Ok, so why are some of you using an alternate launcher? Is it basically for customization purposes you prefer?

My Note 5 is speedy, fluid and with no lag.

Who are you referring to?

Myself, personally, just really love the form and function of action launcher 3. It allows me to have everything I need on my homepage, uncluttered. I recommend it. Different then the likes or nova, but I really enjoy it.

I'm using Nova for a couple reasons. I didn't like the folders in the TouchWiz launcher, they were too small and I had to scroll to see some of my apps. And I like how in Nova I can setup gestures, so I have swipe down to search like the iPhone and swipe up for Google now. I also like the Polycon icon set.

For me I just prefer Nova. I have the Nova settings saved to my G drive so I can restore it to any Android phone I have. So I get a great consistent experience across all my Android phones.

That's a great idea. I need to do that lol.

I am a big fan of Nova myself, use it on every phone.

But how does Nova handle TW ? Touchwiz widgets can't be sued with Nova right ? Does it seems to speed up the Note 5 ? Or take up too much memory on the already bogged TW OS ?

I learned to do that since I switch to so many phones. Then when I flashed different roms I could restore and get the same settings as before I flashed a rom.
You just have to remember to update your Nova back every now and then.

Some widgets can't, some can. The snote widget, for example, works.

Correct. That is the drawback of TW, Some of the Samsung widgets won't work right on Nova.
For me it doesn't seem to slow TW down at all.

Question, are you having any lagging? Only I saw a review of an S6 running Nova and it said that there was absolutely no lag, contrary to other claims. Is this the case with you? And do you have app refreshing?

I do get some skipped frames here and there, but not enough to really consider it lag. Other than that, it's really fast and smooth, so no lagging as far as I'm concerned.

The app refresh I hardly notice. When it happens, it loads fast enough that's in no problem. But ymmv.

Don't know why but I always liked the Samsung Weather widget (on the Note 4 and S6). Since that doesn't work on other launchers I always go back to TW instead of adding Chronus or something.

What theme are some of you guys using? I'm using the Space theme mostly because it's free and it gives the UI a nice dark look. Keyboard, settings menu, contacts, calender, messages all in a dark blue. Love it!!

I use Nova on my note 4. I can confirm Sammy's weather widget works on Nova. That would be the one powered by AccuWeather.

Weird article alert:

http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/24/9196933/oppo-r7-plus-specs-features-release-date-price

This seems like an utterly desperate comparison (clickbait title?) implying potential Note5 buyers are so aggrieved by no SD card and smaller battery that they're willing to drop the S-Pen, settle for a mid range chip, lose multi-window apps, go 1080 / 6-inch in a massive device. And then it mentions no 4G in the US.

I like Oppo and unfortunately this guy has got two devices, aimed at different users, horribly mixed up.

The verge is lame, shouldnt expect anything less. I stopped going to that site a long time ago

Ah, I wonder why it won't work on the S6 as it's AccuWeather powered too. The simple widget show in the list but not the nicer scrollable, detailed one.

In fairness to the article it does say 'a few users' so doesn't indicate an actual figure on that. There are at least 4 Note users on this thread that have raised concerns detailed in the article so it does bare some truth, even if it's on a small scale.

yep....4 out of what a few thousands at least by now. I wonder how many iphone users complained about Apple releasing the IP6 and the bigger screens? Probably more than are complaining about no SD cards and no removable battery. Then look how it turned out for Apple. Of course Samsung won't see anything close to those sales numbers but the comparison is on par.

Fair point. I just think it's primarily aimed at the Chinese market (especially as it's Oppo and there's no US oriented SKU) as a challenger to Huawei, Vivo, etc for the mid-range chipped 6-inch phablet space that they really go for as media consumption devices. An article on that would have made more sense to me.

Material, material dark, mint
