Exactly. So people that bought from eBay are not screwed, they just need to wait for replacments to become available.
You don't seem to understand why I highlighted 'regional' warranty.
Whilst this may work if they launch an IMEI check / mail-order replacement service in CANADA and indeed for those who bought private sellers within that region (hopefully), there is still the issue of imported devices and other regions where no such system is in place.
Import devices would not be covered by a regional warranty under normal circumstances. So those who bought from eBay sellers or the even the likes of eGlobalcentral/ Clove / Expansys - something like the SM-N9300 or SM-N930F - have as posters have said in other fora (XDA) essentially been told they will have to return them to the original sellers.
What some of us are merely suggesting is that Samsung replace those devices regardless of the 'normal' regional warranty restrictions. We will see if they relax which would be great and a great boon for customer confidence - but so far customers who have contacted Samsung directly themselves have been told otherwise.
Also the current USA process does not have this IMEI checker with Samsung support referring folks to go to their carriers. You are then at the mercy / discretion of the carrier.

Likewise outside of the USA - Samsung has so far relied on users contacting or being contacted by their carrier or samsung (if they bought directly).
This again means currently only users who actually purchased the item from their carrier are getting refunds or possible replacements.
Vodafone here for example are only 'refunding' their customers who bought / upgraded to the Note 7. They are not offering any replacement option at all. You can not 'wait' for a Note 7 replacement, it's refund and resetting of contract.
If you bought the N7 from a private seller who sold their vodafone upgrade and then tried returning it to the original carrier, the carrier is unable to process a replacement or refund as it would be the original purchaser they would refund - not the secondary purchaser. So where does that Note 7 owner go ?
So yes whilst it looks like Canada has some glimmer of sanity with its IMEI check, it doesn't stop the confusion and mire of possible problems in other areas.
That is why we were saying Samsung need to make it much easier to return ALL devices regardless of where and how they were purchased.
Ostensibly they should offer a Note 7 amnesty - globally. That would be the best solution for all customers, and doing so would certainly win some merit points and PR points to counter the negative impact of the recall.
