Same here. I can't wait!

Looking at your signature you've been changing a lot! :p

Mine is like:

iPhone 4 > iPhone 4S > Galaxy Nexus (2 weeks) > iPhone 4S > Galaxy S3 > next Nexus.

Why are you switching from the S3? I just want a vanilla experience.

Oh and I was very tempted to either buy or swap my S3 for an HTC One X the other day.

Is there a reason why they wouldn't include it? I've seen people say that because it's a developer phone that they don't include the best hardware in it but a lot if not most android phones coming out now have LTE so it's not exactly bleeding edge technology.

You would think LTE is a given, and they'd be like the iPhone 5. (Every phone ships supporting LTE, HSPA+, and HSPA.. so if your area/network doesn't have LTE it just doesn't use it.)

But with the current Galaxy Nexus, the $350 on the Play Store is only HSPA/HSPA+. The one at Verizon is LTE, but Verizon charges way more than Google for it without a contract. Which some people claim "HSPA+ is nearly as good". On my HSPA+ iPhone 4S I averaged maybe 4mbp/s down and 1.5mbp/s up. That was on AT&T's network.

On my Galaxy S3 with Verizon's LTE I took this speed test 2 days ago.

Just discovered this section of Macrumors...

Mind = blown...

Using the Gnex now. I actually only got it recently (right around the time that apple tried to ban it hehe)

I think what google needs to do next is really decide do they want to sell a smartphone. Because their position with the nexus (besides the nexus 7) has always been a bit ambiguos. They need to market this phone! The OEMs aren't going to do it and neither are the carriers (Verizon and Samsung come to mind with this last nexus). I think it is cute that Google thinks since they own the web just using web ads will be ok. It isn't. No one (not normal consumers anyway) pay attention to web ads. I literally don't see them anymore. It's like background noise that you are trained to filter out.

What google needs is real marketing. TV spots. endorsements. etc. And please direct people to google play (rather than carriers). I think it will help their whole ecosystem.

Maybe if they take the time and the resources to properly market and sell their flagship device OEMs will try harder to make a good device instead of what samsung has done the last two times (make something a half-step up from what they currently sell and then focus on their own flagship)

Apple has the guts to tell their partners exactly how things are going to be and it pays off. Google needs to grow a pair \rant

I agree with this, I love Android but its annoying that for example, the GNex on Verizon STILL doesn't have Jelly Bean.. It's annoying Google Wallet is blocked on most phones because the carriers don't want to allow it, etc etc.

The GN on Verizon is a travesty. Really, Google should be embarrassed.

This is why I mentioned in an early post, now that Jelly Bean is good enough for the general masses, they need to get two things right with the Nexus 2012:

Hardware and the Launch.

-It's time they start using premium materials and really elevate the build quality, since it seems this is a point of contention for many people. Plus, it would undoubtedly draw more attention.

-And secondly, they have to handle the launch much better. I'm talking fully unlocked, carrier free, on the Google Play store from day one, offer multiple storage sizes (16g & 32g at the least), and maybe even color versions (a full body white, not that lame back-white). And if they can price it competitively -- something in the ~$500 range -- that would only help attract more customers.

I think Saturn is on the money too that Google should market the Nexus better.

They did a good job with the Nexus 7, so that gives me hope.

Oh, I'm not switching from the S3...lol. As you can see, I've got the 4S, S3, and GNex right now, so I just like to switch it up a lot. And my reasoning for having the Nexus device is the same as yours, the vanilla Android experience. That, and the fact that you darn near can't brick the GNex. My Nexus is my "experimental" device...it's what I root and install tons of custom ROMs on so I can see what's out there and keep up with the development community. My S3, by contrast, isn't rooted. Part of that is that the S3 does pretty much everything I want it to do out of the box, so I don't feel the need to root it.

FYI, I've also had 2 HOX's and, IMO, the S3 is a better all-around phone. Better speaker, easier to root (I've rooted the S3 but returned to unrooted now), and better development community. The HOX reminds me a lot of the iPhone in how "locked down" it is. Sure, you can root it and unlock the bootloader, but there's a much higher chance of "bricking" it over the S3. I will say this, though...there's not a better screen on a phone out right now. That screen on the HOX is gorgeous!

I couldn't agree with this post more. I know Google doesn't want to take away from the OEMs too much with their Nexus devices, but man, vanilla Android is SO GOOD that you really feel the OS needs hardware to match. If they'd just put a better speaker and better camera in the GNex, I think it would easily be one of the top 3 phones out there.

The GN on Verizon is a travesty. Really, Google should be embarrassed.

This. This post is so full of win. I'm with you that the Nexus 7 launch gives me hope that Google will see they can market their own phone and do it in the right way. I couldn't agree more with the second post, either. I'm hoping they put it on Google Play from day one at a competitive price ($500 would be the perfect price point...high enough to be premium but low enough to be affordable).

And I'm with you on the Verizon and Sprint GNex's being a travesty. I know those owners don't like to hear it, but there's a reason why GSM GNex owners call that version the "faux" GNex. One thing I do like is that they've already shown that they can put LTE in a phone that's pretty much the same size as the GSM GNex with the official extended battery and replacement battery door (I've got that on my GNex). Surely the next Nexus phone will have LTE, a better (not as dark) screen, and maybe a couple of storage size options. We can all hope!

Wow. Some of those software features are pretty neat, especially "Quick Memo" that lets you take a note over the screen. Dual Screen Dual Play is also nuts; mirroring a video while using your phone to do another task. Really impressive. Cheese-Shutter is also great, something I'm surprised Apple didn't come up with with Siri.

Once again, it just feels like the competition is putting the smart in smartphone, akin to some of Samsung's TouchWiz features.

Props to LG. They're trying.

Though I'm not thrilled by the boxy look, it turns out the LG Optimus G does not have a removable battery back plate.

First premium-feeling Nexus?

I would actually prefer if there was a removable back plate. I always carry a fully charged extra battery with me so I don't have to worry about battery life on my S3.

Wow, there's quite a lot going on there. I didn't expect to be impressed either but I have to admit I was. Here's another good video, you can see amongst other things the native desktop landscape mode which I really dig:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozTVvDEuQ4A

In general I found this Android skin to be much less offensive than Sense or TouchWiz. Doesn't beat vanilla of course but still pretty tight. My only gripe is the outer design. Ok, it's hard to get very far from a plain rectangle with a phone, but this one is just a tad too plain for me.

Man, if Google could fit this level of capability and ingenuity into a shell that more resembled that of the GNex, I would be completely sold.

God. I want an S4 phone so bad, especially one with 2GB RAM. All that power with all that power efficiency. I think this might be the perfect hardware. The only thing it is missing is removable storage.

If this was a Nexus with HTC/Nokia design, I couldn't get the money out of my wallet fast enough.

I think the Nexus line is ready for a "unibody"-like device. I can certainly see why this may anger those who enjoy replacing batteries, so I feel you.

But it's time to elevate the Nexus brand, me thinks.

Yeah, this is really the only near-deal breaker of the GNex for me. So plasticky. If they really wanna take up the fight with Apple, they need to improve in this area.

Meanwhile I really hope they stay with the same design for the front for the next one. Seen from the front, the GNex is pretty much the prettiest phone I've ever seen. The shape is just so harmonious.

That, and offer a phablet size Nexus along with it.

The first phone I went to look at at my carrier for Android, was the Gnex and I have to admit I really really liked the clarity of screen, and size etc compared to my iP4. I hate physical button for home. I did get the S3. I am actually hoping that the new Gnex won't tempt me. Not made of money :D I would have to buy it outright as I am on carrier subsidy for my S3.:)

I do agree that a unibody looks much better. I almost got a One X just for it's looks and build quality! :p

Agreed the physical home button is annoying for me on my S3 and I had a GNex in the past. I tried using the on screen buttons on Paranoid Android ROM but they're too close to the other things on the bottom of the screen so I keep hitting them by mistake. I don't remember them being as close on the GNex. I'm going to get the next Nexus full price too :p

Exactly this. Android reached a new level with Jelly Bean - now the Nexus phones need to match that same level in build quality.

Something like hardware capabilities & screen/build quality from LG Optimus G + design & sweet, sweet Android vanilla-ness from GNex...man, I would ask that thing to marry me.

Better start planning that bank robbery right now :D

Yip I was too very surprised from LG. I couldn't believe some of the features their offering, mirroring a HD video while multitasking....jaw dropping feature from a phone.

But have you guys seen Sonys version of android? They too offer some innovative features too. Makes me feel very humble cause I was under the impression that there isn't much out there that would wow me now...if there was apple would do it first. But it isn't the case.

Edit: @onthecouch many features you saw from LG are actually Samsung features (i'm pretty sure)

Regarding rumors that there could be a Optimus Nexus, there are further rumors that state a Xperia Nexus and another Galaxy Nexus.

That LG looks nice. Some great features in there. Does a cell phone camera really need to go beyond 8mp?

Check out Sonys UX too...impressive stuff going on there as well. Apparently LG got criticized for their camera quality before so I guess they're trying to make a come back. They have 5 lenses but some pictures are still not too good from what i've seen.

There's no word on their plans, but now that they're set up their Play Store and they've done it with the GN and, more importantly, with the Nexus 7, I'd say there's a good chance of that happening again.

As long as there are no carrier-exclusives like the GN & Verizon. That was... ugh.

And for the love of God, I hope they offer a full white Nexus. Really loath the "half" white Galaxy Nexus. Why in the world do they do that?

Seems the GS2 and GS3 can offer front white plates, why not the GN?
