It feels like it, because it is.

You press the home button to wake, it simultaneously reads your fingerprint and unlocks.

I suppose internally, the phone is processing two steps, but the user only really does one.

Except that bent phone doesn't just "happen".....

It's 2 steps in my opinion. One step to press the home button, a 2nd step to keep your finger on the home button. Keeping your finger on the button still takes some time, even if its only a second or so. Yes we are splitting hairs here, but it's still an additional "step" over pressing the home button to turn it on.

It's barely any additional time.

I push the home button and as soon as the screen flickers on I let go. That's enough time for it to register my print and unlock. The unlock happens after my finger has left the button.

It's one action. Unless you really quickly press the home button, you don't even have to be conscious of it the sensor reads it so fast.

But ultimately, you're correct - we're splitting hairs.

Touch ID really does feel like one step. It's fast. It reads your print and unlocks or authorizes with lighting speed. You don't need to press the button or wait. The time it takes is almost instantaneous. That's one thing Apple has done right.

I will probably use Samsung's version on the Note 4 for other things, like unlocking a folder, gallery, or app. But I doubt I will use it for unlocking my home screen, as it won't be as quick as on the iPhone.

Apparently they have them on display at the Stratford Westfield samsung store. Think I'll go and take a look at the weekend.

With the $200 from BB and another $200 from AT&T on trade-ins, would you recommend I cancel my AT&T store order and go with Best Buy? I have an iPhone 4S and a Moto X for trade. With the Moto X getting about $180 on eBay and the 4S getting about the same, seems like the better deal to trade in.

Just don't want to screw up my pre-order and not get it on launch!

FWIW, I'm going with AT&T Next to upgrade (12 mth plan)

Nevermind! Just got an email from AT&T saying that my order is Ready to Ship. Though it also says "Due to the high demand, your device/accessory is not yet available for shipment." But, a pre-10/19 ship date sounds very promising....

I did not preorder it today after spending an hour demoing. But I know I will cave maybe as soon as tomorrow. The $200 trade ices the cake. They probably could not get $10 for the one I want to dump.

Had a try with the Note 4 today as well as both new iPhones which have made it here in good numbers on the grey market.

As a current 5s owner and an early first iPhone adopter, as well as a OPO owner, I went away with a clear outcome: I wanted the Note 4.

It's so far above my last Note 2 in all aspects. Premium feel, vibrant display, smooth no matter what I opened, slim bezels/good screen to body ratio, and great S Pen for quick notes. Oh, and there's a dual SIM version available here (Shanghai), too.

I liked the screen size of the 6 and 6 Plus but am not a fan of the design at all. The strips on the back are plain ugly, as are the big bezels and protruding camera - I'd have to case this which kills the thin aspect.

iOS is great but the hardware has so many compromises and hasn't iterated as well as rivals have. I saw a Huawei Ascend Mate 7 which was nicer looking and more about the screen than the bulky iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

I really hope Ive gets to work on the length and width rather than depth. Unlikely given how long historically Apple keep the same design for years.

Anyway, the Note 4 is a really great option and, if I ditch my OPO, this is what I'd get.

I suspect that the poo analogy wasn't meant to be literally correct, but rather just meant to show that your "extreme numbers" comment was a little bit silly and out of place.

What is silly and out of place is the response to my original post.
One of the things that I wrote was that gmail won't work in Chrome (for me). I was basically told I was lying.
So here is the video: http://tinyurl.com/n3q9w3q

I was told it is a non-existant issue. I linked to forum posts going back to 2009 about the issue. I was told that the links were not relevant.

I think I would encounter more open minds on an Android forum.

Managed to play with one in the Samsung store in London today.

Almost perfect, I even typed with one hand (lol).

The back casing just sucks though. My first thought was that I'd want a case, which would render the aluminium frame moot :/

Why does it suck?

The material was quite hard and didn't have any softness or "give" which felt a little jarring next to the frame. It felt...dare I say cheap?

I'm wondering if it's just me though, no sites seem to have had the same issue

Its definitely not as nice as the black note 3. I'm hoping the black n4 has a little bit of a rubberized feel like the n3.
