Quick impressions, I love the design. It feels incredible in the hand, best designed phone out now. It's amazing how small it is for a device with a 5.7" screen. I only wish it had a metal back instead of glass.

False touches are much better, though I still had some when holding the phone a certain way, but it's definitely not as finicky as the S7 Edge.

Performance wise it has been fine, even though I'm download, installing and syncing a bunch of stuff I've barely noticed any lag and it hasn't really gotten too warm either. Battery life has been a little disappointment, but that should settle in the next couple of days.

Loving this phone so far, can see why it's been getting such positive reviews. And nothing is really sticking out me performance wise that i should worry about, even with setting everything up.

One more thing though, screw you at&t, they somehow got Samsung to make the first couple of bookmarks in their browser app to be at&t pages, and YOU CANT DELETE OR MOVE THEM. Seriously, i love the Samsung browser, but i might be going back to chrome if i can't find a way to at least move them to the bottom of the list.

Yeah I hate that they lock down those bookmarks. Here is the workaround I did. It doesn't remove them but keeps them out of sight at least.

- create a bookmark folder called "bookmarks" or whatever you want to name it

- move all your non att default bookmarks and other folders into that newly created folder.

Next time you open the app you will be in the All - Bookmarks folder by default and you won't see the default att ones

Not a perfect fix but out of sight out of mind. Verizon adds the same bs

For those of you on Verizon and want to get Samsung Cloud back (might also work with AT&T but I only have a V phone) here is something I got off of XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-note-7/how-to/how-to-samsung-cloud-t3445627 Confirm it works PERFECTLY and I have Samsung Cloud back.

It seems that Verizon is trying to be sneaky and just hide Samsung Cloud to push you towards them. But it's actually their they just hid the icon.
If you use an app like quickshortcutmaker and you look for Samsung Backup and Restore (com.samsung.android.scloud)
You can create a short cut for it and boom. You can now access Samsung Cloud and get your free 15gb.

No argument from me but likewise, I am only reporting what I'm experiencing in plain terms because I'm not an engineer or terribly technically proficient. I am smart enough to learn and understand many things about computers but some things will always be beyond my skill and education level to grasp.

I just like gadgets. I'm not sure what category of user I would fall into. I'm sure your complaints are valid but I'm just saying I'm the kind of la la la doofus user (by your perspective) who wouldn't really notice unless it starts taking several minutes to open an app. I am from the generation who used to get coffee and a snack while waiting for a Prodigy or AOL page to download on my 14.4 Kbps modem. A few seconds of slowness here and there doesn't really register on my awareness at all. I'm all about using the S pen and figuring out the environment that is so different from what I'm used to. I did play around with stock Marshmallow on my husband's Nexus tablet. It was okay but so much like my iOS experience.

Now you may be from the same generation and maybe the same background from me--or not--either way, clearly you've taken a path I could never relate to. You keep on doing what you feel you have to do to make things better. I'm just saying it's going well over here as far as I'm concerned. I like this blue beast so far. I may not like it in six months for all the reasons other people already don't. I won't know until I give it some time. This is all an experiment for me anyway.

What phone operating system do you like? Sorry if you've already said but I've been reading so many threads and articles I can't keep track of everything.

I remember those days as well as the days of running a BBS off my Apple IIc back when tech was fun and a little challenging you actually felt like you accomplished something just getting your modem working. :D

Right now I have a Nexus 6 that runs Pure Nexus and Elemental X kernel, I have a Nexus 5 that run Maru, and a Nexus 7 that's running nAOSP / Arch Arm without Google services. I've got a build environment setup for the N6 so when N finally arrives I'll build a lowendlinux ROM and then expand to the other mobile stuff.

Tech is just no fun if you can't pull it apart I don't want to be handed an appliance

After re-inserting the sim, I don't know if this changed with the GS7, but with my Note 7, you don't need to restart the phone.

No scratches here.
Interesting link though, there's a screen protector or two that's scratched and that's an issue?

So many users on xda have scratches on their phones (mostly on the back) even when using cases. And here nobody has a single scratch?

Is gorilla glass 5 a faulty product? Scratched phones!
Somebody has one on AC forums too. He went without a case but still not a good early sign when you compare the screen to past models.

Btw in that thread it was from a demo unit so who knows what people were doing with it

Ordered this for the back of my phone. It's a wet application one. They also do one for the front or a pack of both front and back. Will order a front one if the screen protectors I have don't stick well.

Not surprising that a demo unit has scratches. They tend to get bashed up. And if you go without a caae well it's a possibility that you will get scratches. There always has to be a gate when samsung or Apple release a new phone. With the note 5 it was Pen gate and the year before it was Gap Gate. I wonder what gate we will get with the new iPhone lol.

Or speed gate

After all it's the end of the world that the 6s is a few secs faster than the new note 7

Some benchmarks and software version. I've been very pleased with the performance of my note so far. It did benchmark pretty high compared to some of the reviews I've seen, not sure if I got lucky or if the software update did something.

I am sure you haven't YET, if it wasn't a issue no one would be talking about it? Take off those rose coloured Samsung glasses ;)

Thank you very much. That worked perfectly.

Wow that's cool. Sounds like you're into what my husband would be if he had just a little more time. He hasn't even had time to play with Android in the last three years so I was shocked he was willing to get the Note7 on BOGO.

Hey, my husband still has his Apple IIe set up in his office and running and he and our 11 year old are still playing games on it from time to time! We both always wanted a IIc. I remember staring at pictures of it in magazines. But I couldn't even afford an Atari or a Commodore 64 until they started appearing in discount bins.

That's when my dad bought me an Atari 800 XL with the hard drive and the printer for college--they were on sale at Zayre. I tried to program for it but I wasn't any good. It was no Apple and I was not even close to the level of skill most of my friends who had PCs in high school were. Then my mom got sick and life changed drastically and I had to take that path to where I'm at now where I appreciate the experience others build for me but can't do more then minimally alter it myself. Maybe when the nest is empty I can try one more time. I'm really loving the Note 7 but maybe at some point I'll pick up a Nexus cheap and experiment on it.

Yeah But its only a small Curve in comparison to the s7 Edge. I will give it a Try.
Let us know how those turn out on your Note 7 :)

I love his reviews....he just tells you how it is......no sugar coating it. Then he buys all of his own phones so no obligation to give a good review.

There has got to be a SW issue somewhere in the system that single core is within spitting distance of the iPhone..

Maybe it's a bug in the storage controller?

My biggest gripe is that Chrome on the Note 7 has been absolute garbage. I don't remember if it was this bad on other Android phones like the Note 7 where it takes forever to completely load a page. iPhone complete loads in a spit second or a matter of seconds while it is still loading on Chrome.

Chrome is having issues lately. Their Win10 client is also now inferior to Firefox.

Well reading the performance related threads on XDA i think it's clear there are some software issues going on, whether it's a bug in the power management that is throttling the devices far sooner and more aggressively than they need to. The fact that the S7 & S7e are smoother with the same SOC has to point to software - unless as you say there is a hardware issue with the new fast storage controller they introduced with the Note 7.

The problem is however that Samsung are not saying anything. If we had an acknowledgement of some software issues and that fixes were in the works - it would be far more reassuring and advantageous than a wall of silence that leads only to speculation and conjecture. Their PR team needs to have words with their engineering / software teams and sort it out as these issues with software and the GG5 scratch issues are marring a release that should have been very positive.

Do we really need hacks to get around bookmarks for AT&T and Samsung Cloud for Verizon? Why isn't Samsung resisting these things at least a little? :(

The interview they did with the Verge it was clear that they prioritise Carriers over end consumers, but given it's the carriers that really push and sell these phones on mass it is simply not in Samsung's interest to resist carrier demands - even if it is in the interest of the end consumer. It's just economics, and given other than Apple they have the android phone market pretty sewn up compared to the other android OEM's it's hard to argue it isn't working for them.

But you could also argue that their dominance in the Android space would make it much easier for them to deal with carrier BS.
