Well, if it's any consolation, turns out the phone isnt as scratch prone as original thought, jerryrig updates his findings, turns out his original picks were contaminated.

Remember when scratchgate was the big issue?
Goodness, that seems so long ago. I was so young and naive then. :p

There were people insisting they had scratched their Note 7s practically out of the box. So that seemed to corroborate Jerry's initial findings. So I'm not blaming Jerryrig alone for that particular controversy.

Oh might I also add that since this fiasco only happened to throw off Jerryrig's Note 7 test and not his other tests, I think somewhere deep in the bowels of an office in Cupertino, Tim Cook is sticking pins in a Note 7 effigy. Because I have never seen a product plagued with more crap luck. Ever.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Sigh... I'm STILL waiting for one credible source of this apparent story that Samsung have ceased production, everyone is just citing the apparent factory worker who leaked the information to some Korean news paper. No official word from Samsung or any safety authorities which according to Mac Rumours also told them to stop making the Note 7.

Anyone care to find a legitimate source? I haven't seen one yet. No one seems to have asked Samsung either.

Even if it's not credible, there is no way that Samsung can keep production up. ATT is one of it's largest customers and does not want the Note 7 anymore, and the other carriers will fall in line soon enough. The media is ready to pounce on any report, true or false, and this has it's own very negative effect as well. Consumer perception is at an all time low with exploding phone reports in their face constantly.

It doesn't change that IMO the Note 7 is by far the best phone of 2016 and trounces anything else. But unfortunately it's completely doomed.

It's about time they pulled the Note 7! Hell, you can't even buy one on Swappa right now! I had to put a friend out my car the other day because he has a Note 7 that he refuses to return because "it works just fine." That device is a walking bomb. It just pisses me off how people REFUSE to return it...

Isn't this more official ?

A Samsung spokesperson told Android Central:

We are temporarily adjusting the Galaxy Note7 production schedule in order to take further steps to ensure quality and safety matters.

Weird story.

My friends know I jump on most new smartphones out there. They wondered why I did not with this one. One reason was the price but I told them I had a weird feeling about this one (nothing specific) and would wait it out.

They hate when I get these feelings once in awhile, they usually come to fruition.

My mom has that "gift" too. Lol, clearly it's not hereditary! I'm glad you avoided a lot of fuss and bother.

At my daughters birthday party yesterday a joke was made to my brother in law who was taking photos with his S7. A friend of my wife's asked if it was one of those exploding Samsung's? It got me thinking that perhaps a certain amount of public perception is damaged as not everybody hangs around on MR reading in depth articles to get reliable sources. Samsung have a fair bit of positive PR to do I think in the coming months.

No this is pretty much widespread knowledge. My wife is the last person to follow anything tech, but even she comes home and tells me I better return my note 7 before it explodes. The media did a great job of jumping on this one and wringing it out for every last drop of blood.

I'm just suggesting that not everybody who follows tech forums or reads news articles are clued up on model numbers of devices. Unless you have an interest in phones or own a Note 7 I doubt you'd read much about them exploding. It's just loose discussion and word of mouth for some and that leads to incorrect perceptions of a brand.

People are the same at my work and around family.

I think it's going to take a long time for the average customer to think about buying samsung until their rep turns around.

The average customer doesn't see note 7's blowing up...they see Samsung phones blowing up. Thats the issue

I differ in opinion, this is pretty widespread news the media has made sure to report on repeatedly. I hear it pop up from time to time from the most unlikely sources and people I encounter. Just my opinion, it's not like I have a poll or scientific evidence.

You know, maybe I'll just switch back to my Note 5, sure I'll miss waterproofing, the iris scanner, and SD card, but I would miss out on those things with just about any other phone anyway.

Though I do still need to be on an AT&T next plan so they'll cover my phone payments from switching from t-mobile.

It's only today it's been a news headline in the UK so the coverage hasn't been as intense in all parts of the western world. It's been in the background for weeks here so you don't need to differ, it's just more widely publicised in your country it seems.

It's all only temporary, AT&T has not stated they won't sell it ever again, Samsung are telling Europe that the replacement phones are fine, their haven't been any reports of them having any issues here although it's only those who pre-ordered who have them. Despite this two of the UKs operators have stopped selling and replacing it for the moment.
Give it a month and with a bit of luck it'll all be fixed or proven that the replacement phones have no issues.

One would have to wonder is the Note line destined ever to be sold in Europe again....?? At least we can buy it from eglobal or even Amazon, not the Note 7 though of course haha. I'm STILL waiting for my Note 5 gggrrrrr..... I sold my iPhone 7 within 30 seconds of putting it on eBay!

Yah it's probably more sensationalized here, it's on primetime news. Just that Southwest story was major headlines, not just coverage but interviews, analysts weighing in, etc. Trust me, when it comes to blowing things out of proportion the US is the leader of the pack, and viewers eat it up like candy. We also have them released here a lot sooner, not sure when they were released in the UK so it may be less of a safety issue and more of a "hey look at all those yanks blowing up" :)

Maybe, but it seems to me the Note's reputation has been tarnished beyond repair. So the first iteration, and the 2nd iteration had issues, should we trust $880 to the 3rd iteration? I think consumers might be more careful with their money, and even the reps attending them in the stores will probably have input as well.
