiger disks out and wiped the drive and did a clean install... Then I connected it via Firewire to get my wife's accound from our G4 tower. That locked up three minutes to finish, and the harddrive started clicking.

That was it.. the drive was bad. Nothing would fix it. I contemplated repairing it myself, given their already poor track record at repairs. But we sent it back. I told them I wanted it repaired. A week later we got a store credit for 618.00.

We decided not to buy another machine from them.

I asked for a refund. We ended up getting a refund for 366.40! I called and spoke to Leann. She said it was minus a 20% restocking fee! I told her that's not 20% of $618, and she got VERY rude and said it was also minus shipping ($24) and insurance, which I didn't take out. That's still too much. ($123.60 + $24 = $147).

I explained that I didn't return the iBook for refund, I returned it for repair. They decided to not send it back to me. She said if called back again she would cancle my refund! Then she put me on hold and came back 5 minutes later and said as nice as can be "what else can we get for you?"

These people are crooks. After this I Googled them and found many similar stories and all from Mac users! Seems the PC buyers love them!

Gainsaver.com has been HORRIBLE for me. I paid w/ a cashiers check and they took almost 2 weeks to process it, it is like paying in CASH ..what was the holdup. Finally I called b/c I needed it to leave town with so I could work while away awaiting an adoption. They shipped it 2 days LATER than they promised, shipped it GROUND, tossed in a plastic garbage bag in a box of peanuts, NO proper padding or care taken for such a sensitive piece of equipment (G4 Powerbook that cost me $1400), box arrived ripped open/damaged, and laptop was damaged, dented in side and defective--crashed consistently and audio speaker jack didn't work. HORRID> Now I want my $ back and they won't give it to me. Will only give store credit and say it is in their terms, BURIED in website. I had to PAY to return what THEY damaged and now they are dragging out processing of my return/exchange. I am stuck waiting for a new machine from them and they aren't even sure when they will have one in stock. My recomendation is to buy a refurb from mac.com and NOT gainsaver. It has been a nightmare.

This company is NOT reputable. Ryan Hinkle from GainSaver who posts on this forum does NOT exist at GainSaver. Called the name and extension he gives in his forum note and a totally different person answers who seemed a bit thrown that I was asking for Ryan, didn't off the bat know who he was. This company has been HORRENDOUS to do business with. I am out ALL my money I paid and 8 weeks later I am empty handed after returning a defective Mac laptop. Every time I call I get an excuse. Little do they know I am about to unload on them. My brother is a lawyer and is drafting a letter to them demanding action and I am posting them on EVERY BLOG I CAN FIND telling EVERYONE NOT TO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!! They are messing with the wrooong marketing voice!! I market for a living and am an expert at getting the word out. I am giving them until Wednesday of this week and if I have no satisfaction, I am doing all the viral marketing I can against them.

They DO NOT take care of their clients, get them by the b*lls, and tell them constant UNTRUTHS!!!!!!!
I want to find a way to let their eBay potential clients know as well that this company is BAD BAD NEWS.

HAHA Great, Here is another of the many

Just another place to file my complaint about these asses!

Sent back a 650$ paper weight, that didnt even work. Why should I need to pay a re-stocking fee if it doesnt even work!

When I called for the 10,000th time they told me I needed a letter from my lawyer to state my claims. As I read your forum no one had mentioned that yet. Crappy thing for them is that I DID CALL MY LAWYER to send them a letter. I still wont see my 146.38 back.

However, I am actually in the process of getting a class action suit against these rip off artists. I have contacted the Nevada State Attorney Generals office and the California state Attorney Generals office. I have been making BBB compaints as much as I can. If they had a grading lower then F they would have it

I have a vendetta now. They crossed the line. I have read hundreds of these postings. (after I bought the paperweight) Its too much, the way everything is now with the economy.

Oh yeah, better places to get used mac's (however I have never bought from them) macofalltrades.com, smalldog.com But the prices do not seem too good to be true. Many University stores also sell them at "realistic prices"

I just got an email from a guy saying he thinks he has lost $15,000 dollars to this 'company.' But I am glad to see this page shows up as one of the top hits when you type gainsaver.com into google. Hopefully its saved a few people from getting scammed.

It just kills me how many people still fall for the "I know, it sounded too good to be true but..."

Probably many of the same people that keep these immoral "companies" in business click on the links in spam emails and therefore keep the spammers in business as well.

I have a novel idea- How about nobody respond by trying to unsubscribe (to something they have never subscribed to before), click links, open attachements to any spam emails and we would not have many or any spammers! This is the simplest way to reduce spam in our world- don't respond, don't send money orders, don't think you can invest in a great company, don't think you are going to see Brittany naked, etc.

Ok, now I am done ranting- sorry- but I really hate reading these sad stories of immoral web sites!

Hi there, newbie here
found this thread when doing a search about Gainsaver. I bought a laptop from them, got it and it was crap, I returned it and instead of getting my money back I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered a replacement. My foolishness I did not get an extended warranty (which was 1/3 of the cost of the computer) and the hard drive died within 6 weeks. They won't do anything about it. And they were extremely rude to me.
Two dud computers from them, I would stay away!!!!
Anything ever happen with a class action lawsuit?
thanks and good luck to all of you!:mad:

Gainsaver does not have a 3 month warranty, they have a 1 month warranty. extra warranty time is available but expensive. After 6 weeks my second computer died from you and you wouldn't refund or replace it.

to say you 'bend over backwards' for your costumers is an absolute total joke. worst service ever!!

and that's after having to pay shipping for the first computer, shipping to send it back, and then shipping for the replacement computer which was then also a dud.
it's my own fault for not getting a warranty. But even so, they sell garbage and I feel very ripped off. they do have a good ebay rating which is why I thought they would be reputable.

Hi again,
sorry to post again but I'm just so mad, especially after reading so much negative feedback. After calling them they told me they have a B rating with the BBB, and I just checked and they do! I"m not sure how this can be with so many upset costumers, not just on this site but all over the place.
also I tried to search for their store on ebay and I can't find it. are they still an ebay store?
boy I just hate seeing people get ripped off with their hard earned money.
I really would like to know if any class action or lawsuits have been filed.
ok, I'll stop now!
thanks all!!

Do Not Buy From Gainsaver

Yeah, I typed that in all caps, and I meant it. I had a horrible experience with them. If you had a crap experience with them, you should file complaints with the better business bureau. I wish I had seen this thread before I bought from them. They are cheap for a reason.

HOW TO FIGHT GAINSAVER BACK! An experiance and some answers.

Hi Guys,

Yes, I realize that I am a newbie, and will probably never use this forum again, but you folks have compiled one of the most expansive –uncensored- forums for a very real issue called Gainsaver and I want to add to it.
I actually found you guys by googling Gainsaver sucks and have an experience of my own to share. I am posting it because I have fought back through municipal, state and federal departments and the Better Business Bureau and I got my money back.

The only reason I knew how to do all of this is through working and writing for a local newspaper and talking to many of those who know the workings of the insane system. I want everyone who has ever been or will ever be swindled by the likes of Steve Harper to use this post as a cautionary tale with some information on how to get what is yours and how to get back at them. Just know this… they take advantage of people that don’t fight back…and that is how they get their money.

Did you know that they don’t keep inventory and that the don’t update it? Anytime you hit something that says “in-stock” it isn’t. The only way to know if they have something in stock is by checking the on-sale or price-drop areas?

First may I add that I would like top burn this business to the ground and I am no way a member of its disgustingly sneaky team. I also know that you guys cherish this forum and are in no way trying to disrespecting you by being here. I just know how many people read this thread and am trying to do my part for the greater good. I thank you for the chance to speak.

I finally got my job writing for a newspaper and found myself being the only one attending town meetings with no form of computer sidekick. We writing the news get paid almost next to nothing so I had to beg my grandmother for the money for my “new” Apple.

I googled “discount laptops” and our little friends Gainsaver popped up. Elated that I could get a memory boost, airport card and all my other fun goodies for this machine, I bought one. It was a iBook Notebook 12.1" 500MHz G3 - Apple Computer M7698LL/A

Yes, it was a hunk of crap, even for Gainsaver standards, but it was my first laptop and I was friggan stoked.

It got delivered on a Tuesday and I woke up at 7 a.m. to a phone call from my nana telling me it was in and I rushed over. I opened it up and looked like a frat boy did keg stands and lines on it. Honestly? The warning alarm hadn’t gone off yet. It looked like crap but it worked and I got it. That was until the computer screen started blipping, keys started popping off and the mouse was sticking. I paid $727.51.

I had to send it back and pay the shipping.

I was credited back $618 because the warranty I bought was going to be transferred to my “new” computer. I ordered a PowerBook Notebook 12.1" 1.5GHz G4 - Apple Computer M9690LL/A and was told almost two weeks later, after receiving an e-mail it was to be shipped, that the entire lot of them was defective. Julie from customer service put in an order for another one and this time it was iBook Notebook 14.1" 1.33GHz G4 - Apple Computer M9628LL/A only for a ton more money. I told her I would wait for the Powerbook to come in… and it never did. I didn’t find that out until almost a month down the road. They sent out the other computer and when I rushed over to get it, I had this gut feeling that something was going to be wrong. Boy, was I right.

I opened up the box it was wrapped in and put it on my lap. The first thing I saw was my invoice with the pretty little QC-PASSED sticker. I opened it and noticed that all of the keys were faded so that you couldn’t read them. I turned it on and was greeted by a smiling little Mac and then it flashed and there was a file folder with a question mark on it. The motherboard was fried. I started to cry. I was furious.

I called Steve Harper up and demanded a call tag be issued for this thing and it would be a cold day if he thought I was going to pay shipping. He issued the call tag and told me it would be second day air. It shipped ground. He blatantly lied to me. I told him I wanted a new computer shipped out immediately and he told me he would have one prepared for when the broken one came in. He lied to me again. When the package was delivered he told me it would take 10-11 business days to process.

But I got him. It was shipped directly to his office. The one mistake they made was when they issue you the invoice they left the actual address of the location on the box. I called FedEx and had them investigate the package and when the man delivering it began questioning the company about the package it magically appeared in the office.

I called Steve the next afternoon and informed him that it was there and that I wanted my new computer shipped the same day. I told him he promised to ship my new computer overnight at their expense. He said “I don’t know, I have to see what is in stock”.

That is when I told Steve I had been reading up on the company and that he made me nervous. He asked me why. I told him that he had been lying to me all along and promised to have my computer for me and that the BBB, eBay and a *wink* few forums were blasting him for robbing them.
Then something happened that helped enormous amounts… Steve got mad… and Paula got her tape recorder.

Steve told me that he was canceling my order because he didn’t want to do business with me anymore. I told him that was great but now he just voided any chance of having that 20% restocking fee placed and that the warranty was now voided by his company and must be returned to me immediately. He said that he understood and was going to credit the full amount I ended up spending. $1127.51.

The plot thickens.

Steve started playing games with me. He said he “thought” he was going to have accounting credit me the full amount and “wasn’t sure” about anything anymore.

That is when I informed him that I had recorded him stating his promise to me. He said he was going to call accounting and would call me back.
Steve never called back.

I then began making phone calls from Boston to Long Beach.

I called City Counsil, City Clerk and finally landed at the Business Licensing Board.

A nice woman on the phone informed me that the business I was inquiring about was called “Visionaire” and was a company dealing with software programming. They had nine employees and were owned by two siblings named Veviak and Sukant Jain. The company does not have business licensing for selling used computers.

The actual number to the establishment is (562) 216-7160 and I managed to locate their “accounting department”. I spoke with a woman named Christina answered and informed me that she was in the process of crediting back my account in the sum of $922.00 but that was only after she was told of Steve canceling my transaction for me. That and I played her the MP3 from my recorder. I got that refund. But I am still owed 202.51 for my warranty and assorted packaging issues. Christina told me that due to it being a warranty that I have to submit the request for the remainder in writing and after that she would be crediting my account.
“It is just a formality and we have to receive it in the form of a certified letter and then we can legally credit your account,” she said.

So I began typing and sent my letter off. But just to make sure that my entire sum of money gets credited I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I spoke with Thermon, a fine man, who told me that Gainsaver actually resolves all of the HUNDREDS of complaints that come into the Bureau. Currently they have a C rating, but it would be an F if they didn’t satisfy the consumers (giving back their money) according to Thermon.

Look guys, the last resort I have is to contact local news stations, radio and media. I have sent out a mass media alert to those on the list. I suggest you do the same. I am also contacting many of the “buyer beware” programs in the Boston and LA area.

I am also in the process of registering www.gainsaversucks.com and any tech help would be appreciated. Oh, and a Google Group too.

We don’t have to take this crap anymore from these con-artists and I am so furious with the idea of people busting their butts all the time only to have this guy just take their money. Did you know that they stole money from an under funded school in LA and when the woman buying the computer said that she was going to call the BBB she was told by Steve that if she did HE WOULD REFUSE HER REFUND?

Enough is enough. Take the time to fight back! Please don’t think I am so bored housewife with nothing better to do. I work 80 hours a week and I am going to bring these guys down.

Hi Guys,
Enough is enough. Take the time to fight back! Please don’t think I am so bored housewife with nothing better to do. I work 80 hours a week and I am going to bring these guys down.

I can't believe this company still exists! They have been seeing garbage for years. I truly can't imagine how they stay in business.

I ended up at MacRumors Forms trying to find a review on GainSaver. Boy did I get one. Does a safe place exists to buy an Apple for less?

Not really. Apple has very strict controls on pricing and resellers don't really get much of a deal. About the cheapest way (besides eBay, and I don't like buying electronics off of eBay) is maybe via Amazon, because there's no sales tax.

Sos

Paula,I've been through almost the same exact thing. I am beginning this week to take them to small claims court as Steve Harper taunted me to, thinking I never will. I appreciate your valuable guidance and wish I could talk to you, I'm so frustrated I am shaking as I read your post, and everyone else's. How can they get away with all their RIPPING PEOPLE OFF!?!?!?
I'm not letting them get away with it.

Gainsaver Sucks--here's a new reason why:

I bought an iMac G5 a few months ago. This month it began going into sleep mode or shutting down without warning. I took it in to an Apple authorized repair place--they tell me the power supply needs to be replaced, not that big of a deal but....

THERE ARE NO SERIAL NUMBERS ON THE MACHINE! They serial was stripped off the bottom and removed from the firmware. Why? Because according to the Apple repairman--it's in all likelihood a STOLEN MACHINE! Regardless of how it got that way, Apple has to treat it like a hot machine and won't accept the return on defective parts, so I have to pay full retail for replacement work, and in some cases, they won't touch it.

I called everyone's favorite sales manager, Steve Harper, who assures me it's not stolen. I ask "then why are the serials stripped off inside and out"--he doesn't know, doesn't care, and won't offer a replacement or refund in any form, even as I'm reporting Gainsaver to the Long Beach police for selling stolen merchandise.

He refers me to their customer support to file a complaint. They tell me there's nothing I can do, but if I call Apple with my SERIAL number, maybe they can help me...

Do NOT buy from these guys--they sold me a STOLEN machine!

Well, technically it may not be a stolen machine. It's possible that it's the same P.O.S. they sold to countless folks before you, all whom have returned it (less the exorbinant restocking fee). Removing any SN identification would make it harder to track.

Ultimately, I cannot believe that GainSaver is still in business.

Gainsaver - IT's A SCAM - DO NOT BUY FROM THEM

This is the worst company I've ever did business with. I order a CPU on Sept. 20th 2007. I give all proper and correct info for delivery and the sales rep put down the wrong address. Fed Ex returned the CPU because the address was incorrect. I repeated the correct address to the rep and it was still sent to the wrong address. The unit was returned to Gainsaver and was supposed to be return to me. After the unit was received at Gainsaver i contact the sales manager to help me get the unit sent back out to me. I was told that they would return my money never offering to return the unit. I asked why won't you return the unit. They responded "We sold the unit". I asked could the money be return in a timely fashion and was told my money would be return in a couple of days. That was on OCt. 4th. After another convo with Gainsaver I was told you will have your money by the 9th. Here it is the 10th of Oct. and i still dont have the unit or my money. The staff is very rude and unprofessional. I would question anybody thinking of using Gainsaver.com. I spoke with Apple and they aren't getting the unit on their site from a authorized Apple reseller. The sales manager and ataff are really the worst. Please don't waste sending your mney to this company. I don't believe they have any of the Apple Computer listed on their site. I'm going to have to file a civil suit to get my money.

I was trying to find out where gainsaver was located so I could figure about how long It would take something to arrive, and to my surprise 3rd link down in my google search was this thread and looking further to here

Thanks for being here guys, OH and gainsaver you guys just lost a $300 sale 38 complaints In 3 years IS NOT a good track record, word of mouth Is now global something to keep In mind when your staff keeps pissing off customers.

Hello,

I work for Gainsaver.com and I have recently been alerted to the postings at this website. We ship HUNDREDS of items a day and have many happy customers. As far as Heb1228 is concerned, he said himself his credit cards charge was "pending" for a week and a half and then disappeared. His card was NEVER charged. Heb1228 ordered a used system that failed burn-in and diagnostic testing, of which, he was never charged for. We were up-front and honest with him all along regarding his order. For Heb1228 to jump the gun and slander our company, implying that we will sell his card info without any backing or proof, is absurd. Heb1228 might want to rethink his makeshift slanderous website.

We ship to many happy customers every day. We have nothing to hide, and we are easily contacted at the phone number posted on our website. 877-657-1464. When dealing with used equipment we are bound to have some items that are shipped back to us. That is why we have 3 month warranties. When items are returned we credit the customers cards back within 24-48 hours.

We try as hard as we can to make everyone happy. But some customers, no matter how hard you try, are impossible to please. But we will always bend over backwards in an attempt to do so.

Hey Ryan, glad to see that a vendor is active in the on-line Mac community. I'm looking over your site now for some stuff for my kids. The G5 iMacs look like good deals.

Complaints? It's not the complaints that should be the criteria, but how the complaints are settled.

Out of the 38 complaints submitted to BBB, 31 were settled with satisfaction.

7 complaints were not settled with satisfaction, but the complaints were answered.

They have Zero complaints that they did not respond to. (Info taken from website sambob posted)

If they do indeed ship hundreds of items a day, let's take a look: Assuming 240 working days a year, and 100 items per day - that's 72,000 shipments in 3 years. They have 7 non-satisfactory complaints. Thats what? A 99.99% customer satisfaction rate.

That sounds pretty darn impressive. If I were them I would put this in a big banner on the website, link to the BBB, and show the numbers about a 99.99% Customer Satisfaction rate!

edit: I have no affiliation with this company and indeed had never heard of them until I saw this thread.

Don't be a fool and fall for whatever 'ratings' they have on their site. Use your common sense and see what other's experiences have been.
