If I paid full price for the phone I might be tempted to return it, but since I got them on a BOGO I'm fairly satisfied since my price was closer to $500 per phone. The one thing that really really worries me is the horrendous update schedule from US carriers.

Was wondering if Samsung do release an unlocked / unbranded SD820 version for the USA market, can you not simply download it's firmware from sammobile when it is available and flash it on your Note 7 via Odin. Your device will remain official, you will not void warranty or trip knox and you will circumvent carrier updates and as a bonus de-bloat at same time.

Its what a lot of us Europeans do with our devices.

That being said, carrier updates may be slow, but unbranded non carrier updates direct from Samsung can be likewise. But the benefits of no branding and less bloat makes it worthwhile for me.

The thing is it's that it isn't very quick at all. Read the links.

Anandtech's review was the first to point the obvious, and they got a lot of crap because of it. It's good to see XDA and people at r/android validating what should be common knowledge.

Even well known Youtube reviewers are now dropping the "pretty quick" BS, unsupported, claim.

I advise you to read the XDA link. On the other hand, after reading your post history, never mind. You make a collection of Galaxies. GO for it.
I've read the link and the article from the site which is owned by an apple employee

The only reviews that matter to me are the people who are considered the best reviewers on YouTube

None have mentioned any issue with performance or lag.

Flossy carter's review is coming and if there is lag and performance issues he will state it. IF people like him have no issue then there is no issue for most people.

So far the most important people in terms of credibility in tech have not mentioned any such issues.

Anybody can make any device look bad if they wanted to.

My note 7 arrives on the 30th and if he the performance and lag is bad then it will go back.

Btw my post history? Hmmm if I had some big issue with Samsung phones I wouldn't be buying the note 7 if my previous experience is bad

More people are happy with Samsung phones than those who aren't.

Guys...Guys....stop feeding the troll and just report him. This isn't the first time a new MR member has come into the alternative section to try to rile up all the regulars. So don't reply to him and just report him for what he is trying to do :)

No one is arguing about specs. Read the previous posts with more attention, this time.
All Galaxy devices are slower than every other modern flagship.

Unfortunately, a lot of users and everyone at XDA disagree with you. Being slower than every other flagship while costing so much isn't ok.
Most user don't come on forums or read XDA reviews. Most don't know or care about speed tests with other phones. Enthusiasts and geeks care but the general public do not.

Ok...but you know that has nothing to do with the phone and it is accounts and or setting related?

But the iphone is a great phone so enjoy!

It's a software issue. It isn't' the hardware's fault at all, but I still want use it with that issue and neither google nor the skin developers (touch wiz, sense, etc,) have been able to fix it.

So you refused to read the XDA review? Why? That review did not only buried Samsung with some factual data, it also showed how some popular youtube reviewers changed their mind very quickly about the note 7.

Also, the authors and some XDA staff were on r/android praising anandtech and their review process, and how they are the only ones to care about being factual and objective about their reviews.

Anandtech's POV is all based about the data. It's very easy to disprove, if they are wrong. Of course, informed opinions based on facts might not suit your agenda. Ignore my opinion. Read the XDA link. Go to r/android. Actually use the devices.

If it doesn't bother you, it's ok. But it doesn't change the fact that it is slower than any flagship released from any other company in the last 12 months. That doesn't mean that it is slow. But it is slower than everybody else on any single relevant task.

As I said I don't care if my S7 edge is slower than my iPhone 6S plus or any other android phone. It's fast enough. I don't have my note 7 yet so I can't comment but it has the same internals as the S7 edge so should perform equally well. My S7 edge is plenty fast. I don't buy my phones based on speed tests on the Internet. My purchases are based on a whole spectrum of features. The HTC 10 and LG G 5 might be faster than my S7 edge but I'm not interested in either phone because they don't have the features that I need.

It's a bit odd to call out all reviewers, except anandtech, for being unfairly biased towards the note 7....and then proceed to end your posted with your own biases.

I read anandtech review. I used to love their reviews...but I have become jaded with them more and more. What was once the best review site on the net, is now filled with bias. I mean, for example, they call out Samsung for having a stale design, in the second year of their sesifn language. Did they call out Apple? No

I also read several other review, all highly positive. Even the verge rated it extremely well, which is saying something.

In the past year alone, I have owned the 6s plus, 6p, s7 edge, lg g5 briefly, and now the note 7.

The note 7 is shaping up to be the rare phone that I don't have a complaint with. It's fast, the software (touchwize plus Android) finally mesh together and I actually like it, great camera, amazing screen, incredible build, and the best ergonomics of any phone this size. Top that off with note features than any other phone on the market (whether you use them or not).

I am inclined to disagree with you that the note 7 is slower than a 12 month old phone. Comparing it to the iPhone is a poor choice. If your going to do that, take into account the extra features and different ways the operating systems perform. The way iOS "multitasks" alone accounts for the speed in which it reopens apps in these YouTube face offs. Look it up, do you own research, and you'll understand the difference. iOS doesn't multitasks the same, and is limited in instances as a result.

I guess I could spend a week comparing 15 phones base on speed, software, build, screen, camera, ergonomics, features, company rep, how cool does it make me look, and will it help me get laid (it won't, I'm married, cleaning the house does).....or I could just enjoy a complete package of a phone.

I find myself on here less and less...largely due to the pointless arguments.

For the hell of it, here is my points of view:

Android is the best phone OS, and Samsung has improved tremendously. There is a reason for their renewed popularity. Nexus remains my favorite, but it's becoming harder and harder to to ignore what Samsung offers.

iOS is still the best tabler experience, and my iPad pro 9.7 is a powerful tool. iOS is still a bit limited, but the Android tablet scene is poor, and windows makes for a better hybrid setup.

Windows 10 is not equals, and in many some ways, rivals mac. I love my surface book, but a MacBook pro is still a great machine. The Apple tax is a bit heavy, though, with the Dell XPS line really putting together some incredible laptops.

I think people are crazy to pay $3000 for a iMac 5k that is not even half as powerful as the desktop I built a month ago (including moniter, etc). You can't even get an iMac that comes close to a well built PC. Windows 10 makes for a great desktop experience, not to mention the gaming scene.

You know what that was above? My opinion, just like your post, but stated less as a fact.

I've already said I've read it.

That said until I have the note 7 in my hands I can't comment on if that's real world experience

All the main YouTube reviewers who I follow have had no issues

If the issues that that article have stated are there when I get my note 7 where performance is bad and it's laggy then yes that wouldn't be good enough and I would return it

Until that time comes it won't bother me until I see any issues myself. If the note 7 isn't good enough performance wise I will stick with my iPhone.

However I don't see it being the case, we will see

For example I've seen one YouTube review where the note 7 is faster in general tasks than the 6s plus. So yes it can happen

Hey guys do you think there is anything wrong with using the Nexus 6P Usb c charger on the Samsung Note 7? Also, is it just me or the Samsung Note 7 charger seems to charge the phone "not fast enough." When at 50%, it would say it will take about another 50 minutes to get the phone to 100%. 50 minutes to add 50% seems a tad too long for usb c

My HTC 10 is fine fast charging my S7 so it should be ok.

Well, the main thing is a few months after ownership. Samsung still has the bog down/lag perception a few months into ownership. I'll see if my S7 does that.

Indeed

It really is madness as to which phone is faster. If iPhone is faster by a sec or so does it really matter? People shouldn't be spending 800 on a phone based on speed alone. It's the whole package and what it brings.

Would people not buy the iPhone if it was slower than another device? Of course not. So why should it matter the other way around?

I guess everybody is different but I had my S7 edge for about 4 months and was still as quick as the day I bought. Which is why I don't see any issues with my note 7 for the same reasons.

I haven't owned the S7/S7 Edge long enough to say that, but my S7 Edge ran the same without any noticeable differences. There are a few hiccups here and there, but same with iOS and the OP3.

What makes me wonder is if this is just techies being into the #s too much or if they're being nitpicking? If the time to open up apps were noticeable, I would complain. So far, my S7 hasn't disappointed. It does get warm from time to time, but I just ignore it now. My family likes their Samsungs ranging from the S4, Note 5, S7 Edge, S7, and Note 7.

I own an S7 Edge. I've found so far it's actually faster than the Note 7. I was in love with the Note 7 upon first using it. As I've spent more time with it, I'm less impressed. I like the look of the new TW, I love the design, and I want to love the features. But lag and stuttering is a problem. It most certainly isn't unusable or even bad but you can't help but compare it to the other phones you have and have used. In my case I've been swapping out between an iPhone 6S+ and GS7E as daily drivers. I find both to be faster. Sometimes the difference is negligible. Sometimes not, such as when opening up a media app like HBO Go or Netflix. Note lags bad on those.

I don't know how the US version of the unlocked S7/S7 edge was structured, but yeah that might be the way to go. The only issue is that I will lose valuable functionality like wifi calling, and possibly Samsung pay. I could also flash the international version to my Verizon phone and lose all the Verizon bloat, but also lose wifi calling and such. But at the end of the day it's Samsung that has to take a stand. Even after they release an update, it can take months and months for that update to be released by the carrier.

One thing that came true was my prediction that the edge area would be distracting and not look quite right in terms of things like text on a webpage. There is a slight distortion effect and reflection that makes it look odd on the edges. Putting it up to my Note 5 I feel as if I have to choose having a completely legible screen, or having a slightly narrower device. The Note 7 feels better in the hand than the Note 5 and I think the lesser of the 2 evils is the Note 7's edges.
