Samsung has been the most criticized smartphone manufacturers for almost a decade. Don't think the majority has ever downplayed negatives of Samsung phones.

Pointing out issues is not the problem, the problem is exaggeration. Geeks and tech enthusiasts do have a voice that gets to the average consumers. And those average consumers will think the Note 7 runs at a snails pace, when it's quite the opposite. And with enough criticism being mimicked by those that wouldn't have a clue, Samsung might decide to just completely scrape some features or change something for the worst.

Kind of like how many labeled the IR blaster as a gimmick, and now they want it back. Sometimes exaggeration that gets passed down to average consumers hurts progress rather than help, cause Samsung will think about it's reputation and sales from the average consumer before progress that pleases device geeks. And I really don't want any features to be axed from future Samsung phones just to make it 4ms faster.

What exactly is this based on considering Samsung is the single most successful Android OEM in the States, and possibly the world?

Totally agree with that sentiment. It really seems they can do nothing right sometimes. People just love to hate on the front runner.

The blue one re-started itself last night, was just sitting on the table.. Will be watching a bit more closely for further reboots or issues. Other than that, and a somewhat mediocre SOT (which might be too early to judge right now), it's pretty darn good.

My wife's did that once, she was on WhatsApp and says the app just completely froze, then rebooted. I'm keeping an eye to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'm on the hot seat here because I trash talked her into switching to Android.

Well it's interesting that when us tech geeks complain about something like SD820 instead of exynnos, or 4gb ram, or quad HD screen then we get shouted down that the "average" consumer won't care about those things. So I find it interesting that some think the average consumer will care about this.

For those who said the issue isn't the complaints, but the exaggeration, yes I TOTALLY agree. But who is exaggerating? The videos showing the lag seem legit enough, if they don't measure real world use then I would think some common sense is in order when viewing them. The tests from anandtech and xda are there in black and white, and short of accusing them of fraud aren't invalidated. Once again those results may not matter in relation to how someone realistically uses their phone, or maybe they do. What happens when I try to play a game and my phone only uses one core, and throttles down and I can't play that game? Do benchmarks matter in that case?

Once again nothing is a dealbreaker so far, but I just expected near perfection from an almost $900 phone. Some might say my standards are too high, but when put up against phones at half the price released a year ago I don't think so. Tech specs aren't even the entire issue. Where is Nougat? It was officially released 3 days after the Note 7's official release. LG will have a Nougat phone in a couple of weeks. For being probably the most expensive Android phone in existence and touting its greatness, releasing with an OS of yesterday and a piss poor record of updating doesn't befit a flagship IMO. Yeah I'm a bit bitter after waiting over 8 months for MM on my Note 5.

Everyone loves to hate on the new phone no matter what it is...to be the first to point out something that is wrong. Then there is the obvious troll posts from Apple fans who just want rain on Samsung's parade.

I am all for pointing out defects problems or issues. I have done so myself here in this thread.

But some of these videos comparisons are just pure rubbish. They don't simulate real world use anymore than benchmarks do.
I have an N7, OPO3, S7 edge, 6s+ and do not for the life of me notice one is any faster than the other.
How i use my phones differ from one to the next. I don't take my iphone or OPO3 near my pool or water when hiking, fishing or anything similar. But i can with my N7, S7 edge without fear of them getting wet just as an example.
I can drop a whole 40GB of music/movie on my N7 and S7 edge and know that is on my SD card and not worry about it taking space on my phone.

You can't show that in those side by side app opening tests videos. Who does that anyway? No one uses their phones that way.
The technology in phones today is so good right now you will not notice a difference in everyday usage between them.

Exactly my point. Ever notice whatever the new galaxy phone might not do just perfectly, just also happens to be the exact thing said poster/critic/troll happens to think is a massive, world ending deal breaker? In light of all the amazing things its capable of, that one or two things just happen to be incredibly unacceptable. Lol. But whatevs.

So I've had the phone (T-Mobile version with SD820 CPU) since Thursday evening, now it's Monday afternoon. Been using it heavily for work and I honestly don't see any "real world" difference in "smoothness" between this and the iPhone 6S Plus. In terms of loading apps, sending emails, watching videos, playing games... all have been a smooth experience with no lag. Camera also loads almost instantly from sleep.

I have .5x on all animation scales set in developer settings. Also, after installing all my apps for the first time, and logging into all of them, I ran the systems maintenance tool and rebooted because it was definitely laggy at first. Now I don't have that issue.

My biggest gripe is that Chrome on the Note 7 has been absolute garbage. I don't remember if it was this bad on other Android phones like the Note 7 where it takes forever to completely load a page. iPhone complete loads in a spit second or a matter of seconds while it is still loading on Chrome.

Now comes the long wait to get home. This last job better not give me any complications.

Anyone know how to get iOS like notifications on the screen while the phone has AOD on? My wife was complaining about this today, she likes the notifications the iPhone gives her while it's off. I do see the icons for notifications in the AOD screen, but she wants the full notification. I agree with her and want this as well. I've been playing around with the settings but don't really see this functionality.

Totally agree. While I definitely have lag, it's certainly not a deal breaker and I will keep the phone. But as I mentioned before I'm not convinced my almost $900 phone should be lagging when phones priced half as much and released a year ago don't. Personally I wouldn't pay almost $900 for the Note 7 given it's issues with lag, carrier bloat, carriers deleting Samsung features, the scratch issues with GG5, not coming with Nougat, locked bootloader, etc. I'm satisfied though with the price I paid and can deal with what are fairly minor issues. Price is a sensitive issue and very personal and I don't blame anyone who feels fully justified paying almost $900, it has a lot of features all those other phones don't have. But damn for almost $900 I was just hoping for the ultimate experience.

This is part of my reason why I'm not getting one. I do think the price is justified, given the specs and what you get for that package. I think Sammy deserves as much respect in the price game as an iPhone does. HOWEVER, I don't feel as if the money is worth it for me. If it was completely unlocked, would get Nougat within the next 30 days, didn't have lag, and didn't have scratch issues, I could see the price for me. But given that I can get an HTC 10 for about $300-400 cheaper that really has no lag or performance issues, or pick up a comparably priced iPhone 7 when it comes out (which I'm assuming won't have too many issues, given the performance of my 6s+ on iOS 10 Beta), I think I gotta pass on the Note 7. Don't blame a single person for loving it and wanting to keep it, but I just don't think I can do it.

Just to add to the lag discussion, in settings does anyone else notice sometimes choosing something is slower than other times. Sometimes I choose something and it takes a good half of a second to load. Maybe I'm jaded but I'd like to see it instantly load, it's not like the hardware specs shouldn't handle it.

Compared to my iPhone se, the se loads a tad bit faster, but that's all. However, once in the app, my Note 7 opens faster. On both, it's fine.

It's only been made available to a select few LG phones in South Korea and of course the new LGV20 which launches soon.

Chrome is slow to load websites on my Nexus 6 running Android N Beta 5 :( (and that's on fast 40+Mbps WiFi).

We all know Samsung devices are such features enriched devices so you prob will experience a little lag, Its hard to compare when you are coming from a 6S+ because that's about the best experience you can have. I was getting a little lag on my N7 and actually just rebooted it for the first time since I had it and can tell a noticeable difference. Its nothing that's going to stop me from using the device though. I can overlook a stutter here and there to have all the features that's present.

Yeah your point isn't unreasonable at all

Lag is disappointing and not something you want to see. Will see when I get mine to see if the issues are there and if an update can sort some issues some are having.

I know one review I saw on YouTube stated he was getting an update already for his phone.

I know the reason article has put a downer on the note 7 but I've still yet to see one review that hasn't said how great it has been even after a good week or usage.

Well granted I've only ever used Samsung android phones apart from very brief stint with ab LG G3. However I've always found chrome to be Rubbish on all the Samsung phones I've used. I much prefer the stock browser.

Ive seen about one review that gave it praises after a week of review. We know all the heavy hitters will be reporting back soon with their reviews any day now. Its not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I do know that reboot I just did helped it alot and I also received an update on Friday night after I picked it up earlier that morning.

How do you get to the developer settings to change that? Couldn't find where to go
Enable Developer options:
  1. Open Settings> About> Software Information> More.
  2. Then tap “Build number” seven times to enable Developer options. ...
  3. Go back to Settings menu and now you'll be able to see “Developer options” there.

All phones lag. It's about acceptable lag/ lag that doesn't interfere with your enjoyment of the device. Hell my iPhone 6S plus just lagged a few minutes ago when I was replying to another post in this thread lol

Just to clarify I want the toast message like iOS has if my screen is off, but in the AOD screen. What happens currently with AOD is my phone vibrates and I get an AOD icon, BUT I don't get the toast notification which is a little summary of the event. So I know I got a text message because of the icon, but I don't know from who or what it says. If this can't be changed then it's an Achilles heel of AOD IMO.

What exactly is this based on considering Samsung is the single most successful Android OEM in the States, and possibly the world?

It's based on their Flagships, not the countless budget models they sell. It also based on competition, which the decision is in the hands the average consumer.
