You do realise that stating the Note 5 looks alot like the S6 is perhaps the biggest insult you can give to the Note 5 phone. If it does resemble the S6 too much in real life it is even more dead that before.

I find it funny how many are moaning about no IR blaster and making that the sole reason for no purchase. Why is an IR blaster even on a phone?

Android and Samsung just ooze lower tier.

Also when will Samsung fix their icons and general screen layout. It still looks like it was designed by an 5 yr old. If it wasnt for the likes of Nova laucher etc Android would have much less sales.

I cannot stand the way the standard icons look.

Nice trolling, it is sure to get some riled up. It is amazing what some people can get by with while I make one little questionable move I get smacked down with a ban.

I had the S6 and loved the the phone. It was the fastest most responsive phone I have ever used. It was just too small for me. The build quality was top notch. So if the Note 5 can look like the S6 and with a bigger screen and S-Pen with the same best in class camera. How can it be wrong?

That sounds perfectly reasonable (about 5hrs SOT plus standby drain).

I guess 4-5 hours would be on par with my S6 times but with the bigger battery trading off against the larger display.
.

I'm at 88% battery and only 24 min screen on time with my Edge :(

I'm still getting about 3 to 3.5 on mine.

Hmm that's pretty bad but I've read enough to know it's not an exception. I have struggled to get over 3hrs occasionally when it's 4G and a weak signal but EE is pretty good unless I go really rural.

If the N5 ships with 3hrs SOT they'd better be ready for an avalanche of returns.

Again with the low tier....your opinion. Whatever you want to think. Tech writers don't agree with you, and 50%+ of the market doesn't. Also, you can say "if someone has the money, they will buy an iPhone"...because it just simply isn't true. Anyway...don't arguing this point with you.

The s6 and s6 edge are the two most premium phones on the market, until next week. My edge was the best phone I ever owned. The battery life wasn't great...but I think that depends on the person. I have been loving the battery life on the iPhone 6+ that I have been using for a few weeks....but the last few days it has been really poor. Go figure?

You also essentially stated that android wouldn't sale as well without its ability to customize its looks...um, no kidding? That is one of the BIGGEST pluses of android.....

Do better.

I had the S6 and loved the the phone. It was the fastest most responsive phone I have ever used. It was just too small for me. The build quality was top notch. So if the Note 5 can look like the S6 and with a bigger screen and S-Pen with the same best in class camera. How can it be wrong?

Agreed

3-3.5 isn't that bad. I just need my phone to make it through the day. I don't care about making it through two days...just easily make it though a normal day and Ill be happy.

Honestly, I have enjoyed using the iPhone these last few weeks...but I do find it limiting. I one drive, gmail, google calendar, and variety of other services. I can't attach a document from my one drive, using the gmail (or inbox) app...I have to go through the one drive app. Some apps can share between each other...other apps can't. Pushbullet simply won't work. Using android, when using multiple services, is less of a headache. Now if I was completely entrenched in the apple eco system (I do have a mac and iPad...but thats it)....the iPhone would make more sense. But I don't have an apple tv, I don't use iCloud, etc.

I have a 2015 macbook pro (because of the hardware...can't beat it...but dell is closing the gap FAST), iPad air 2 (most powerful tablet, and android doesn't have a PDF reader worth a dang, and that is REAL important to me), chrome cast, amazon fire stick, xbox one, playstation 4, nest, etc. I use one drive for cloud storage, and google for google now, gmail, calendar, etc. I use the best tech available for each category. I am not loyal to any one company.

For this situation, the note 5 integrates the best with all of these services.

Now if for some reason I hate the note 5 when I get it (thats the plan)...Ill move to the new iPhone or nexus.

But next year, when Apple redesigned the iPhone....Samsung better bring their A game. Android already has "google on tap" and other features rolling forward. It will be a good year in tech.

Mine is even worse than that

even on just wifi I would barely get 3 hours on screen time.

Battery life is pretty bad and it's why I'm looking forward to getting the 6 plus S

Yeah I am very rural which i am sure contributes to it. 3-3.5 is the best SOT, the worst I had was about 90 minutes over a 14 hour day. At least I never get dropped calls though which is more important to me than overall SOT. I am waiting to see the results of the S6 Edge + / alongside the extra 1gb ram implications. If it's all positive - I will HAVE to try and get that Emerald Edge that has eluded me albeit the + model this time.

The green is beautiful. I wouldn't mind that grey either...but it looks like Ill be stuck with black or white.

Wow, I must be the only person actually getting use out of the pen. I haven't used anything else for notes/math/etc. in a year now (some exceptions, like labs filled with phone-melting solvents). Writing a little smaller + OneNote's infinite scroll and I've rarely felt the area needed to be larger. It's not what you'd pick for working at a desk, but the idea is that you no longer need to sit at a desk for that kind of work.

Just kind of disappointing announcement for me... I don't care about curved screens or aesthetic updates, just need that hand-held Wacom digitizer. If they're not going to sell it in Europe this year I have to imagine that's a test run for cutting the line entirely.

What do people even use smartphones for, talking to friends and playing games? That can't be right, that would be dumb.

Here are some comparison pictures between the Note 5 and my 4, as you can see, they even somehow made chrome more efficient with the screen realestate, not sure how they did that. And the color seems better on the 5 too, not as yellow as my 4.

Thats a great change...one of my pet peeves with previous Notes. Everything seemed overly large and blown up---the notification panel particularly drove me nuts. Felt like they were wasted that extra screen real estate.

These posts have me itching to head over to BB to take a look myself.

Damn that's pretty awful. I love the camera but I think I'd surrender and return it if that's all I could manage on WiFi.

Last phone I remember with 2-3 hours SOT accompanied by terrible idle drain was the Find 5. Took six months for Oppo to fix that and I vowed never to have my primary phone so thirsty again. I also recall the S2 bleeping every afternoon without fail too.

I don't think Samsung are crazy enough to surrender that much with the Note 5.

This is a very nice improvement. The yellowish hue on the Note 4 was a real disappointment for me.

Not sure what you mean about the icons but here is my stock launcher gs6 home screen.

You can also change it up in the theme store

Shows how you can make icons very stock like with material themes.

Do we know if the new icons are going to come to the theme store (the ones on the Note 5 / Edge+)

Looks good but my point was the stock icons are beautiful

I actually don't like the dialer icon stock version - the new stock one in note 5/Edge+ looks better to me with its rounded green checkerboard background.

But yeah my point was that even if you dont like the stock icons, there are many options for changing icons.

They were charging way too much for the 128GB on the S6 @ 1k+ hence why hardly anyone would buy it.

Shame they aren't offering now.

The ability to change the appearance of your phone was one the the reasons why i love android and left iOS for.

Sweet, I preorder ed it earlier today (and it was cheaper than I though, $349) and it has already shipped! I got my apple watch a couple of weeks early, maybe I'll get lucky again and my Note comes early too.

Yeah the grey Note 5 in MKBHD's recent hands-on video looked lovely.

I'm a gold person but the grey looks so good. I might be really shallow and jsut get the S6 + edge for it's looks. I'm in lust. I just about managed to avoid buying the gorgeous S6 edge. Don't know if I can hold off the edge plus. I'm doing a lot of over time in the next few weeks for no good reason. The money is just sititng there...

I wanted to hold off and not get the S6 Edge and wait for the S6 Edge+ or Note 5. Now they're here and instead I just went ahead and bought the regular S6 Edge. I looked at the Emeral version and was sold. Not sure if I regret not having waited for the larger screen, but I'm actually quite happy with the regular size. My old phones are an iPhone 4S and a Sony Xperia Ultra Z (that's 6 inches of screen heaven). Now I have one that fits right in the middle and I must say, using that S6 Edge screen is breathtaking. I didn't think I'd like the size for videos but that, too, is quite comfortable.

I'll get the iPhone 6S Plus later this year and will hold out till next year to buy the Note 5.
