Well I'm out, just got back from returning my Note 7 to Verizon. They were great, and said they have heard rumblings of a 2nd recall as well. Other issues cropped up as well, it was doing this weird thing where it would completely freeze for 10-15 seconds and then everything I did in that time would pop up all at the same time, weird. But I'm just not willing to take the risk, even if it's overblown or ends up not being a big deal. Especially with my daughter as she likes to use it sometimes.

Oh well, I'm still bummed as no 2016 phone comes even close. Guess it's time to lay low until 2017.

So they weren't surprised or questioned why you were returning ? Did they give any indication if others had followed suit.

No they weren't surprised, the woman who did my return was talking about the Southwest incident and didn't blame me for not wanting to take the risk. She did not say there were any official statements about a 2nd recall, but it was something that her management mentioned for them to be aware of for customers returning their Note 7's. I thought I was within my 14 days but turns out I was on day 15, but they did not hesitate in the least to process my return with waived restocking fees.

"Based on recent reports, we’re no longer exchanging new Note 7s at this time, pending further investigation of these reported incidents," said an AT&T spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. "We still encourage customers with a recalled Note 7 to visit an AT&T location to exchange that device for another Samsung smartphone or other smartphone of their choice."

Maybe I am late, but my buddy that works at AT&T told me this morning that they stopped exchanging Note 7's. I guess the rumor was true.

Well it happened.

AT&T halting Samsung Galaxy Note 7 sales following multiple fires with replacement phones

http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/9/13219054/att-samsung-galaxy-note-7-stop-sales#comments

I guess they couldn't wait till Monday morning.

"AT&T is discontinuing all sales and exchanges of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones following a number of fires caused by supposedly "safe" phones that had been replaced under recall.

All four of the big US carriers have said they will allow returns of any Note 7, but AT&T is the first to stop sales of the device entirely. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission has said it is "moving expeditiously" to investigate the fires and it seems likely that a full recall of all Galaxy Note 7 devices is imminent.

A Verizon spokesperson told The Verge that the Note 7 is backordered and the carrier has none in inventory to sell. We have reached out to T-Mobile, Sprint, and Best Buy for comment."

Sigh. I don't want another smartphone. They all suck. I just want my money back at this point.

I just got off of online chat with Bella at Google. The pixel phone records in stereo sound! Woohoo! That's awesome. Now I know what I am going to get! Let's just hope my return to AT&T doesn't go wrong.

Pixel, Ugly as sin but cute with a cover. Good enough. I'll miss Samsung's mini ecosystem and Samsung pay like crazy. If they ever get their poop together I'll be back. But it will take awhile to forget all this overheating anxiety. I'll remember my first Note 7 fondly. Im glad my husband enjoyed all of his Samsungs so far.
[doublepost=1476041670][/doublepost]Ps if AT&T makes me take another phone instead of giving me a refund I'll take an iPhone 7. I'll get the pixel on my other line when they become available.

Wooo, I dodged a bullet. I was considering keeping my Note 7 for a month or 2 and see where everything ended up, but seeing this I would have been stuck with it. Kind of odd for ATT to be wishy washy like that, but they must be privy to some information we are not. Will be amusing if they begin to accept exchanges again with new info, then stop them, then begin again, etc...

????? AT&T has said they will allow you to return or exchange it regardless of purchase date.

Yeah I misread that, I thought they were not replacing any Note 7's for other phones at all. On 2nd read I see that they are not replacing Note 7's with new Note 7's, but still allowing them to be exchanged for something else.

As much as I maligned the Pixel, it seems like one of the only decent alternatives, but it's still fugly lol. I thought about one, but if I'm going to get a huge bezeled, overpriced phone I might as well go back to the 7+ and have resale value and no privacy concerns. But I don't blame you one bit. What's your husband going for?

I don't know what he's going for. His football game just ended and he's telling me what our options are. He wants an Edge because he bought wireless charging stands and loves his Gear Watch. He loves his Note7 and his has been working perfectly for him. No overheating. No weird thing going on with streaming music from ITunes and Google Music. I had good luck with my first Note 7 except it had a lousy fingerprint sensor. My next two Samsungs are a bit odd. He says we gotta run now to AT&T.

What video and photographic evidence? A video of a phone on the floor. And their have only been 3 or 4 replacement phones catching fire reported from what I've seen, they recalled around 2.5 million, so for all anyone knows, as Lithium Ion battery devices DO explode, the numbers of replacement devices apparently catching fire could be the expected industry norm and it's only because the first batch were recalled that we have all this overblown hysteria.

I consider official departments to be more reputable then fan websites and American media outlets. If anything the Mac Rumors stories have been more tame then others. Their have been plenty of reports of iPhones blowing up, using official and unofficial chargers. If anyone requests Samsung recall the devices then it will be official, or if we have any reports published by the organisations looking into them.

Meanwhile I'm STILL waiting for my Note 5 from eglobal....
Um, normally there is a report of a phone catching fire every couple of weeks from every country, NOT 5 reports in 1 week from 1 country. Now, surely there are plenty more that go unreported, but it's obvious something is wrong, 5 in 1 week is ridiculous.

I hope these news reports don't somehow stop Samsung releasing the phone on the 28th.

Why do you want this phone? Honestly?

I mean it's a lovely device. Feels great in the hand, looks great, etc -- but it catches on fire. It's not isolated. It's just how it is. Samsung screwed up.

I don't know why anyone would want this phone. It's not like buying an iPhone 4 and not caring about the antenna issue because you're gonna use a case on it anyway -- this is willfully purchasing a proven unsafe device and being upset that the "news reports" about the device being defective and DANGEROUS would possibly stop Samsung from releasing the phone. Come on.

Great timing for me.

I still had my original Note. I had ordered a iPhone Plus and was waiting to receive that until I returned my Note.

I just received my iPhone Friday. Going to box this thing up and return it Monday. I liked it beyond the fingerprint scanner and will miss some of the features. When I first got it, the first couple of days it got extremely hot charging, but it's been ok since.

I didn't like the way Samsung handled the recall. They really weren't doing us a favor giving us a replacement. It was a way of trying to keep us with Samsung, as opposed to purchasing another brand. I felt the $25 was insulting.

Like I posted on another thread I waited an hour at AT&T and when it was finally our turn they told us they could only process an exchange for another Samsung because their processing center had just closed. Sigh.

We can go back tomorrow but I have to get a car out of the shop.

Meanwhile my husband must have hit his head and had the sense knocked out. He wants to keep his until there is a definite recall. And even then he's hoping for another fixed Note 7 to be issued. I told him it's dead and give it a rest.

It wasn't a total waste of an hour. I groped all the phones they had. The LG V20 was sitting there hot as could be. The Galaxy S7 was very warm. S7 Edge was faintly warm. The iPhones were all fairly cool. I played with the LG V20 and it is just not for me. I didnt care for any aspect of it.

Just curious but what did you not like about the V20? Going to check a real one out tomorrow myself.

T-Mobile officially announced on their site and on Twitter today that all sales are now cut off and they are urging everyone to exchange for a different phone or get a refund plus a $25 bill credit to help with any costs this might incur.
