Wow, this thread blew up.

OK, first, Samsung has always had problems optimizing their software, I have no problem with people calling them out, in fact I encourage it because criticism like that is how Samsung was forced to up their design and build game. We wouldn't have a phone as fantastic ly designed like the Note 7 if not for all the crap they received after the S5, so I hope more criticize them about software performance, updates, and bloatware.

Now, that doesn't mean the Note 7 is horrible and anyone who purchased one is a chump. As I've said before, cell phones have gotten so good that the differences between them are slight. The Note has a better screen and camera, but if you hold side by side with the iphone the difference is slight. Sure, you'll notice the Note is better in those aspects, but in normal use the difference is so slight that you would be overlooking those things had you decided to go with iPhone instead.

And it's the same with performance, yes, the iphone is faster, but side by side in normal use the difference is slight, enough that if you chose the Note you'll overlook it.

Of course I still don't have my Note 7 yet, so I could be wrong, but judging by how my S7 and S7 Edge performed I'll be fine with my Note 7's performance too, even side by side with my iPhone 6S Plus.

Interesting. My fifty year old brain, however, can not differentiate processing speeds and operational speeds that differ by even full seconds, much less fractions of a second. But I'm sure there are many users who can. The speed at which my 11 year old chooses options on the menus of her apps astounds me.

So far I'm loving the wealth of features in the Note 7. I'm sorting through the bloat but haven't deleted anything yet. I find some of it interesting. I'm so used to staring at dozens of stock Apple apps I never use so I've not yet developed the deep hatred of carrier and Samsung bloat yet and my eyes just skim past it all.

I am concerned about the phone getting hot. It has not yet done so. I hope to get some time to try and watch a movie on it or play a game and see what happens. I see animations on my iPad stutter all the time and sometimes on my iPhones, too. I never know enough to know why.

I got my edge menus all set up. I love that. I'm really looking forward to seeing how IOS 10 goes about copying some Android features.

I do keep trying to use 3D touch on my Note 7, which is funny because my SE doesn't have it at all and I rarely use it on my 6S Plus. :p

My Gear S2 watch is pretty cool. It has its own phone number when it's not in Bluetooth contact with the Note 7. I'm going to try and call my dad on it later. He's always amused when I get new technology and use him as a Guinea pig.

Oh and I'm so shocked how well the iris scanner works. I still think fingerprints are faster but I'm already used to scanning my eyeballs. I thought it was a gimmick and that I would never use it but I use it most of the time indoors. I haven't tried it out in bright sunlight yet.

I know. It sucks. It won't sync them at all.

I wiped the cache partiction, did multiple factory resets, wiped the individual date of multiple apps, and followed all of the tutorials I could find on how to fix it, but it's hopeless. This is actually my 2nd Note 7. I had the problem on the one that Verzion shipped. I went to my local Verizon yesterday and swapped it for a new one and the same issue was present. Total bummer.

Follow this link to the Google search results for "Unfortunately google contacts has stopped syncing" or google it yourself. My contacts/phone never synced and it was absolutely setup properly. This is a known issue on some devices. Glad you've never had an issue.
Yeah mine haven't synced yet, either. My husband took the sim out of his iPhone and put it in his Note 7. He does have all his contacts but I don't know if it's because he swapped sims or syncing worked for him. I'll ask him when he gets back in. I'm not really worried about it because I was going to redo my contacts anyway. I've got a lot of ones that needed updating or deleting. I procrastinated. I'm on AT&T. But ideally if I can get my contacts to move over I'll do it. Hubby said he'd take a look later at what's going on. If I have anything to report I will. I think he said he could do it over ICloud but don't hold me to that. We are on a vacation with extended family and it's chaotic here.

I don't even think it's really about the 6s plus even though that's almost a one year old phone, but that the note 7 seemingly did relatively poor against older, cheaper android alternatives like the htc 10 or even the 400 opo3. For the optimization supposedly touted by the new ui xda seemingly found similar issues based on past history. I get that the note offers a lot of features but for the price I guess they expected marked improvement in the software category.

I'm sure lots of people are happy with their notes and that's great though.

"Relatively poor" is the key phrase here. It should definitely be called out on performing worse than other SD820 phones out now, especially because of the high the price. But I also don't think it's a deal breaker to most people, as speed wise all those phones are fast and it loading an app a second or 2 slower isn't going to sway anyone who likes the design or the feature set of the Note 7.

This is how Sammy rolls....when i've got my S6 the performance was bad and memory management disastrous but then 6.0 update came and now the phone works really well.

They probably rushed the software and concentrate on 7.0 update.

You can't be serious. Real world experience trumps everything. I tap on an app, it opens instantly. Maneuvering through out the UI is instant. Unlocking is instant. Menu slide out instantly, etc. I'm not going to let colored bars and graphs convince me otherwise. Plus, I ran the GPU rendering profile myself, and it was nowhere as crazy as shown in the review.

that's because there phone was first booting up and probably syncing a million things in the background.my gs6 has got faster and faster with each update as time went on and has bit slowed down at all.im on a gs7 now and it's running like it was from day one also.

those are just articles for page hits

Yeah essentially if you were turned off phones because of Samsung's software and occasional hiccups, the chances are you wouldnt be in the market for a Note 7 regardless.

Whilst certainly Samsung do need a kick up the bum to get optimising the SD 820 and fix the issues some users are reporting (the keyboard lag and such should not be there and is inexcusable) the reality is if you are in the market for a stylus phablet - there isn't much otherwise to choose from.

XDA are right to call out Samsung and ALL consumers including Samsung fans should demand better because we are paying for it, but by the same token there is a measure of 'mountains out of molehills' here also.

Hopefully Samsung are listening and will address the issues highlighted, the hardware is clearly powerful enough that there shouldn't be these issues, and only by accepting they are there can we expect Samsung to address them. But by same token can we have less of the 'drama queen' reactions all-round.

Totally agree. While I definitely have lag, it's certainly not a deal breaker and I will keep the phone. But as I mentioned before I'm not convinced my almost $900 phone should be lagging when phones priced half as much and released a year ago don't. Personally I wouldn't pay almost $900 for the Note 7 given it's issues with lag, carrier bloat, carriers deleting Samsung features, the scratch issues with GG5, not coming with Nougat, locked bootloader, etc. I'm satisfied though with the price I paid and can deal with what are fairly minor issues. Price is a sensitive issue and very personal and I don't blame anyone who feels fully justified paying almost $900, it has a lot of features all those other phones don't have. But damn for almost $900 I was just hoping for the ultimate experience.

Ma'am you have to understand I'm not an Android enthusiast and even less a Samsung enthusiast. I'm a DIY / Open Source enthusiast so I dislike sugar and flatter with every fiber in my being because it prevents progress. You and the whole world may be happy with the Note / Galaxy / iPhone but if no one points out the faults as they see them then things stagnate.

I had my preordered N7 for few days and it's now gone. Replaced with an iphone 6s plus.

I really wanted to like Android, but I was getting stuttering and lag right out of the box. Maybe a dud unit, maybe my own perception, but for me anyway, unacceptable for a brand new top of the line handset.

The performance difference between that and the iphone was downright shocking (at least in my experience).

Anyway, just my 2 cents, fwiw.

Yeah, BOGO on AT&T meant my husband's N7 will be around $200. Then we got free watches and hopefully can still get the free SD cards, though I bought relatively inexpensive 64 GB Pro U3 ones already for our trip. It made it all a good deal and if we don't need the extra lines we bought to get the deal we can add family members onto them, take some off of older lines.

I'm dropping T-Mobile on my iPad and using my Note 7 to tether it. I could never get a signal where I live and travel on TMo anyway.

At any rate we got a situation where we can juggle some things around and make it work out for us financially better than if we had decided to upgrade to the next generation of IPhones at full price. It's a little hard to explain it all here but it works.

I think much of this is spot on, as well as MRU's comments. The Note 7 should be a class leading device with no caveat or qualification. Disappointing that it's not.

Having said that, the truth is if you find it to be great, and works the way you want it to, all the site reviews in the world don't matter. There's so much to love about the phone.

I own an S7 Edge. I've found so far it's actually faster than the Note 7. I was in love with the Note 7 upon first using it. As I've spent more time with it, I'm less impressed. I like the look of the new TW, I love the design, and I want to love the features. But lag and stuttering is a problem. It most certainly isn't unusable or even bad but you can't help but compare it to the other phones you have and have used. In my case I've been swapping out between an iPhone 6S+ and GS7E as daily drivers. I find both to be faster. Sometimes the difference is negligible. Sometimes not, such as when opening up a media app like HBO Go or Netflix. Note lags bad on those.

So Touchwiz Magazine UX (I think what it's called on the S7/S7E) > Grace UX Touchwiz?

With the haters now in full effect, you know they just gotta be devastated with what the competition, specifically Samsung, are doing in the mobile space. Especially when compared to the lackluster efforts of Apple and it's iPhone. And with rumors only pointing to another blah iPhone next month, the trolls have l come in full effect in this thread. Some even pretending they have/had the phone and experiencing one issue after another. To which just returning it was the only option, and picking up an iPhone. Because if there ever was a phone to have no issues, it's the iPhone.
Meanwhile my phone should arrive today, and I'll enjoy holding and using something that contains hardware from tech of today. ;)

I have to chime in. My Note 7 is very fast and has little lag (every iPhone I've has had lag!). It is great. Also, I'm not just a Samsung fan, I'm an Apple fan, too. When the iPhone 7 comes out, I will be upgrading to that (from my iPhone SE - it's really good but just too small).

The only concern I had was that my Note 7 was getting hot while wireless charging. Now, even that doesn't happen.

This Note 7 is a great phone (yes, it's overpriced!).

With all due respect what you say sounds a little trollish. The reason I say that is even though I've voiced my complaints on the Note 7 I am not a "hater", rather I quite like the Note 7 and am keeping it. I'm not a "troll" and have voiced my opinion and complaints to help further the discussion in hopes of solutions being found or helping fellow forum members make their decisions. I have the phone and I am not pretending or making up my experiences.

It goes both ways, we can extoll the virtues of the Note 7 and should as its fun. But when we do voice our opinions we shouldn't be labeled a "hater" or "troll" or an Apple lover. We are actually all in this together as tech lovers and I'd rather be a tech lover of both Apple and Android, than be labeled as someone on only one side.

So Touchwiz Magazine UX (I think what it's called on the S7/S7E) > Grace UX Touchwiz?

I don't know. I definitely prefer how Grace looks, much cleaner "adult" version of TW. I've just found in the limited time I've had the Note that my Edge is faster.

What kind of boot loop issues? My wife's has restarted on her for no reason, I'm curious to see if anyone else has this.

The blue one re-started itself last night, was just sitting on the table.. Will be watching a bit more closely for further reboots or issues. Other than that, and a somewhat mediocre SOT (which might be too early to judge right now), it's pretty darn good.

I was going to dissect your outburst but then realized...what's the point? You're thrilled with a phone you don't even own yet, have no idea how it runs, and have yet to know if you'll have any issues. You're not really interested in tech, of today or any other time, you just want a home team to root for and an away team to root against.

Enjoy your phone!

Samsung has been the most criticized smartphone manufacturers for almost a decade. Don't think the majority has ever downplayed negatives of Samsung phones.

Pointing out issues is not the problem, the problem is exaggeration. Geeks and tech enthusiasts do have a voice that gets to the average consumers. And those average consumers will think the Note 7 runs at a snails pace, when it's quite the opposite. And with enough criticism being mimicked by those that wouldn't have a clue, Samsung might decide to just completely scrape some features or change something for the worst.

Kind of like how many labeled the IR blaster as a gimmick, and now they want it back. Sometimes exaggeration that gets passed down to average consumers hurts progress rather than help, cause Samsung will think about it's reputation and sales from the average consumer before progress that pleases device geeks. And I really don't want any features to be axed from future Samsung phones just to make it 4ms faster.

I had various Samsung phones in the past and the software experience was so bad that I swore "never again!" I had great hope for the Note 7, particularly when reading about their optimization of TouchWiz in reviews, but am sad to hear a number of people are experiencing problems. Kind of glad I didn't roll the dice and preorder the Note 7.

I hope Samsung cleans up the group responsible for their skins/UX/software, because to hear about these problems for years is shocking.

I am a little concerned about the Nougat update with the S7 then.

Everyone loves to hate on the new phone no matter what it is...to be the first to point out something that is wrong. Then there is the obvious troll posts from Apple fans who just want rain on Samsung's parade.

I am all for pointing out defects problems or issues. I have done so myself here in this thread.

But some of these videos comparisons are just pure rubbish. They don't simulate real world use anymore than benchmarks do.
I have an N7, OPO3, S7 edge, 6s+ and do not for the life of me notice one is any faster than the other.
How i use my phones differ from one to the next. I don't take my iphone or OPO3 near my pool or water when hiking, fishing or anything similar. But i can with my N7, S7 edge without fear of them getting wet just as an example.
I can drop a whole 40GB of music/movie on my N7 and S7 edge and know that is on my SD card and not worry about it taking space on my phone.

You can't show that in those side by side app opening tests videos. Who does that anyway? No one uses their phones that way.
The technology in phones today is so good right now you will not notice a difference in everyday usage between them.
