So you want to return your S7 because of all the issues with the exploding batteries? How long ago did you buy it?

Maybe about 30 days ago, but it was through a private seller on Swappa.com. The seller is a good guy, but idk if I want to do a charge back because that feels like a scummy move.

That association is going to be really hard for Samsung shake. I mean, cell phones exploding somewhere in the world are somewhat of a normal occurnace. But from now on, any one of the explosions is going to reinforce the notion of Samsung phones exploding, and any stories of an exploding phone will automatically be assumed Samsung.

Oh I remember how EVERYONE thought the Toyota Camary was done. DONE! People died! So how were their sales in that very year and the following years? Is it even around anymore or was the a rebranding? Again, clear thinking. People talking like it's a FACT the Note line is dead and needs rebranding, or will be rebranded is just plain ignorant or wishful thinking.

It's quite logical to discuss a rebrand after a debacle like this. Ignorant? Hardly. You seem to be under the impression people here want to see the Note line disappear. What good would that do anybody? Nobody wants to see good products fail or cease. Let's not stereotype unnecessarily.

I asked you before: where can I buy the best phone of 2016 currently?

If you don't want to answer because you're ducking the question, it's understandable. ;)

There isnt a correct answer on best, that is a personally opinion and prefernce

You're right. However, he offered what his opinion was and I just wanted to know where I could find the best phone in his opinion of 2016.

is there any real Note7 / iPhone 7 article where they compares the Screen, Camera? most of the web sites are comparing the spec of the devices or click bait videos where there is no real hands on the device.

The only thing I found so far is the CNET article that compared the ip7 pictures to the S7.

I'm still on the fence.

I can only suggest once Note 7 & iPhone 7 is available in stores you go and try them in person. Any article will always be that persons subjective opinion. Even comparison articles are fundamentally concluded based on a subjective opinion. Which is neither right or wrong, merely is what it is.

If you get chance to compare in store about which you prefer in hand and in use it will be far better a personal guide for you.

If a battery explodes in the device it doesn't make a difference if it's the battery part or any other part as the end result is the same.

This is not doom mongering. It's fact.

And the endless repeating there is a battery issue with no mention that these phones will be replaced just like any other product that has a recall is very one sided. But no, let's just keep repeating the same thing over and over again. With no mention of the issue being in progress to be resolved. There is a massive difference in the mood in this thread compared to what you read from most of the tech community in their reviews like Erica Griffin's. When the only picture you paint is one of doom, yeah I would call that doom mongering. Then you got people like Lisa, John, Flossy and many others addressing the issue just like myself. Which is, I'm keeping mine and waiting for the replacement, because it's still one of the best phones. Simple.

Your not being objective by any stretch. Your being overly defensive to anyone's critism (seemingly taking it as some personal affront) and then utterly blasé about the issue. ("It's not the phone exploding, it's only the battery")

If this was any other company and particularly a fruit company I am sure your posts would be very different in the matter.

As for no-one mentioning these will be replaced ? When has anyone here said they would not be replaced ?

What there hasn't been is clarity on when they will be replaced?. Indeed as I mentioned earlier it seems here Vodafone are not replacing any Note 7, they are simply refunding customers and undoing upgrade contracts.

The talk of sending out an OTA update to reduce battery charge or deactivate/blacklist devices suggests this may take longer to replace those handsets than first estimated given how long it takes to roll out OTA updates generally. What folks need amidst increasing reports of more devices failing is clarity / precise dates and resolution, and at the moment there is very little official clarity or co-ordination between Samsung and carriers.

We have praised Samsung multiple times in how quick it was to initially respond and withdraw the device from sale, but since then there has been a mire of official information and a lack of coherent plan to address ALL Note 7 owners. So yes Samsung were quick to respond, but that has to be followed up with a cohesive plan of action, and for many users that simply hasn't materialised.

Likewise the murky issue of those users who bought privately, imported or via classifieds - left in a Limbo state is not good. Samsung need to take full ownership of the issue and replace those devices too, however the feedback of users who have contacted Samsung directly to try and do this has been that they are met with a brick wall of bureaucracy (Samsung customer services telling users they have to return to their original owners or import sellers - something which is simply impossible or at least inpractical).

I guess you can say the same with Erica and the other reviewers I mentioned. They share my approach and view of the issue.

Bingo! Right back at ya.

Aka, one sided. Only the doom reported here folks!

As for clarity, I've posted screenshots of my dealings with Samsung and so far things seem crystal clear for me.
Bottom line, my opinion on the damage this will have on Samsung and the Note line is based on how the market has reacted to other very publicized DEADLY recalls of products that require a much more sizable investment from the consumer, which is the purchase of a car, in particular, the Toyota Camary. What are you basing your opinion on?

I think discussing this with you is pointless. Your opinion is fixed as it was always going to be based on your post history. I won't waste my time any further discussing with you, it serves no purpose.

I don't disagree and I intend to go in store to compare the ip7 with my Note 4 tomorrow. Last Monday, I went to the Apple store and spend some time with a 6s. I tried to compared the screen by watching the same videos (Star Wars Rogue one) on both device. I preferred the colors of my Note4, the black level looked good in the Apple store. When I got back home, I compared the same video (SW: Rogue one) between my N4 and iPad air2. I almost find my ipad to be unwatchable. I often watch videos in the dark, and the grayish black of LCD drives me crazy. The iPhone 7 colors seems to be better than the 6s but I doubt the black will be any better. Testing the phones at the Apple store is not ideal in my case.

The screen is enough of an issue that I consider selling the iPad. My friend have an iPad pro (9.7). While the colors were popping (more saturation), the black was still grey.

In Canada, the N7 is priced equally to the IP7 and I don't want to put the 7xx$ for the IP7+. The N7 seems to be the ideal phone but it looks like it have the same problems as my N4. When I use the gallery app (photo filters), light gaming (5-10min), my phone gets extremely warm. I also experience some lags here and there. Battery wise I have good results (probably better than the iPhone anyway).

N7:
+screen
+sd card storage
+themes
- lack of Android updates from my carrier

my N4:
+screen
+sd card
+spare batteries
- my GPS is not reliable anymore, sometime it works, sometime it doesn't, when it works the result is random.
- scratched screen
- lack of Android updates from my carrier

IP7:
+ iOS's visual voice mail, which is not available on Android with Rogers.
+ curated apps
+ ibooks
+ iOS updates
- battery is not that great compared to the N7
- screen
- itunes

I mostly want a phone that gives me decent battery life (more than 24h), excellent screen & good camera. I don't play games often.

My daily apps are :
facebook, gmail, SMS, gallery/camera, samsung music & samsung health, S Note, chrome, plex, youtube
My weekly apps are:
amazon, podcast, flickr, google+, vlc

I don't absolutely NEED to change device but my GPS is not working anymore. Also, I pay around 549$ for the device but the remaining portion of the price (and contract fee) is paid by my employer. For me, it's a good opportunity to only pay half the price for a device.

I didn't think you'd answer my question. Your post history made that clear.

I'd much rather trust professional organizations like CPSC and UL to investigate and do the right thing rather than wasting time with fanboys and plagiarist with the silly rebrand non-sense. iPhones, for example, have had its share of lithium battery issues and there was no rebrand.

Until the professionals at CPSC issue a recall it tells me it doesn't deserve the hype of amateurs.

This is an article from 2013 but it still applies with comments from both CPSC and UL.

There are always going to be extremely rare incidents that get blown up on the Internet (on sites like ours), but remember that hundreds of millions of people use flip phones and smartphones every day without incident. The manufacturer, government agencies, and even third-party regulatory companies are all hard at work ensuring your phone – along with most other electronics in your home – remain as safe and reliable as we like to think they are.

Are you nuts bringing in facts and clear thinking in this thread?!?! This thread is all about the doom Samsung and the Note line are in. People here will be shocked If a rebranding doesn't happen. None of them have yet to tell me exactly what they are basing their opinion on, but, hey.... It's the internet. Lol.

To be honest, I think it may be wise to see what promotions are available after the N7 is relaunched. There may be even greater incentives from carriers or a reduction in price.

(Excluding the issues) I personally think the Note 7 is better value for money wise without a shred of doubt (at least here). Here the N7 64gb would be €50 cheaper than the iPhone 7 128 and over €200 cheaper than the 7+.

If it hadn't been for the battery issue, the Note 7 would be a no-brainer upgrade and whilst the iPhone 7 screen may have improved brightness, colour and screen accuracy, if you are used to the Note 4 screen, then without doubt the QHD Amoled will be far more at home than the 10 bit (true tone) LCD. Especially if you do like the punchy vibrant Amoled colours with Samsung's Adaptive Display mode. As good as the LCD has got there will always be greyer blacks than Amoled just by the nature of their technologies. If you use Basic display mode it may be closer.

Outside of screen differences, are you using the stylus or the multi-window features of the Note 4?

If so would you miss them and likewise how would you feel going down screen size by a full inch ?

It's a tough one, instinctively I would have thought the N7 would be more at home and familiar for you, but then sometimes we just crave something good different.

For me I carry multiple androids and iPhone's so I don't feel like I'm sacrificing aspects when, I swap devices because I know I still have access to them, but if your planning on the N7 or i7 being your only device you have to consider if you will miss those features you have become accustomed to.

It's a tough one alright.

The only way the Galaxy Note can become irrelevant is if another company offers a comparably well-rounded product within the month or so window until replacements happen. Otherwise, it's like getting a flat tire which doesn't happen very often and while it's a temporary inconvenience once you pop on the spare tire, get the flat one patched and swapped out it's back to normal. Nobody cries about replacing their car over it so whoopty doo...

Are you allowed to do chargeback? When you buy second hand are you entitled to your money back if the phone isn't faulty? I'm curious as in the UK you can't get your money back from a private seller unless the item is faulty and even then if the seller is refusing to give your money back it could be quite difficult to get your money back.

You could do it, but it's a dick move probably. That's why I am not likely to do it. My best bet is to just get a new phone, sell it, and cut my losses. With that $, I can make my first 8+ months payments with it, so I might be looking at upgrading to the 2017 iPhone even though the S8 will be extremely tempting.
