Indeed!

If it doesn't have 6GB RAM, I will be looking elsewhere.

Samsung seem to have lost it with the Note series after the Note 4.

The Note5 was like a recycled S6 with a larger display, and it seems the Note6/7 may be the same to the S7.

I plan on keeping my next phone as long as I have kept my Note 4. I want the very top specs:

6GB RAM
>5.5inch QHD display
>3500mAh battery

Nah, the S6 was extremely flawed. The Note 5 didn't have the same issues.

If the Note 6 isn't 6GB of RAM, it makes the S7/S7E a more attractive option because the price difference will be a factor for users. If you can get the same experience, more or less, for $200-$300, say on a sale, then it makes the Iris Scanner, S-Pen, bigger screen, etc up to choice.

Exactly what I feel if they don't give it 6 gb ram.......I actually will probably wait till next year to upgrade if the above is the case.......the Note series is for people who prefer top of the line specs...a lot of us are gadget nerds so I expect the best.

Call me crazy, but I really don't think that power is necessary on a phone in the slightest. In the eyes of most people, and me, things that make a phone good are portability and ease of use, along with being able to perform tasks. Just my opinion.

I don't understand the whole 'power user' genre of phone users. I try doing tasks on a phone and I find it too limiting, especially as a result of space, even with big phones. I'm not sure if it's because I use a tablet for most everyday tasks, which by the way I strongly encourage. Never on my phone have I felt the need to run several apps at once, or play intensive games.

Just my views.
The power is needed as Samsung is branching out into VR territory. With Oculus claiming it will push games to the new Gear VR, the Note 7 will need to be able to handle the workload and will need to have certain hardware and be able to do certain things. USB-C and additional sensors to track a person's movements in real time. i.e. Walking around in a virtual space. Right now you are limited to one spot. BT 4.2 for hand sensors or joysticks of some sort. Low latency is key.

Extra RAM may or may not be needed, but more can't hurt.

It was ... it's now Samsung's only other flagship line and given they have reduced the amount of devices they put out each year flagship wise, the Note is merely an extension now of the galaxy line. We saw that in Europe last year, and with the decision to go with the edge on this year's note 7 and change its numbering scheme to bring it in line with the Galaxy S, it's clear Samsung are catering to the wider commercial market now ...

Likewise this constant drive to add bigger and better specs especially in devices from same year is unnecessary. Software and overall user experience / functionality should be the main separator of the devices, not just the SOC underneath. You are getting a bigger screen, a digitiser and stylus, so there are still hardware changes.

Even if you get a snapdragon 820 and 4gb ram, it's not like your getting old specs, they are still top of the line 2016 specs.

For Samsung's profitability, the Note has to be a wider commercial success and not just a device for a niche crowd who are spec whoring ...

Well the note series was always built on power, like a high end gaming desktop. What's nice about that amount of power is how well VR runs. I k now VR is a niche, but it's an amazing niche and one of the things I look forward to with the Note 7.

Samsung needs to make the Note about the Note and stop comparing it with the S line.

bring back the removable battery, IR blaster and use the damn Snapdragon it's easier and better to root.

Things I Expect:
- 6 gig of Ram
- 4k display
- dedicated camera button
- mute button on the right side
- IR blaster
- more high-end S Pen with programmable functions
- flat screen variant

If this doesn't happen I'll just stick with my Note 4

Agree and disagree on some part....

No need for 6Gb of ram....
No need for 4K display......except for VR and that is useless for the Note line
love to have a dedicated camera button...but can't you use the volume rocker or voice?
love love love to have a physical mute button too!
Ir blaster is nice
There is rumored to be more S-Pen functionality
I want a flat display model too!

Well now the 821 is out and will be in other flagship phones this year. And it is not exactly spec whoring to be disappointed by the implementation of the 820 in the S7. There are pretty decent differences in real world performance. This could have been improved in the Note line:

PhoneArena-battery-test2.png

  • The global (Exynos-based) Galaxy S7 is, on average, over 71% more efficient than its US (Snapdragon-based) twin;
  • Our own test shows a delta of over 62% between the Exynos and Snapdragon variants of the S7;
  • The Exynos 8890 in the S7 is also more efficient than the Snapdragon 820 in the HTC 10 and LG G5;
  • When it comes to audio playback, the Snapdragon 820 is only slightly behind;
  • The Snapdragon 820-based Galaxy S7 is the least efficient of the bunch;

it may come in handy if they stick to only an edge device. That extra edge does need a good amount of RAM in order to run as smooth as possible.

Is there a need for a 4k display? No but Samsung will need to make the Note the top specced phone again and have some features other than the S Pen to make the Note line standout again.

What disappoints me if the specs are the same, then there was no reason to wait until end of summer/fall release. They could of released it at the same time with the s7/s7 edge, instead we wait for months for the same specs. If chip design is at the point where we won't see the tock cycle in the fall anymore, then they should just release both phones at the same time.

I think it's clear Samsung need two intervals in order to keep themselves in the headlines and being talked about during the year otherwise they would exist in April and by August the launch window and bubble of momentum would have wained and then they would face 6 months of meh! period.

2 major launches, 6 months apart essentially create a constant buzz for Samsung products.

Yes I think they could launch the Note alongside the S in April, but think it's vastly more sensible as they have demonstrated to keep them seperate so there is always that something we expect to come from Samsung. It's just marketing common sense at this time.

Agree with you and @Fernandez21. They could release both models at the same time. But they need to space these releases out so they make sense from a brand perspective.
Then it is much easier to manage and market the product releases if done separately. They can separate and get maximum exposure from two flagship releases then combining them into one. They want to keep up the marketing so the public is always aware of the Samsung brand.

Personally if the specs are the same...I think it is a mistake on their part. They need to differentiate the two brands of combine them into one brand with two release dates.

Maybe next year when they release a foldable phone...they will merge the S and Note lines?

That's lofty indeed. I guess the advantage for Samsung in doing an edge only model is they can charge top tier.

Price of phones in general are getting f'in ridiculous these days.

But I'm not surprised at that price.
Apple and Samsung can get away with those prices. But on the Android side....the competition is going to take away a lot of sales with some very excellent phones with flagship specs but at a lower cost.

Most people interested will wait till Christmas and by then the phone should be cheaper, more big free and rooted.

Non the less it's a steep price and way too much for a phone. The reason the S7 edge is selling more is simple , bigger battery bigger screen . Try holding an edge with the glass back in your hand and the first thought will always be god I must buy a case.

If Samsung releases the Note with basically the same specs it would be a downer. The One Plus 3 is an excellent phone for half the price with a weaker camera and no IP 68 rating.

For me to consider it Samsung needs to hit it out of the park and focus on what the Note is and should be: a top blanket with a S Pen it shouldn't be a design phone with a glass back and other gimmicky features. Hope they improve on the Note 4 fornular.

I think as the market gets more and more saturated even Samsung and Apple might have trouble selling phones at such price tags. Samsung has yet to do something with the edge that's really outstanding.

850 bucks gets you a non retina MBP, XPS 13 almost and these things are real productivity machines.

First real pics!!! My question is do they measure the 5.7" from corner to corner, if so that means we actually LOSE screen real estate to the curved portion. I'd be curious to get a measurement from non-curved corner to non-curved corner and see how much screen we are losing. Also kudos to Samsung for the as expected honking huge logo right smack in front. The rest of it looks blacked out somewhat, the home button doesn't have the chrome but I can't tell but the frame looks darker than the N5. It's hard to tell though, it seems like it has some kind of case on it. Earpiece looks blacked out as well. Overall beautiful phone except for the obnoxious logo.

It really is time to get rid of the front logo.....
I really hope they release a flat display model too.

Why is VR useless? I absolutely love my Gear VR and the amazing things I can do with it. Granted it's a niche market, but it IS the hot topic of today and from what I understand the Gear VR is in the hands of more than a million consumers, and most likely growing with the success of the S7 series.

I was hoping for hope for something subdued, maybe a dark grey/silver logo with the black front. At least they toned down their usual gaudy chrome highlights, that makes a big difference. I'm curious about the back as the rumors say Samsung is putting some kind of design in the color, I'd rather just a solid black.

Might have worded that wrong....I meant that a 4K display is useless for anything other than VR. To me it doesn't make sense to make the Note 7 with a 4K display that will only be useful for the few that use VR. The battery life costs of the 4K display outweigh it's usefulness for the few that would use VR on a Note model.
