Specs mean little when comparing cross platform and reviews are fundementally merely the subjective opinion of someone.

They are neither definitively right or implictly wrong. They are just opinion.

LOL! no comment.

. I'll definitely be looking on swappa though for a nice cheap Note 7 after this debacle is over.

Yeah I'm going to hold onto all my cases and screen protectors in the hope that the N7 dual sim variant will be available on eglobalcentral for similar price the N5 dropped to last year (around €550). Whilst the delay and recall is annoying, if I can wait a few months and get one €300 cheaper than carrier price here it will still be worth a shot. (Plus that near €90 spent on accessories so far won't go to waste). Until then I'll just keep my S7, HTC 10 & 6S. I still have no intention or desire to get the iPhone 7 personally.

I know some will call me nuts, but I honestly think we'll see $300 note 7's (safe ones) on swappa by the holidays. Around the holidays last year it wasn't unheard of to see a Note 5 for $450 on there, and with this debacle I have a feeling they will be cheaper this time around. Although I've been toying with the idea of getting the international version so I can root it and do what I want. The form factor is quite addictive, it's just amazing how they got such a large screen into such a small body. I never thought I'd be able to easily use a phablet with a 5.7" screen easily one handed.

I personally would just take your phone back and wait it out. Samsung said today they will have replacements available Sept. 21st.

I highly doubt it. Some carriers or regions of the US might have a limited number on the 21, but I don't think replacements will be in full swing on the 21.

Before the Note 7 Recall ...
I already planed on buying the iPhone 7 Plus outright. And I sold my iPhone 6S Plus recently with that in mind. Wanted to have a duel setup ... Note 7 + S2 Classic(which I have), and the iPhone 7 + Apple watch 2(never had a Apple Watch before).

Now with the Note 7 Recall ...
I'm leaning towards replacing the Note 7 with the iPhone 7 Plus on my T-mobile JOD, instead of buying the iPhone 7 outright, since it will be the iPhone 8 that's really worth buying outright. And I mainly want to do so for the Apple Watch 2. After several months, I might JOD to whatever Android phones catches my interest, like the V20 or Pixel, and then JOD to the S8 when that comes out.

What's this world coming to when The iVerge criticizes the iPhone 7 and Cult of Mac picks a non-Apple phone as the best.

Mthrfkn A. Absolutely devastating for an Apple devoted site to put out such a cold hard truth review, free of political correctness in answering the question many consumers ask, "What's the best phone out there?" None of that cuddly, the best phone is the one you chose for you. Lol. Just love how they address the battery issue for what is, a simple recall. Nothing more, nothing less. Then goes onto say once the phone goes on sale again.... New respect for that site. Finally, an Apple site that says it like it is. Full credit.

I finally factory reset my Note 7 and turned it off. :(:(:(:(

I did try Samsung Cloud, it takes forever with restoring app data, so I quit that since the phone was getting hot (paranoia set in). But it did restore my home screen exactly how it was. Put 99% of the apps in the right folders, the widgets in the right places, wallpaper, and etc. I had to backup 3 times before I didn't get any backup errors, so I think Samsung Cloud is still sketchy. Hopefully Samsung continues to put effort into it.

I have to agree with the scratch experience. I haven't used my Note 7 with a case since Samsung announced the recall, and not one scratch yet.

Couldn't handle iOS (although, when it comes to tablets..I can't do Android) so picked a Nexus 6P from BB for the interim.

Even though I have pre-ordered the iP7+, I'm much..much more eXcited to hear the relatively quick re-launch of the Note 7 and cannot wait to get my sweaty hands on one again!

I was gobsmacked reading that review.

I thought it was tongue in cheek for a bit, then I realised they were serious!

Anyway, theres hints at my Note replacement in NZ turning up in the weekend.

Can't wait, the old S5 still works pretty good (fortuitous 6.0.1 update just before the Note recall) but I want my Note back, wahhhhhh!

Yeah, all this note talk got me powering it up again. It really is just a beautiful phone and feels pretty futuristic, the bezels are almost perfect. Apple better copy the bezels of this phone for next years iPhone, that is the only sore spot I see in the iPhone jet black's design.

iPhone 7 Touch ID and camera are no longer sapphire contrary to what it says in the specs. Forward to 1:22 and 2:15.

Unfortunate if true. I know Apple says the lens cover is sapphire, maybe the antireflective coating is being scratched then?

I don't think any review needs to state that specifically because that is the fundamental rule of any purchase regardless of what any reviewer says. I've never bought a phone based on reviews or bragging rights. I didn't even bother with the latest iPhone this time around and I'm sure that is sacrilege to a lot of phone nerds.

Wow. And published right in the midst of the recall too. So that's The Verge and Cult of Mac both acknowledging the Note 7 in a big way... My faith in the second coming keeps growing stronger :D @MRU

For me personally, I did turn my back on the Note for a while when the battery debacle started picking up speed. Up until then I had been drooling over Note 7 porn on a daily basis and had finally pulled preordered a black one, but I ended up cancelling the order for fear of getting stuck in some weird recall-replacement loop which might leave me without any phone at all for weeks.

Feeling somewhat disillusioned, I turned my attention instead to the Apple event. And sure enough my love for my iPhone 6 Plus, Apple Watch, MBP + Air and iPad was rekindled by the promises of iOS 10 and Watch OS 3. I even began thinking seriously about getting a 7+.

But now... I'm really feeling that I miss all that the Note 7 was going to bring. And while Watch OS 3 has made my watch twice as nice to use, iOS 10 only felt fresh and fun for one afternoon before it started to annoy the hell out of me. Notifications look bloated and take up too much space. Music controls are gone from the primary Control Center window. And I find it absolutely unacceptable that I can't close all notifications without a Force Touch enabled phone. I mean...buy me a long press, Apple? Please?

In general, I find the whole 3D touch thing to be a not very convincing avenue of innovation from Apple. It's the whole principle of the thing - you have to use additional force in order to accomplish things that basically could have been accomplished with a long press. Or some other much more effortless gesture - like the myriads of options available in Nova Launcher on Android...

So anyway, what's my point? I miss the Note 7. Even though I never had time to actually get one. But I want a phone that feels and looks innovative, and as much as I tried, the 7+ isn't doing it for me. So now I'm back thinking that I'll probably return to my original plan and get a Note 7 when they're re-released, and leave my Apple fix for September 2017. Even though I'll miss the hell out of using my AW...

@ Oohara
I did considerer swapping phones for about 2 days but nothing is more appealing really.

The S7 and Edge seems nice, I know lots of satisfied users but I've been a Note user since Note 3 and love the note series.

I must say, the new iPhone has a great processor and 256gb would be nice as a fixed storage, (not that I'd ever fill it), amount but the hype over the camera is funny :)
A few sites are saying it's the death of point and shoot cameras, not that I don't disagree that they've been dying a slow death for years but 2x optical zoom on a noisy little sensor isn't going to beat most 300 dollar point and shoots, let alone pricier models.
If the iPhone had a better screen, a real file system and no proprietary connectors, I may have tried one but that'll never happen any time soon. I don't care about headphone jacks, I don't use a phone for music.
I don't do LG phones (anymore).
Some of the new Chinese phones are impressive but custom skins with no promise of updates and iffy processors are keeping me at bay.

I guess it's just a phone, they're all just phones but I really like the Note 7, didn't experience the so called lag, totally dig themes, love the design but can't find a good screen protector.

Funny you say the iPhone is dated when it's faster, better camera, better colors on screen, more storage internally, and other stuff that the the note doesn't have. Actually the note other than the screen looks just like the note 5.
This post is the equivalent of trying so hard to hit the ball that you use only force, swing too carelessly, lose your grip of the bat and watch it swivel through the air right into your girlfriend's face.

Read my post again. I didn't say the iPhone is dated. I only reported that The Verge are saying its looks are dated.

And "other than the screen" isn't quite relevant is it when it's precisely the design of the screen that is the innovative element. Of course combined with how it matches the shape of the back to create a symmetrical device, the thin frame this makes possible, etc. A design element which is so significant that it has The Verge bringing it up and showcasing it in their iPhone 7 review. Sorry but I don't think you'll get far saying that the Note 7 isn't a major step forward from the 5 in terms of design.

Yes, it's a sign of things to come but I think you're misreading the tea leaves. Causally mentioning that the phone explodes is precisely what Samsung wants to avoid.
Sure that logic stands being argued for, but I think the real world effect is the opposite. Precisely mentioning it casually - as if it isn't a big deal - is the best help Samsung could ask for. By now most people will have heard about it anyway, at any rate most people who would watch a Verge video, so the news isn't being spread to any fresh ears. What you get here instead is an emphasis of the Note 7 design, being displayed as a superior aesthetic achievement right next to the brand new iPhone 7, while the battery failures basically get dismissed as less important. A full win for Samsung IMO.

Not to mention that the camera isn't better than the camera on the Note 7/S7 from what I've seen....the zoom is defiantly better but 2x isn't amazing.
The Galaxy phone camera had a real 21x zoom years ago albiet in a much much larger body.

The Note seems to capture more detail in low light due to the iPhone's slower lens and the shutter stays open a touch longer than the note, but the iPhone photos look a bit brighter. But there's not many real photo comparisons out there at the moment.

And we're only talking about the plus here.

Dxo mark will let us know soon, and displaymate will also let us know about the screen.
The synthetic benchmarks are impressive.
Apples CPU and software is impressive.

Well the 2x optical zoom of the 7+ camera is something I'd find really useful honestly. But the Note still has the better camera launch system with the double press on the home button. I still find the swipe-to-camera setup in iOS 10 too failure prone. And for me, the quickest to launch camera wins.
