This thread needs to stop getting derailed with recall news and all the speculation surrounding it. It's a completely different topic that should have it's own thread. This thread is for people who actually have/had/looking to buy the phone. People discussing the use of the phone, people asking questions about the functionality of the phone. Who wants to sift through pages and pages of posts looking for the experience of using this phone? Anything else is just trolling or throwing mud.

The experience of using this phone as it currently stands is this: turn it off immediately and return it. Period. Beyond that, feel free to discuss whatever you wish to. People will join in with you or they won't. Stop trying to control the conversation. Telling everyone that they cannot discuss the Galaxy Note 7 recall in a thread dedicated to the Galaxy Note 7 is the epitome of trolling. You're the one who is in the wrong thread. Start one about the device's performance. Or don't. Stop whining about this thread and anyone in it who doesn't want to have the conversation within your own parameters. Last time I checked you're not a mod and this isn't your forum. You're part of a community and as such others get to discuss what they feel is important about this device. You don't agree? Such is life on the internet. Grow up.

It doesnt need to ask explicitly, because the IMEI would tell them what they need to know about where it comes from (samsung/carrier/region) and they can validate regional warranty based on that.

Exactly. So people that bought from eBay are not screwed, they just need to wait for replacments to become available.

It depends, if someone bought it as their only device, right now they're supposed to power off the device and wait for replacement, however long that is we don't know. So they need to find something else to use in the meantime or risk the device catching on fire.

You don't seem to understand why I highlighted 'regional' warranty.

Whilst this may work if they launch an IMEI check / mail-order replacement service in CANADA and indeed for those who bought private sellers within that region (hopefully), there is still the issue of imported devices and other regions where no such system is in place.

Import devices would not be covered by a regional warranty under normal circumstances. So those who bought from eBay sellers or the even the likes of eGlobalcentral/ Clove / Expansys - something like the SM-N9300 or SM-N930F - have as posters have said in other fora (XDA) essentially been told they will have to return them to the original sellers.

What some of us are merely suggesting is that Samsung replace those devices regardless of the 'normal' regional warranty restrictions. We will see if they relax which would be great and a great boon for customer confidence - but so far customers who have contacted Samsung directly themselves have been told otherwise.

Also the current USA process does not have this IMEI checker with Samsung support referring folks to go to their carriers. You are then at the mercy / discretion of the carrier.

http://www.samsung.com/us/note7exchange/

Likewise outside of the USA - Samsung has so far relied on users contacting or being contacted by their carrier or samsung (if they bought directly).

This again means currently only users who actually purchased the item from their carrier are getting refunds or possible replacements.

Vodafone here for example are only 'refunding' their customers who bought / upgraded to the Note 7. They are not offering any replacement option at all. You can not 'wait' for a Note 7 replacement, it's refund and resetting of contract.

If you bought the N7 from a private seller who sold their vodafone upgrade and then tried returning it to the original carrier, the carrier is unable to process a replacement or refund as it would be the original purchaser they would refund - not the secondary purchaser. So where does that Note 7 owner go ?

So yes whilst it looks like Canada has some glimmer of sanity with its IMEI check, it doesn't stop the confusion and mire of possible problems in other areas.

That is why we were saying Samsung need to make it much easier to return ALL devices regardless of where and how they were purchased. Ostensibly they should offer a Note 7 amnesty - globally. That would be the best solution for all customers, and doing so would certainly win some merit points and PR points to counter the negative impact of the recall.

Uh oh...Looks like the Galaxy 7 Edge might be affected as well?

And this is exactly why I feel there's no escaping the "exploding" battery amongst Samsung devices.

Samsung can "try" to control the conversation as much as possible changing it under a different name. But aaaaaaaanything associated with "exploding battery" and "Samsung" will now be part of the discussion from now on.

I can see it from other people perspective that somehow they can control the conversation by releasing it under a different name. But I'm still under the belief that changing the name will still have the same discussions.

Some might say this is "Blown" out of proportion! LOL.

But in all seriousness, this article states that it happened in May. I think I actually read about this already and I think the phone was punctured, so this could be an isolated issue to be honest. I do agree with you though, perception is reality in the eye of the consumer.

Samsung is releasing an update that will limit a full charge to 60% of the battery now which will eventually force owners to swap them out.

That's a terrible idea, it will drive a lot of the people waiting for replacement note 7s to the iPhone, such as myself.

Well that is their fault and they deserve any repercussion that happens, this ultimately falls on them

It's better than phones injuring people and they get sued.

Yeah, I wish the explosion, Samsung is going to die guys would just stick to the other bazillion Samsung recall threads. They keep making the same tired point OVER and OVER again, yeah we get it Samsung sucks, you win, now please move on.

I've moved on from mine, it gets physically returned in about an hour. I found the QC was missing, hardware issues, lag, a cracked camera lens, and much more. But honestly the recall doesn't phase me, if I wanted to keep the Note 7 I'd take the loaner and wait for them to resupply. I just didn't feel like it was worth my money at the end of the day. Absolutely incredible phone that beats the pants off of virtually every other phone on the market, but it just had too many flaws.

Yeah, because that's what people will be looking to buy, a phone with the defective batteries. Jeez, stop your whining about how much I and many others enjoy this phone. You don't even own one. That pretty much shows why you're here. Let me go to an iPhone thread, and muddy it up with pages and pages of talk about touch disease and error 53. Oh wait, no point, since thats not the intended state of the device. And people who are interested in possibly buying one, won't be going to buy a device that is inflicted with those issues. They'll be buying a device that's in working order and their questions will be regarding that working device. Why would I or anyone else enter such a thread just to talk about a such an issue, when it clearly is off topic from the general thread. Clearly a new thread would make sense. Stop being so bitter that so many of us enjoy our phone and don't care to hear the repeated line about defective batteries. The batteries a defective, they're being replaced. Done. You wanna talk about the effect on the brand? Give your reasons for your opinion rather than talking out of your backside. You think this will hurt Samsung, then back it up with some sound reasons for your opinion. So take your own advice and grow up. Stop your trolling.

They just keep making the same point over and over again. The phone might explode? check. There is a global recall in effect? check. Samsung handled it badly? check. Samsung will suffer financially because of this? check. Samsung sucks? check. WTF OTHER POINT DO THEY HAVE TO MAKE????!!?!?!??!

Already have! And I intend to continue posting in this thread about the recall and the effects it has on Samsung, users, and the Note line to my heart's content! You can try to shut down any reasonable conversation by throwing out the word "trolling" but it ain't gonna work. You'll just have to get over it. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure name calling is against forum TOS, so after a point you gotta ask yourself if continued personal insults against forumers is the way to go in terms of trying to have a conversation. ;)

And yes, people are totally complaining about you enjoying your phone. That's the gist of it.

So this:

Apteligent has released data showing the rough adoption/usage rate of the Galaxy Note 7. As you can see below, that rate dropped sharply after the Note 7’s recall was official. Shortly after that, the adoption rate rose just a bit and then dropped yet again.

The cause for this is obvious. Sales of the Note 7 were stopping, and customers weren’t able to buy the phone. What is concerning here is that after the initial drop, the adoption rate went right back up and by this past weekend, the numbers were the same as before the recall. That would suggest that there are plenty of ticking time bombs just sitting around waiting to wreak havoc.

https://9to5google.com/2016/09/15/n...-note-7-users-arent-exchanging-their-devices/

So this is stupid of people for two reasons:

1) The OEM has stated the device is dangerous.
2) If you really care about the phone and the brand's success, you'll exchange immediately. Each news story of the phone catching fire is another nail in the coffin.

Everyone who is still using a Note 7 is just irresponsible at this point.

Well, I've been so-called irresponsible up to this point. I will however, back up and power down my Note 7 tonight, and use one of my other phones in the meantime.

I'm hoping I can at least get a confirmed date for a replacement by the 18th, or on the 18th I will just go to my T-mobile store and hope they have an iPhone 7 Plus 256gb, in any color but rose. My schedule is pretty tight, but if I quickly stop in tomorrow and they have the iPhone I want, I'll get it.

I really wish the LG V20 was already released, cause I would grab one of those instead of the iPhone. But my time is too limited to wait, and I'm also impatient.

The Note 7 is still the best smartphone of the 2016 IMO. A damn shame faulty batteries messed it up.

I don't see anyone saying "Samsung sucks". Also, nothing anyone has posted has gotten in the way of me enjoying my Note 7, that goes to the battery recall and me having to shut down my phone. Tomorrow it's one week since I shut it down and still have no clue when I'll get another. That's what gotten in the way of me enjoying my Note.

Looks like the only people that care strongly about the battery problems and Samsung's reputation are iOS users. :)
I was expecting to see an article backing up your claim there but it's just an article discussing the recall???

You're right it's irresponsible and if it causes a house fire then the insurance will likely not pay out. I just don't understand why anybody would be willing to take the risk now the understanding of the situation is so widely publicised? If my phone was affected I would be on the phone (land line) to O2 straight away demanding to know what they are going to do about it? They are a distributor after all. I certainly wouldn't be blindly using it just because it's a nice phone. There are children in my house and their safety comes before a 'love' for a device.

This reminds me a little of the VW emissions scandal. I own a 2013 VW Passat Bluemotion and it was recalled. I don't remember other owners trying to ban discussion on it though? Perhaps that's just phone nerds. VW handled it badly to begin with and sales were hit massively, but they are still releasing nice cars and will survive it. My car was re-mapped and it hasn't put me off buying another one. Samsung are not doomed either despite the exaggerations of frustrated fanboys. The S7 is the big seller anyway as the Note is too big for most people lol. Expect to see the Samsung Galaxy S8 XL next year ;)

I've repeated many times, it's irresponsible to use the phone. I've posted my correspondence with Samsung and expext to have my phone replaced. The screen shots are in this very thread. Interesting no comment was made about it. Maybe you were too busy being negative. Hopefully I should get my replacement tomorrow with no issues. All is good with me. Hence my positive vibe. My opinion is based on my real experience. This is what we clear thinkers call facts. You on the other hand, don't have jack to go on, and keep spewing all the negative sensational media reports where any "explosion" is a Note 7. What about my experience that I've been posting, no comment? Or is it only the negative that gets your attention.

An official government recall now. Banned from airplanes, illegal to sell, illegal to import.
Hopefully this will prompt those users who are ignoring the voluntary recall to return their handsets. At least they are promising replacement units by 21st September in the USA.

They should have made this official sooner, but it's better now than any later. This is a good move from a consumer safety point of view.
