Here is the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 in Hand
http://www.droid-life.com/2015/08/04/samsung-galaxy-note-5-pictures/

In terms of specs, we are being told that the phone has 4GB RAM, the same processor as the S6, no SD slot, 32/64/128GB storage options, and a 3000mAh non-removable battery.

This phone was just sort of on my radar before, was waiting to see if the rumored 4,100mAh battery were true or not. And LOL of course not, instead they are going with the super model wafer ultra thin phone design, and only sticking in a small 3,000mAh battery

The Note series used to be known for beastly battery life. The Note 2 at the time had one of the largest batteries available back then, and that phone got insane battery life. My Note 2 was giving me 7h to 8h Screen On time

But do the quick math on this rumored Note 5, running very similar hardware to the S6, with a slightly larger 3,000mAh battery, than the S6's. I view the S6 as ****** battery life, I don't care what people say, I think the best it gets is like 4h to 4.5h on the best tweaked setup, most say worse than that.

IMO 3,000mAh battery in a phablet with a 2k screen is useless, if your a power user, or like your phone to last from 6:00am to 10:00pm with heavy nonstop workday use. The old Note 2 could do that easily, I highly doubt this Note 5 can.

I pretty much called all these specs months ago despite 'many' protestations ;)

Can i get a job as an analyst ? (or at least the pay cheque of one) .... :p

Re. battery. Well even on my newer Gold S6 edge I can still only get around 3-3.5 hr SOT. Never managed to get beyond that on either the Gold or Black one. Given it has a 2,650 mAh battery - and a smaller screen, I suspect the Note 5 will get similar battery life to the S6 edge current despite being 350mAh greater due to the increase in screen size it has to drive.

I was hoping for an SD slot and a bigger battery til the last minute but nothing. I just sold the Nexus 6 and was waiting for the Note 5 but I'll pass. Let's see what the new Nexus would bring.

The high end next gen Nexus phone is #1 on my radar. Not the cheaper budget LG Nexus phone.

Man, is that design beautiful. Though the battery and CPU is kinda disappointing if true. We'll see next week, but it's still at the top of my radar, shortly followed by the Moto x and then nexus.

I just don't ***** get it. What do the marketers think at Samsung and other tech companies ?

Who wouldn't want to have best in class leading battery life, with a slightly thicker phone. Vs. razor wafer thin looking phone, with average battery life.

Reading all the comments on different tech sites, people are REALLY mad about the small battery.
I hope the rumors/leaks to be wrong, in favor to Samsung...

Maybe hardware and software optimisations remove any need for a bigger battery.
As for me, it has Fast charging, so I don't really care too much about average battery life. There's always some point every day when I won't be using the phone.
Loving the design though, and TouchWiz looks amazing.

Optimizations are mostly not effective enough to equal the loss of power...

And just imagine this optimizations AND having a bigger battery, let's say about 3800mAh - smartphone heaven...

guys lollipop is a major reason for crap battery life.google services are conecting none stop and are the main reason for this.

anandtech just did a long review of the exynos 7420 and it's a killer in power efficiency.

let's hope samsung and google get android m working right and forget about the Vista of android this year

Absolutely agree with you, but still, decreasing battery size to make a device 0.5mm thinner is bs.

If the Galaxy Note 5 is anything like the Galaxy S6 (no SD card slot, no removable battery), then I don't see many people restoring their faith in Samsung (of course many will still buy it, but many will inevitably complain). Analysts will blame the lower sales based on the lack of those two features (much like they did with the S5's lack of metal design), only for Samsung to re-introduce them in the next generations, but many of their fans would have already moved on to other Android devices or even the iPhone by then (what's stopping them from doing so, after all?).

One thing is for sure, HTC and LG (as well as all others) will not hold back on their next-generation flagships. I expect 2016 Android flagships to be neck-to-neck in all aspects, including metal designs, battery life, and cameras. It should make for a more interesting year than 2015, that's for sure.

And yet other lollipop devices don't get crap battery life. My Z3 (same battery life as KitKat) My Nexus 6 .. and the M9 I had too had decent battery life overall.

As for 7420 being a killer in power efficiency - would someone kindly tell my S6 edge because it is seemingly unaware ;)

I wish I knew why my Nexus 6 gets subpar battery life compared to others. My Moto G and E get better for sure

I hope Samsung can overhaul their replacement programs because the non-removable battery and lack of SD card support will cause problems if someone's internal memory becomes corrupted or the battery craps out.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Reading a lot of, unsurprising, hostility towards this Note 5 because it's followed Apple with form over function. But the Note 4 will be even more of a bargain now I guess? The White 32GB Note 4 is currently £430 on Amazon, that's £110 cheaper than the 16GB iPhone 6, not the Plus but the normal one....

What kind of battery life are you getting out of curiosity ?

I will routinely get 5.5-6 hr SOT with mine and I'm just running it completely stock unrooted Lollipop 5.1.1

That's a good 2-2.5 hours more than I get on my S6 Edge.

Yep other phones get released with the same battery or less and no one says a word. Samsung releases and phone and all the I told you sos and naysayers come out to pan the phone before it is even released. But then most will buy it anyway.

Right now I am at 49% with 1h53m sot. I am running stock and do not even use apps other than the google apps, Dogcatcher podcast, Cloudmagic email

I think the hostility is that Samsung is trading one set of customers for another. By selling people so hard in the past the virtues of an SD card slot or removable battery, they're really alienating those fans.

On the other side, they gaining fans of their new design philosophy, such as myself, the big question is if there are enough people like me to offset the loss of their former fans.

We'll have to see how it sells I guess. I would personally be tempted with the Note 4, I can see it dropping to £400 by the end of the year.
