So tantrums we're thrown because folks we're discussing the Note 7 recall in a Note 7 thread. Yet somehow iPhone scratch test which regardless of sapphire or glass still faired a lot better than the Note 7 is somehow a far more 'on topic' discussion ?? ... In a 'Note 7' thread ... the irony is palpable at times in this subfora

For the record, I don't find it on topic.

No damage was inflicted on the lens of the 6S though. And the point is that the 6S did not scratch which corroborated Apple's word at that time while this time it doesnt and Apple invited this level of scrutiny when they claimed it as sapphire.People wont take their word for it
So you're making a leap based on a YouTube video? Care to cite the scientific evidence? I'll believe Apple not a Youtube video. Anyway this should be continued in the appropriate thread.

My Submariner has a sapphire crystal and does have a scratch yet I've looked after it. I'm not sure what else to say? Perhaps it's a crap sapphire like on the iPhone?

Wow, that's what I have a submariner. I've worn it doing heavy construction, exercise, biking, I know I've literally smashed it against rough surfaces a bazillion times. Maybe I'm just very lucky.

Edit: Sorry off topic, let's get back to the Note 7. I officially won't own it in a few hours, but am still interested in the conversation.

My thought on the re-release of the Note7,

I don't see how airlines can lift their "ban" of powered on Samsung phones as there will be no way to tell if the phone a consumer is using is a recalled phone or a replacement phone.

Also, let's say one of these replaced phones does burn up for some reason and it causes property damage. How is the person going to be able to prove that it wasn't a recalled version versus a replaced version.

IMEI
Samsung's currently got a site up for a few countries now where you can plug in your IMEI Number for a check. Wouldn't be surprised if they leave it up until this died down.

The battery indicator will be green instead of white, so that you can show that when boarding.

I dont think airlines are in the mood to check every note 7 to see what kind of battery indicator it has... Easier to allowed them on the plane but powered off.

But how would a steward/ess for an airline check that as you are boarding a plane?

Will first off, I don't think they're gonna check. This will all be forgotten once the new models hit the shelves. But if they do check, it'll happen way before the stewardess, it'll happen at screening.

Maybe Samsung should take advantage of this release the replacements without any logos? Probably not, but one can dream.

Funny you say the iPhone is dated when it's faster, better camera, better colors on screen, more storage internally, and other stuff that the the note doesn't have. Actually the note other than the screen looks just like the note 5.

I assume you are referring to the "speed test" that is on YouTube where some guy runs a few apps by opening and closing them. Only the "first lap" is testing the hardware speed and to me, they are close if not equal.

The other laps are testing how many apps stay in ram, so they can be loaded faster. On iOS, after 3 min, the OS closes those apps (that's why fb app plays silent audio) and they are not still in ram (software issue), that's why the guy does the test as a "race". In real life, people don't use apps like that.

On Samsung's note 7, they have aggressive ram management to close unused apps to save battery. I suspect if they guy went into the settings to "favorite" those apps (so they don't auto close) and redid the test, it would be closer. (Settings -> device maintenance -> battery -> unmonitored apps)

With airline safety, you think the airlines are just gonna forget about it? I see it as staying as if you have a Samsung phone (regardless of which one) it must be powered off while in flight.

Airlines are not going to take the chance of a phone exploding in a pressurized cabin.

At least half a dozen speed tests comparing them already. All show the iPhone 7 much faster.

They don't explode like bombs. They pop and burn. And what does a pressurized (to less than sea level) cabin have to do with anything? It's not an oxygen rich environment.

LiPo batteries have caught fire on airplanes before. Remember all the warnings about hoverboards and drone batteries?

It's not that big a deal, as long as it happens inside the cabin where the crew can handle it.

The real killer batteries are the ones stashed in checked luggage where no one can stop the fire.

They do show the iphone soundly beating the Note in those tests, and good on them for making such an awesome processor but it would only be an issue if that's how we used our phones, opening and closing apps over and over again against a stopwatch.

But we don't use them like that do we?

Most Note users are not going to mind a few extra monents of loading here or there for the other features that they find useful.

Much in the same way as iphone users aren't going to care about screen resolution and such.

I minded the extra time my Note 7 took to do things. It did not affect me functionality, but it sure as heck annoyed me. I do mind the low resolution on my iPhone as well, but it's really more of an issue with how apps kind of cartoonishly blow stuff up in iOS and don't take advantage of the resolution.

I'm glad I don't notice lag like that, I use a Note 5 currently and it seems fine to me

Seems like the iPhone 7's new home button has quite a crucial disadvantage to those of us living in areas where gloves are needed for a good part of the year: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/16/iphone-7-home-button-requires-skin-contact/

It seems like the Note 7 will be a better option for winter use especially when iPhone batteries have traditionally been extra sensitive to cold. However, as the Note 7 will be my first Samsung phone, I can say for sure and compare to my 6s only a few months forward when my Note 7 has (hopefully) arrived and we'll get the actual winter over here.

7 is suppose to be a lucky number but Note 7's Gorilla Glass 5 is more scratch prone than GG4 and, even worse, iPhone 7 jet black takes the cake getting scratches from just wiping fingerprints with shirt. More reason to hold out for the 8s.

So when you claimed earlier that the 6s was water resistant and Apple was the first at water resistance you cited YouTube as source despite Apple not claiming it as water resistant but now that the YouTube videos are against Apple you cite Apple as the source and YouTube videos are not science. You even pushed YouTube as the source when in those drop tests the 6s survived while the Samsung didn't.Double standards everywhere .Nice job

And here is more proof of this. The lens of the 7 cracked on the drop test while the 6s actually held up.I think it's pretty much confirmed it's not a 6s quality sapphire if it is one that is

the jet black sounds like it will scratch if you so much as look at it the wrong way.Unless you don't care about resale value it will drop to zero next year after it faces real world trials.Putting it in a case does sound like defeats the purpose of that finish in the first place so on second thoughts I am not getting this .Whats even the point of this colour
