What I personally think / hypothesise.

Samsung was working on a edge Note 7 along with a flat Note 7, however somewhere along the line decided to go with the edge model only.

Hence the case leaks and colour leaks show the edge model only, with the Galaxy Note 7 clearly marked on the back.

It's unlikely they would call the flat version 'lite' or anything else, if they were to release two, it's likely the Note 7 Edge would be the one with the name difference. (edge prefix)

So I do think we will see ONLY an edge Note 7 and then after the launch I bet we will hear the same made up nonsense from the press/media/bloggers that they may release a flat version in a few months time (much like how they all reported that Samsung was going to release the Note 5 in Europe Christmas, then Q1, then Q2, but of course it never materialised as it was just made up).

I agree. And I can't help thinking that Samsung is making a mistake. I'm sure the curved screen on the Note 7 will lose them quite a few customers who were holding out for either the Note 7 or the iPhone 7, who are used to waiting for that time of year to get the latest and greatest - with a flat screen. Now many of those people will get the iPhone. I will probably be one of them. Samsung has no alternative for me.

The weird thing is that they choose to make the Note curved so soon after releasing the powerhouse that is the S7 Edge. I'm sure new customers drawn to the curved screen during the coming fall would still happily have bought the Edge, even if the Note had been flat. They're cannibalising their own sales. Now all they'll get is one and the same group of customers interested in the S7E and the Note, and the rest turning to a competitor because it's curved or nothing with Sammy this year.

Part of me won't stop hoping. For a flat Note, or curves that turn out to be so small that they won't bother me. But I know I'm being naive.

I'm right there with you on this one. The edges look amazing but the distortion in the screen drives me nuts. I'm still hoping for a flat version too but it seems unlikely. I'm even considering the note 5 if they don't have a flat note 7. Wow am I really that put off by the iPhone 6SS plus? Here's to hoping that Sammy and apple surprise us but I won't hold my breath.

Curved or not I think this will be the best device of the year. I get those who would not have the edge but as somebody who uses the edge features I'm rather looking forward to what it brings

Will see how the curves would work with the s pen

I totally understand some of you wanting a flat Note, but dang, I'm really looking forward to my curved screened Black Onyx Note 7 with carbon fibre skin on the back and nothing else. This is gonna be the longest 2 weeks ever. :)

The issue is that NO one is putting out a smartphone with a viable stylus/digitizer. If that functionality is what you need then you only have one choice, and I'm not counting the 1 or 2 atrocities that do have styli out there. If I didn't have any need for a stylus I'd honestly be hard pressed to answer why the heck I'm spending $900 on a phone, no scratch that I'm am hard pressed to answer that.

Well, maybe the flat one will be called the Note Classic? If there is going to be a flat one, it's the only monicker that fits.

Looks gorgeous. I used an S7 edge and a standard s6 today. Sigh. The edges weren't as bad as they were yesterday lol Idk maybe I can get used to it. I'll probably end up trying the Note. The only other choice is to get the standard S7. Or the 7 plus of course. But I really want to gif Android another shot.

That blue is nice but flawed by the two tone silver frame. I'm really digging the black one since it has a black frame.

Sigh I was just thinking today, it's going to be 8-10 months before I see Nougat on this phone.

What do you think are the chances of Gorilla Glass 5 making it's way into the Note 7? Or is it too late?

Likely Too late. Remember this has been in production for a number of weeks already (if we see an august 2nd release) and therefore the hardware was finalised long before that as well ...
