Getting a little bored with my N5, might just have to root to bring back some excitement.

Is it a difficult process?
I successfully rooted my Note 4 and Note Edge last year on the first try. They were the first Android phones I ever rooted. Just follow the instructions step by step as they are written out. They show pictures as the software you use on the computer should look before you begin each step. Take your time and make sure you are doing each step correctly.

I have a Surface Pro 3 that I use for such things. You can do it on a Mac too if you run a virtual copy of Windows or run Windows through Bootcamp.

Hope you don't use Samsung pay
And the warranty remaining on the phone will be voided. There are examples if Samsung refusing repairs on rooted phones. I've had my Note 5 since Thursday. Been waiting a few days before I root to make sure everything on the phone works perfectly.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna hold off. Anyway, most likely won't keep the phone for much longer; give or take a few more months.

Just rooted my Note 5. One of the easiest processes I have ever done. It's just one step to upload a new kernel to the phone and the go to the play store and install Super SU. I then installed FDroid so that I could block ads with Adaway.

Samsung Pay started annoying me every few minutes to get started with it so I disabled it.

Do you happen to have a guide to do this. I am looking to install marshmallow as well.

Of course one you root you won't be able to install Ota updates.

Yes, I know I can't install updates OTA. When I rooted my Note 4 and Note Edge, to upgrade, I used Samsung Kies and then re-rooted.

I rooted my Note 5 with this guide:

http://galaxynote5root.com

As long as you have Kies installed on your computer, you shouldn't need to worry about the USB drivers as they will be installed when you install Kies. Just download the kernal for the model phone you have, I have T-Mobile and the rest of the steps are super easy.

And you need Windows.

You'll have to talk to someone more experienced then I am. On my Note 4 and Note Edge, I originally upgraded to 5.0.1 and didn't like it so I downgraded back to 4.4.4 where I am still on that version today on those phones. I never worried about backing up as it wasn't that important to me due to the SD card.

I know there are ways to backup the Note 5, I just don't know what they are.

Your device needs to be either a T-mobile variant or international. Root doesn't work with AT&T, Verizon, or sprint variants.
Mine is t-mobile thanks for the heads up.

I hear you going back to the pure android, I also want a new phone as I had the note 4 and now the note 5 just sort of tired of looking at the same thing.

It's just that they got the screen and camera game on lock and it's going to be hard for me to downgrade any of those features

I started using Google Messenger recently, and one thing I noticed, is that when the phone is off to the side, and I get a new text message, the screen doesn't pop on, like it did with stock Messages and Textra.

Is there some Settings somewhere I need to enable that ?

Was a bit bored over the weekend and I decided to strip my back cover and make it clear. I'll probably paint it a nice stealth black. It's so nice to get rid of the Samsung logo. You can also see those metal round disks allow me to use a magnetic fast wireless charger in my car, I just plop it on and it sticks and charges.

NICE saw a YT video on that. But having to heat it up so much the glue comes loose from the back scared me away!

Curious, do you have phone on mute or vibrate?

I ask cause maybe by setting the device to vibrate or silent disables the screen from turning-on so there won't be distractions?

I used very little heat, a heat gun set on lowest for 3-5 seconds then peel about an inch, another couple seconds heat and peel. It all came up in almost one piece and took all of 5 minutes. Taking the back off is much harder though.

Now I'm debating leaving it clear, it looks very nice. I would replace the tape with transparent 2 sided tape, take the identification sticker off and paint my metal discs black.

Round 2. Looks pretty darn ugly, lol. I'm just playing with it a bit until the weekend when I can decide what I want to do. Still has the white double sided tape and my mounting discs making it look ugly.

My Note 5 did something weird today. Yesterday I rooted it and had to disable Samsung Pay because it kept promoting me to set it up every few minutes. Today, the phone did kind of a respring thing like iPhones do and when it came back up, Samsung Pay was enabled and started prompting me to set it up again. I had to disable it again.

That is weird. I wonder if there is a service you can disable to stop it from prompting you?
