We ship litteraly hundreds of orders a day......................We then tried to find another unit but could not.

Wow, you must have ordered something really rare!

Give me a break. Maybe less time posting on Macrumors, more time running your company correctly?

Has anyone called him up yet? Probably someone in India.

But Ryan... If you want to Heb1228 to be happy and everyone else on this forum that your "company" is somewhat legitimate, how about you send him the product he ordered before not ask for any payment information until he has the computer and is satisified with it. You say you ship out hundreds a day so shipping one out on good faith can't hurt too much.

Of course, I don't expect you to do this, but no one on macrumors is going to trust gainsaver no matter how many good things you say about it.

Gainsaver Experience ended with Refund

I have also delt with Gainsaver.com

I am also a Newbie to this site, and NO I do not work for GAINSAVER or any associated companies.

I tried to order a G4 eMAC 1.25Ghz with 512mb ram, 80Gb with superdrive. It was a great deal at ~$275. After many attempts to contact them by phone (sales people leave early) and through their online message system I did get to speak with a person who explained my computer "failed" testing and asked if I would accept a 1Ghz processor and have the computer shipped at a reduced fee. I accepted this offer.

When I received the invoice, the computer morphed into a 800Mhz, 256mb,
40Gb with combo drive eMAC. Not exactly what I ordered. Their website did say the order may be changed based on product availability (on closer review) this should be warning number one.

I called immediately about the invoice, but they were not able to come to the phone. I sent several messages and finally got a reply stating it was a mistake, and offered me an additional $50 discount. I told them I would rather refuse the shippment for a refund. They agreed and promptly posted a credit on my card. Overall the entire experience was frustrating and took a little over 3 weeks to come to a final conclusion. I think it is interesting that their website is no longer active at the time of my post. Fraud??? I don't really know but personally, I would not do business with this company again.

Sorry for the unintended mis-information, I checked again using a different browser window and sure enough the are still selling. They still have similar deals if you feel lucky and have some time (and money) to burn.

Too true.. I think "grabbagging" a computer is not for me.

Gainsaver sucks

I Just Bought a ibook G4 from those nuts for about 600$ i got it and there is nothing in the box but the computer and the recharge cable and wrapped in foam. Here's the grand finale the computer was completely broken the hard drive was blown iam sending it back not to get a new computer but to get my money back. Also the keypad was coming off it wasnt totally on. I really dont think they check anything before it is shipped.

Stay Away From Gainsaver.com

Terrible! See their other reviews online on other sites. My Salesman Steve Harper was soooooo nice while I was asking questions and placing my order, but when I called today with a question, he was short and clicked the phone without saying goodbye. The other GenXr that answered the phone was snotty also. Not good.
You might find the products a little cheaper here, but in the long run, spend the extra few dollars and shop somewhere else. I was told that they had the camera in stock and they actually ship from the Manufacturer, which explains the time delay.
I WILL NOT SHOP HERE AGAIN. TOO MANY OTHER CHOICES AND BETTER ATTITUDES ELSEWHERE.

gainsaver Blows!

Ok, here's my shopping experience with these guys. Over three weeks ago we ordered a used ibook online from them, it was advertised as "available". Soon after we got emails stating that our order had been received and that our ibook would be shipped in 2-3 day. A week later we called to check on our order and were told that our computer was being checked by technicians and would be shipped out in five days to a week (you know, the one that was going to be shipped out in 2-3 days). After another week we call to check on the status of our order and are told that the computer has been "backordered" (the one originally advertised as "available"). More than a week after that while I'm away on business my wife gets an email stating that there is a "problem with our order" and to contact gainsaver right away. She calls them and is told that the computer we want is no longer "available" and would we like to change the order and get another computer instead (wow, the nerve of these guys). She tells them no, we wanted the "available" computer we ordered over 3 weeks ago and to cancell the order. The representative seems perplexed at this and ask "why not just get a different one instead?". She replies that she doesn't trust them after all this hassle. The next day she gets a phone call from gainsaver again saying there is a "problem with your order", that your computer is no longer available and would we want to blah blah blah blah (wow, deja vu!). She replies no and that we will be taking our business elsewhere thank you very much.
I will never do business (or try to do business I should say) with these guys again. It seems from reading other peoples reviews that I'm not the only one with this kind of experience.

who sells good used Macs

So does anyone have a suggestion of a good used Mac sales on line?
kg

Gainsaver = Fraud, do not buy from them!

I was shopping around on the web tonight and came across Gainsaver. They are a reseller of used Mac products. I was looking for prices on used ibooks. I didn't see anything that I liked so I proceed to the powerbook page. I found a very good deal on a 15.2" Tibook 667 Mhz. I knew there was a mistake and tried to place and order for the machine with a price of $0.00. I went though all the steps in the process to complete a purchase of the Ti-book.

The order went through just fine and was going through processing. An hour after my order was placed I received and email canceling the sale with no reasons and do not reply title. I called them to find out what the issue was. The sales woman Leanne started yelling at me. Telling me that they can not sell a machine for that price. She continued stating that they would not sell me that machine for that price. I placed another call to talk to a different customer service rep to just tell them how displeased I was and she answered the phone again and they she changed her story that they do not have that machine in stock. The advertising of items for sale while not in stock is not an advised practice.

Links below are screen shots of the website with wrong priced and not stocked items.

sorry for the long post, but I just feel that companies should honor their advertised prices or try to work with the customer when their website says satisfaction guaranteed.

That's pretty standard for GainSaver...a Google search, or even a MacRumors search, would have revealed several other people with similar experiences. GainSaver takes orders for machines they don't have in stock and generally seem uninterested in providing even decent customer service. I'm not surprised in any way at your experience.

It seems important to link back to this thread and this thread in this instance.

Gainsaver has a pretty poor reputation on MR, and this thread, as well as the two above, are good reasons why.

Gainsaver Bad!

I was another shopper that heard about Gainsaver.com from a friend that had a decent experience, his monitor stopped working, but he is now dealing with Apple directly as it was insured.

My experience has not been so well received. On Dec 9th, I ordered an iBook G3 (with an Airport card for $77) and a day later, receive a call that it had "failed testing" and that particular iBook was the "last in stock." They had one that had more RAM but needed to charge me $15.00 more. I agreed and received the laptop two weeks later.

Upon inspection of the laptop it was obvious that it had not been cleaned or even wiped down. The rubber stops that space the monitor from the keyboard when closed were missing. The laptop smelled horrible of, what seemed to resemble, body odor. There was a broken key cover between F5 & the F6 keys. There was also no airport called installed!

I called to voice my concern, "800-844-4051 or 562-216-7180 M-F 7AM-6PM Pacific Standard Time" and received voice mail... that was full and therefore could not leave a message. Eventually, thru my email complaint, I received a call From Steve Harper. He "checked the paperwork" and saw the no one had installed the AirPort card & asked me to ship it back and they would rectify.

I still have the computer because they voided contact with me over the holidays (understandable, I guess), and didn't give me their FedEx account number....( after all, I'm not paying to ship it their mistake back to them).

I am currently waiting for a return call from Steve to discuss these matters. If I ship this thing back to them... what guarantee do I have that they will send me anything back at all?

If I confront them now with this information that I have, I may not get anything out of them. I will ask them to send me a replacement computer and then I will gladly return to them the bad computer. If they baulk... I will ask them to send me an AirPort card... we'll see if I get that.

I certainly feel that I cannot trust Gainsaver.com.

We'll see... I will report later.

i've watched this thread for a while.

i won't say whether heb or gainsaver is correct or wrong b/c it's like beating a dead horse.

but i will say this....right or wrong, i'm glad this thread happened b/c anyone who works for a company will realize they need to provide optimal service at all times b/c if not, the internet speaks loudly. i'm not saying it was gainsavers fault, but i mean to say that all companies should provide the very best service so there is little room for errors as possible.

peace out,
keebler

That sucks, hope it works out.

That being said, (no offense) I expect that there will be a post later about how great GainSavers was and I got my X on time and it was exactly as I ordered and they made restitution blah blah.

Anything new on Gainsaver?

This is my first post. I wish I had read them before I bought. I just returned a Powerbook for replacement, before end of 30 day warranty due to cd drive problems, but was told after several phone calls, that they did not have another one. Told me they would issue credit, and I made sure they would include postage of $27 since I had already paid to send it back. When I checked my statement, they only credited me $480 of $627, which is 20% less than purchase price of $600. I called Steve Harper demanding to get this resolved, but no return call yet. Just curious before I call Amex to see if I can get any help since I used Amex card to pay original order. Anyone have any recent experience with them?

Gainsaver, save what?

I have been searching the web to post my wonderful experience with GainSaver. I purchased a 20" Imac G5 from the company on 30 Nov 06, in hopes of receiving the gift for a Christmas present for my wife. I got an email stating my order had been received and was being processed. No problem. I sent an email to them on 7 Dec asking the status of my order as it still said processing on the web site. I promptly got a response on 8 Dec stating "We are sending your computer US mail." I thought ok nothing about when but it should be on it's way. My next email was on 15 Dec saying my item could be tracked and the tracking numbers were available on the website. I went to the website and all I could find was that my order was not paid in full but the invoice was closed out. 16 Dec I received an email stating my invoice number has been changed and the computer has been shipped out. I checked again and my invoice was still not paid but it was still closed out. I sent an email asking if there was a problem with my credit card since my order was not paid for yet. I checked the website on 18 Dec and my order was paid in full and still closed out. I sent two more emails asking if I the item had been shipped. No reply except the standard we got your email and should reply in 24-48 hours. Well 17 Jan rolls around and my package arrived. I must state here that I am a military member stationed in Europe and usually packages take 3-4 weeks to arrive from the US. That is why I originally placed the order back in Nov. I fired up the used G5 and it seemed to work well. Except for the blemish on the screen. I tried to clean it but the blemish turns out to be a small crack in the screen. Strike one. Next a dead pixel in the bottom center of screen. Strike two. And the last issue, the ethernet port is dead. Strike three. The prices advertised on this website seem to good to be true. You make the call, after all they have an eBay store that has over a 1000 positive postings. I purchased my item directly from the store else I would have left negative feedback on eBay. Maybe you will have better luck with them. I didn't.

GainSaver-Sucks

Here is the fun message that I sent over to our friends at GainSaver today. enjoy!

To whom it may concern:

I am still waiting on my 20% restocking fee refund of $143.80 that was promised by Steve Harper at 800-844-4051 x306 on 03/13/2007. The product that I had purchased (Invoice-7789, 900MHz iBook G3) had a faulty logic board and simply did not work. I will not be charged a restocking fee for something that will not be restocked.

I was willing to accept store credit and select alternative items from the Gainsaver website on 03/02/2007. A week later on 03/09/2007 I was informed that the MacBook Pro AppleCare plan that I had selected (though is still currently listed in stock and for sale on gainsaver.com as it was as at the time of my order) was not available anymore. On 03/12/2007 I was credited a partial refund of $394.90 though Julie (at x307) had confirmed that the entire refund was approved and would post in 2-3 business days. On 03/13/2007 my wife contacted Mr. Harper and was conveniently disconnected from the conversation twice, then could only reach his voicemail for the remainder of the day. Again willing to accept store credit I called Mr. Harper near the close of business on 03/13/2007 and was assured that he would take care of the remaining refund, that I didn’t need to bother with store credit, that I would see an email notification that the process was complete. It has now been 10 days and the email notice has never been sent, the refund has still not posted to my credit card and I am concerned that my issue has been written off.

I am not the kind of guy that sends back an overcooked steak at a restaurant, but we are talking about over $140.00. If I do not receive a response to this message regarding the completion of my refund by the close of business TODAY (03/23/2007) I will be filing my complaints online with The Consumerist, the BBB, the CSAG (California State Attorney Generals Office), the Department of Corporations, as well as eBay discussion boards. I am very familiar with the Internet and will not be shy when filing my complaints, assuring that other potential customers are not taken advantage of. The response time provided by your customer service is unacceptable and will not be tolerated any further.

Original purchase via credit: $538.70
Amount of refund: $394.90

Thank you... Vince
