And now a full set of pics. I'm hoping it's all black like these pics.

Comparing those to pics of the S7 Edge, I again wonder if the N7 screen is quite as curved as the Edge screen. Edge owners, what do you think?

It does look like the edge display is not as pronounced on the pics of the Note 7. It looks like there is more phone to hold onto. That would help eliminate as many false touches as there are on the S7e.

Looks the exact same to me. I'm holding up my S7 Edge to the picture.

So I do like the edge displays, I think my GS7E is very cool. However my problem with tiny bezels and capacitive buttons is that you're left with virtually no real estate on the front of the phone that doesn't generate false touches.

I'm sure even if there are less false touches that would be good. Maybe they realise this. Maybe the larger screen helps. Will see when it's out I guess.

Well I am 99.99 % sure this will be my next phone, every two years I pass my current phone down to my son and I typically get the new iPhone. However this year i am making the switch to android and the Note 7 looks like the one for me.
I currently have the 6 + and it has been a great phone but I need a headphone jack and it sounds like the new iPhone will not have one. I have been wanting to try android for a while so this looks like the phone to make me change.

Oh, I see!

Hm, yeah, I suppose that can look like less edge screen. Maybe it's more of a 2.5D screen.
I fear it's still properly curved but hopefully a little less than on the S7e. But maybe I'm seeing what I want to see... I'd really hate this phone to be spoiled by unnecessary edge design. I've held on to my 6 Plus for two years but now that I'm allowing myself an upgrade, the iPhone 7 just doesn't seem very exciting. And so the Note series has my blood pumping again... Argh I can't wait for the unpacking so we can finally see exactly what the damn thing looks like.

Yeah, I'm not sure I follow why Samsung is releasing an Edge variant of the Note -- just cause they can? I don't know. I guess they can't leave out the edge screen/features for the Note series since it's their other flagship. As long as there are two variants, I guess it's okay. For note taking (and general S Pen use), it would seem to me the flat screen would make the most sense.

We'll see. Looking forward to the keynote, too. Even if I don't have plans to own a Note, it's still exciting to see what Samsung does next. And it might point to features in the S8 in 2017.

I think samsung see curved displays as the future of tech. I think the curved display won't be as the S7 edge but will see in august. I think the bigger display helps with this.

As i'm sure samsung have thought about how to use the s pen with the curved display and there must be a way around this

I think you're right. They see the curved display as the evolution of displays on smartphones. But there are times when a flat screen is beneficial. I am hoping the curve is not as pronounced on the N7 as that pics seems to show. Can't wait for the keynote in a few weeks. I hope they have them available immediately too.

I heard they will be available to buy right after the event ends

Also, curved displays help make the device footprint smaller, allowing for phablets to become more manageable in the hand than ever before. The S7 Edge makes the iPhone Plus footprint look laughable.

It's crazy holding the S7 edge compared to my 6s plus. The edge is certainly one handed use for most tasks. Just great for this

Even at 5.8 inches I'm sure note 7 will too

Wow. This is impressive. Even better than Apple, no? Has Apple ever had same day release as the keynote? I know it's always close, but never same day, right?

Either way, nicely done on Samsung's part. An annoying part of most Android OEMs is that they announce an attractive device, but don't make it available for weeks/months.

If it truly will be available after August 2nd launch event, then people need to accept what we have seen so far is well and truly locked down. Reality check and avoid dissapointment. It will be the Snapdragon 820 and there may possibly be exynos for Europe / world editions. 4gb ram. Most stable version of android right now as software will be finalised at this stage, so Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. It will have an edge, it will have the Iris scanner. Battery looks like it will be 3750 mAh, possibly 4000 mAh. 16mp rear, 5-8mp front camera. The Grace UX Touchwiz software we have seen already ported to the Note 5 in the videos.

Its a really nice handset or looks to be. At €850 it will be around €100 less than the iPhone 6S+ (and presumbably 7+)

I think the battery chances are will be 4000 as it's very unlikely it has the same battery size of the edge. Normally the note has the biggest size.

having it available right after launch is a big step up. Guessing it's available from samsung site only

I can't remember the last time the re was an announcement and same day availability. But I like it!

Then as @MRU points out...that means the leaks so far are pretty much what we will see. Since they will have been in production for a few weeks already to have product available on announcement.

Very good point in there about the Olympics advertising. This event is 3 days before open ceremonies. One of the biggest advertising driven telecasts in sports. Saying available now is much better than xx.xx date. Could be the whole reason for accelerating and the smaller differentiation from the S7. Its all about the sales of course. And a majority of buyers will see the commercials and just want the latest.

Prepare to see lots of commercials, galaxy notes in the hands of reporters...... ugh. And I thought the S7 commercials were beyond annoying with repetition.
