Are there any official specs on size? It just looks much thicker than I anticipated and I hope they are not using the thin edges to measure the thickness. I know it's mostly the perspective of the pictures, but those top and bottom shots make it look very thick. I don't mind trading off thinness for removable memory/battery, but if they take that away then it better be substantially thinner than my Note 4.

Anyone else wish for a black surround instead of the gray? I'd love a stealth looking all black Note 4.

I think it just 'looks' thick. If it was thick the camera wouldn't be humping on the back like it does on the S6 & S6e. I would assume it's close to S6 thickness.

That's true, it looks like the camera protrudes more than on my Note 4.

So the Note 5 and S6 Edge+ are pretty much the same size. I love how in this pic next to the iPhone, it's clearly smaller, yet has a bigger screen. The iPhone looks so damn ancient and a mid tier device next to the S6 Edge+. Hard to even think these two are in the same price range. Crazy.

Agreed......but you won't see a iphone redesign until the iPhone 7 at the earliest.
iPhone looks a bigger screen to me...it's wider
It does....Apple is the best at blending software and hardware. But their refresh process of biyearly redesign sometimes leaves the competition ahead of them in design. But no doubt Apple will kill it with the iphone 7 design wise.

Exactly my point. A lot of wasted space with those big bezels on the iPhone. That is just not acceptable on one of the most expensive flagship devices around. You wanna charge top dollar, you better be presenting top dollar hardware and design. Simple logic.

With all that wasted bezel space on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Apple should put front facing stereo speakers to make use of it. Still, it's so huge it must feel like holding a pizza slice next to your head. It's also overdue for a design overhaul but with Ive out of the way it's doable.

Those kind of silly comments are exactly what your slamming people for saying about Samsung in other threads.

Nothing silly about pointing out the facts. Big bezels on displays are a thing of the past. What would you say about a new TV trying to charge flagship prices yet have bezels the size of the Old Kuro TVs? When a company can create and implement new manufacturing processes to squeeze a display in a smaller footprint, all the while keeping costs competitive, that's something worth pointing out. Far from silly my friend.

You were being silly calling it a midtier device and your definition of what warrants a high quality device / design is subjective, it is certainly not universal fact.

Then there is the double standard of some people that own an iPhone and Android phones. But call out Samsung for not including a removable battery and SD Card in the Note 5. Apple gets a pass for never having those things.

Oh please just stop it with the bezels. It's not wasted space. They do put components there. And do you want a big battery? If they were smaller, and the phone was a bit thicker, what would the advantage be?

I agree.

Also, in a previous post, someone mentioned that if this Note doesn't sell well, the Note will be discontinued. Not only do I disagree, but I think that Samsung may decide to include the s pen in more devices such as the future 6s, etc... If more of their flagships had it, that would be a good differentiator. For me, the larger screen is preferred. However, many females and some males that I know would love to have the s pen in a smaller phone.

So curious....based on what we know. New iPhone or galaxy note 5? It's the choice I have to make, and it's going to be tough. Curious to hear some honest reasoning, not biased BS.

I found a lot of truth to his comment. While I think the iphone has a beautiful design, fit and finish, I also think the bezels are way way too large and look amateurish. At least slim down the top bezel, it would have truly looked sick then.

THIS. Why stereo front facing speakers aren't standard on flagships is beyond me. To truly appreciate a smartphone as a media consumption device you gotta have the right sound.

Oh c'mon now......other OEMs are making phones with larger screens and slimmer bezels without being thick. They also don't sacrifice great battery life.

True.

Apple keeps so the design and maximizes profit, sticking with the two year design time frame.

They won't change that unless they have to. Why would they?

True...they have the best selling phone in the world.
If their customers don't demand it.....they have no reason to do it.

It was the slamming of it as midtier device that was what I was mostly calling silly tbh and the dichotomy / hypocrisy of that post and the posters one in the other thread giving out about people posting similar things about the S6.

S6 edge looks nice from the front but has the ugliest rear in any smartphone. S6 is pig ugly all round. The Note phones was probably bought by most people as it was previously the only phablet available. I can see the Note 5 sales being canabalised by the Edge plus as the edge plus looks alot better and most dont give a monkeys about the S Pen.

As for the Edge making the iphone look mid tier...... lol. The Edge is still effectively a prototype given its obviously unfinished rear. A few more iterations of Samsungs Edge is needed before it can really compare to high end phones.

I await to see the selling price of Samsung new devices. Im not talking about RRP as I expect Samsung to still not have a clue but rather the market price 1 month on so that these things actually sell in large numbers. Am expecting 60% of RRP within a few weeks.

Exactly. If it isn't broken, why fix it?

It cost money to revamp a design. People are literally pouring money into apple's reserves. I a torn between the note 5 and the upcoming 6s+. Even if I pick apple, I hope Samsung does really well. Competition sparks innovation and more competitive prices.

Couldn't disagree more. The s6 and edge are nice looking phones. Front and back.
