I think the hostility is that Samsung is trading one set of customers for another. By selling people so hard in the past the virtues of an SD card slot or removable battery, they're really alienating those fans.

On the other side, they gaining fans of their new design philosophy, such as myself, the big question is if there are enough people like me to offset the loss of their former fans.
True words there. It's just funny to watch the same people who complain about cheap plastic build....... Just find something else to complain about. Yet they all have their favorite pet phone that has the same limitations get a pass on their hostility.

Right now I am at 49% with 1h53m sot. I am running stock and do not even use apps other than the google apps, Dogcatcher podcast, Cloudmagic email

Could cloudmagic be the cause - are you set to PUSH, or check at intervals and if so what intervals? What do your battery statistics reveal about which apps using most ?

Yep other phones get released with the same battery or less and no one says a word. Samsung releases and phone and all the I told you sos and naysayers come out to pan the phone before it is even released. But then most will buy it anyway.

Because it's less battery capacity than previous models it's replacing thats likely the rub for many ...

But all new devices won't please everyone. Just as many apple users moaned about the iPhone 6 & 6 plus - the forums were alight for weeks.

On bright side at least they're not complaining about the CPU being same as S6 & S6 Edge . Which I also predicted :p

I find it to be quite a stunning design. The curved glass on the back makes far more sense to me than on the front display and I never preferred a removable battery--would much rather have a nice, sturdy unibody build. The prevalence of fast charging and wireless charging makes it even less of an issue, IMO. I'd gladly take expandable memory via a slot on the frame but I've never been one that needed enormous amounts of storage so these internal storage amounts suit me just fine.

My biggest issues with Samsung have been two-fold. First, I find the user experience not enjoyable in the slightest. And second, Samsung doesn't offer carrier free, unlocked devices. Until the latter changes, at a minimum, I won't even consider another Samsung phone.

Even though it's not using much screen on time I wonder if 5 emails being checked either push or regular intervals is activating a lot of wifi or cellular data when screen is off and hence still draining power. I honestly don't really know enough about cloudmagic, I just used gmail app and added my pop accounts too it on my Nexus (2 .mac accounts)

Is that in the USA I presume ? We can buy them here in Europe unbranded / carrier free.

Sadly, yes. But I'll be honest, even if they did offer fully unlocked, carrier free versions, until my first issue also changes, I'll continue to look elsewhere as there are plenty of devices with better user experiences, IMO.

From an aesthetic standpoint, Samsung's done everything right and completely nailed it, in my opinion. This change in direction/philosophy comes at a very high cost for power users, obviously, and I understand the annoyances/disappointment.

I know that I'll be buying my first ever Samsung phone this year. The Note 5/S6+ Edge is simply too beautiful a gadget for me to ignore. :D

Yeah, I was one of those that complained about the cheap plastic, but since the Note 4 they've really upped their game imo.

Looking at those pictures again, it's seems it's going to be a deep black instead of a dark glimmer type finish like the S6, big fan of that. Still holding out hope for an updated processor and battery, some rumors claim the 7420 while say it's the 7422. Can't wait til the reveal.

if true, the 3,000 mah battery is a huge disappointment.
Yeah, on some other sites I saw it mentioned that those may be the specs for the edge and that the Note would have the 7422 soc with larger battery, we'll find out for sure next week.

Could also be a case that they may be using different cpu in different territories (if they had production yield issues). I'm sure we will know before the official announcement as the leaks ramp up.

That being said as I mentioned earlier in this thread if they do use the same CPU it's not really an issue as the S6 / Edge 7420 is super fast anyway. The extra 1gb ram will likely make the most notable difference performance wise.

The 7422 looks just to have modem built into the all one one chip being the only difference between it and the 7420 - processor speed will be same regardless so even if some territories get 7422, some may still get 7420.

The Verizon S6 for example uses Qualcomm modem whereas the rest use Samsung's own modem.

If the 7422 is all-in-one it will be using Samsung's modem, which may explain why the benchmarks for N920v (presumably Verizon version) shows 7420 as they would likely continue to offer it with the Qualcomm modem.

So I do predict Verizon and few others will get 7420 and some will get 7422 .... The speed and performance other than that will be exactly the same regardless.

Yeah, the S6 was indeed super fast, it's just that some apps are less optimized than others and the faster the processor the better it compensates for that. I also like to run N64 and PSX roms and those still skip frames even on the lowest settings. And in the past its always been a step ahead of the Galaxy S series, so I was expecting that trend to continue.

Not a huge deal if it's the same, as you said the S6 was a great performer.

Oh i am sure you have another "I told you so loaded and ready" :p But are you sure it will be the same processor? I think there are conflicting reports. Anyway we will know next week.

Yeah as I explained above, chances are they will use both as there is only really the modem difference between the two. So we could see the N920f and AT&T / T-Mobile N920 with the 7422 and Verizons N920v which even with the S6/S6 edge used a different Qualcomm modem use the 7420 with existing Qualcomm modem.

Speed performance wise it's not any different it's just more of a refinement to the all in one chip with the Samsung modem onboard rather than separate - so either way you'll still get the same performance as current S6/S6 edge - which are basically super speedy and fastest at opening apps anyway. :)

Those pictures have already been posted in this thread.

Wow, it looks so nice with the Samsung logo blurred out, lol. It looks quite a bit thicker than I expected, I'm wondering if that 7.1mm they threw around was maybe the thinnest edge instead of the thickest point.

I've been emotionally distancing myself from the Note series these past few weeks. I may consider the S6+ edge, have to see how it feels in the hand. Besides being sick of crappy hardware I'm also feeling that Samsung is not making this feel like a true flagship, things like no front facing stereo speakers for example. I'm even thinking about going back to Apple land depending on how the 6s looks. Will be kind of weird to not buy the Note series on release for the first time though.

I have a feeling the S6+ edge is going to be the one to beat this year and the Note series is going to lose a lot of users.

Can't go wrong with an iphone. But does it have front facing stereo speakers? What about the Note 5 that we know of so far that is not flagship? Just curious.

I'm a iPhone 6 Plus user at the moment, but i do have to to admit that the Note 5 leaks look good. I was curious about the Note 4 last year but what put me off was Andriod and the fact that I had a S4 and it was buggy and felt a lot different to the iPhone in terms of responsiveness. The Note series has intrigued me tho with the S pen and it's features.
