so the famous MRU will be passing on the note 7? ;)

Honestly as much as it surprises everyone else, I genuinely feel like I will be definitely be passing on this one based on what we have leaked so far.

But like I say the iPhone leaks, and even nexus renders both leave me cold too.

It's like someone doesn't want me to buy a new smartphone. I don't think it's God, unless he's taking orders from my bank manager & accountant :p :D

do you still have the note 5?

I get your point as I find I don't use the edge loads but do enough to not make it worthless. I use my iphone as my daily driver but when I used the s7 edge I used people edge daily so maybe if I went back to my edge as my daily driver it would get more use.

I miss having the S pen which is why i'm leaning towards the note 7 instead of the iphone 7 plus. Havn't had the note since the 4 and do miss it.

No I don't have the Note 5 anymore. I still have the S7 edge but have only really been using it for Netflix on Gear VR. It's not that I don't like Edge features, I do. For me I get too many false touches, or times where the screen stops responding and then I realise despite trying to grip / hold the device without touching screen, a tiny portion of flesh has made contact and it stops the screen from responding / scrolling etc. To be honest its a pain holding it landscape watching media too, I've dropped it onto myself way too many times.

So that existing issue I have with my S7 edge, and the other concern for me which would be the S-Pen and and Edge screen, let alone holding a device with the edge and trying to use a pen too and getting the grip right, just seems like too much effort. A concern a flat screened Note would immediately alleviate.

So yeah, if it's edge only. Then sadly it means no Note 7 for me.

If we had something like JOD then i'd be tempted, however I would likely have to pay full what €849 if I went for one ...

It feels strange to be in a place where I don't have any major desire for either the new Note or the forthcoming iPhones. I feel like I'm in Smartphone limbo.

I always buy mine outright. But as I said, from the Note 7 on, I'll be doing a new device every 2 years. I love my tech, but these things are so good now, I could easily be satisfied for 2 yrs.

part of me wonders how the s pen works with the curved screen. Unless they are bumping up the screen size to make up for it. Although it's only 5.8 so not a huge bump for the curved edges

I suspect logically Samsung will simply frame content / input areas on the Samsung specific S-Pen apps within the flat surface area.

The issue however could be for third party apps such as Corel's Paint or Sketchbook which don't take account for the edges. If there are issues, it may depend on developers adapting apps which may or may not happen.

I imagine thats what they will do i'm sure but as you said 3rd party apps is a different story.

Will see when it's out I guess. Interested by what storage options it offers. I've heard 64 GB as the base storage.

So, it's official: August 2nd.
Moved forward a little from last year, which was brought forward itself.

Gives retailers a nice buzz marketing period of few weeks with Note 7 and Samsung's marketing muscle, followed by Apple in late September, early October (for those not in the initial launch countries).

We're going to be seeing sooooo many adverts from Samsung & Apple in the next few months and leading up to Xmas.

What disappoints me if the specs are the same, then there was no reason to wait until end of summer/fall release. They could of released it at the same time with the s7/s7 edge, instead we wait for months for the same specs. If chip design is at the point where we won't see the tock cycle in the fall anymore, then they should just release both phones at the same time.
Agree, I'm not waiting all this time for just a S-pen......

Well that is iris sensor confirmed. Guess that will be the main selling point.

The price is making me reassess whether I'II need a new phone or will I keep my Note 5 and wait for a price drop.
According to some here, the price should halve within a few months, lol, if only....

I'm not paying NZ 1500+ for a phone.
Hopefully it's just a European price, I can't see them selling many at that price point here, there's too many other phones at way better price points. If anything, the S line might sell more.

Iris Scanner? That is their selling point? Really? In my book, a complete fail. Like the edge screen on Note. Honestly, i find samsung phones one of the worst in Android world. I know a lot of you won't agree with me, but this is simply my subjective point of view.

But the Note series is only thing from samsung I always liked. And even bought and used. Now with the edge screen I have no intention of even trying out the device, so I don't really need to mention that I won't buy it. Note 4 is the best Note till date. At least to me :)

But Iris Scanner? Lol? What will that be used for? Fingerprint is not good enough, so lets put something else in there. Does anyone need it? Nope. But let us put it in there just for the sakes of showing something new.

And I bet a lot of you guys would love that samsung focused their time in getting their most used functions even better, faster and more fluid. Better that then putting in new stuff that most of us will never use. But ok, thats just samsung being samsung I guess.

I can't really disagree with you, I have mixed feelings about the curved screen and am not sure if I'm buying it yet. I'll make up my mind when I can put my hands on a demo and see how bad the curved screen is going to be, but I definitely consider it a downgrade. The iris scanner is a gimmick also, but hey people like gimmicks and gimmicks sell.

I definitely would have preferred a Note 5, with a slightly larger 5.8" flat screen, slightly better proc, 6gb RAM, UFS 2.0, UFS expandable slot, and a larger battery without changing the thickness or maybe even slightly thinner and a USB C connector. Do I want to pay $900 for what in some ways is a downgrade from my Note 5? I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll just wait 2-3 months and grab it for $600 on swappa.

I like the uniformity with the name skipping a number, but they should have done it last year since the big redesign was last year. It could have been the S6 and S6 edge, and the Note 6.

It would be so ironic if Apple changed their naming convention. Still looking forward to seeing how the Iris scanner will work, though.

The Iris scanner will be one of the features not the main one.

We don't know what else they are adding. I'm sure some of the S pen features will be impressive. None of that stuff has been leaked at all.

I know having a curved screen won't down completely for some but I think curved displays are going to be the future going forward. It's rumoured to what the iphone 8 will include.

I'm sure alot of the features that the S7 edge has will be in the new note and then some. So either way It will be a beast of a phone. Moving to USB Type C as well.

I guess I will keep my iPhone 6s Plus AND my S7 and wait till 2017 phones.

Disappointed in Note 7 leaks (and iPhone 7 leaks for that matter). Especially with no spec changes.

I just am not a fan of the edge screens. I had the s6 edge plus last fall and returned it. I love my s7. Just wish battery life was a little better (it's not bad). But could be better.

Play with the settings, download greenify, or go with the S7 Exynos over the Snapdragon variant if possible. Just food for thought.

Speaking to reporters in Seoul, Koh said: “We have improved ‘note’ functions this time, upgrading software for user convenience.” This means that the flagship is going to have new software features and the S Pen is likely going to learn some new tricks as well. Koh will take the stage on August 2nd to unveil the Galaxy Note 7.

I assume all that has already been shown with the Grace UX beta:

Although perhaps there are some tricks saved for the Note 7 exclusively.
