Well...poop. I was looking at the unlocked options on the S7 and S7Edge and some reviewers said it can't work on AT&T 4GLTE but one reviewer said it could if you took it in to the AT&T store and they did something, but he didn't specify what.

I'm not sure there's any point waiting for an unlocked version of the Note7 if it won't work fully functional on the AT&T network.

If I were to get an unlocked version down the road if they release one, where would I get the updates from?

Basically I'm drawn to the camera. I've heard Samsung does great cameras. I've seen it for myself. I have blonde hair and iPhones turn my hair a weird green-yellow tint and Samsung cameras leave it plain blonde. That was one draw factor...I'm tired of looking like I'm the victim of a heavily chlorinated swimming pool.

The S-pen also seemed pretty cool when I played around with the demo in Best Buy. That's why I was leaning toward a Note. But Best Buy has some sweet deals on unlocked S7 and S7Edges--I'll keep my options open to them, too, and possibly Nexus or any bloat free options with good cameras.

We just got a Samsung Smart TV and were blown away by how smart it actually is. Talk about "it just works". It really works and instantly recognized all devices we had hooked up and rendered our other remotes redundant. It puts our old Apple TV to shame. So I was willing to give Samsung flagship phones a serious look.

The Note 7 debuts just a few days after my big 5-0 birthday. So even though my husband still thinks Android is evil, he's willing to let me be the family Guinea pig for a new foray into Android, because he's not so thrilled with Apple at the moment either and really digging his Surface Pro even though he was making fun of it before a shortage of the Apple laptop he wanted forced him to get one. He does own android phones, including an old Samsung Galaxy of some sort, but they are old crappy ones.

Anyway that's how I, a total Android ignoramus and Apple loyalist ended up here. I have no clue what I'm doing and my husband expects my Android foray to fail spectacularly. But he says I will have to learn that for myself. Whatever. I feel like there's never been a better time to give it a try because I have my trusty SE to see me through this and though my 6SPlus is awesome, I am willing to trade it in for an adventure.

According to what I just read you can disable some of the bloat but can't uninstall it. And they did lock it down so there's no rooting possible through officially sanctioned channels. Not that I know how to do that, anyway. I suppose I can learn. I have installed other people's hacks and even made my own custom content for games before. But I'm not sure I want to try that on a nearly $1,000 device.

Well...I've got a lot of research to do. Thank you all for the help and answers already rendered.

Yes, that's the way my Galaxy S6 was on verizon. But disabling the bloat got it out of the way. The only reminder I ever had that I was using the Verizon variant was the obnoxious logo on the back of the phone. Otherwise, the phone looked like stock TouchWiz. But it is frustrating for sure!

guess it depends how curved the device is, some pics it doesn't look as curved as the S7 edge.

For me it wouldn't put me off as I like my S7 edge. Just hope they have sorted out the issue with false touches.
wasn't there a poll like that about the Galaxy S7 edge too....that most wanted a flat screen? Now the S7 edge is selling better than the flat S7....go figure.....

Crazy, but makes sense. My understanding is that it was Samsung who wanted the lock. They don't trust users to have control over their $800 device. At least give the users a choice to do it even if they want to trip Knox and void the warranty. It should be an option.

Edit: Missed this but looks like it is an option now, just not from Samsung:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/how-to-root-s7-edge-t3410470

I may just have to pick up a s7 edge, they seem to be pretty cheap on swappa.

Reason: bigger battery , bigger display
That's what I found appealing about it. It felt nice in the hand versus my 6Splus and the flat S7. But I'm reading a lot of folks are annoyed with the edges registering false touches.

Not with a stupid curved screen it won't. Why do Samsung feel the need to push this on people rather than giving them a choice.
Of course it will, the edge feels amazing in the hand. No wasted screen with it being far more easier to hold than say the iPhone which Is very bulky

If anything companies like Samsung do give people choice. The curved screen is a nice feature and the curved screen on the new note might not even be as curved as the S7 edge

I actually find it much harder to 'naturally' hold my S7 edge than either my HTC 10 or iPhone 6S+ because of the lack of edges. The very nature of them means you have to be extra cautious when picking it up and invariably what should be just an instinctive action of picking up the device and gripping it, becomes a cautionary exercise.

I think the edge looks fantastic, aesthetically its unquestionably the prettiest phone, but from a practicality standpoint wise - some bezel or lip does make a device much easier to actually hold and use in every day life.

But it's all subjective I guess and were all different.

I can't comment on other devices but my iPhone I rarely hold it one handed as it is too big. Even replying to this I'm doing it one handed and I could easily do so if walking in the street. There's certainly false touches at times but when it comes to holding it the last thing it feels like is a 5.5 inch device

I actually use SE these days more so than my 6+ tbh, it is small but for one handed operation & navigation it is unparalleled.

Completely agree. That's why I've stayed away from the edge models. Size is too big for me and the edges make then even harder to use naturally.

IMO there is wasted screen space in that the curved edges provide less utility in both reading text, writing, etc. So to me I'm not even getting a 5.7" screen, but a downgrade from the Note 5 to what is probably a 5.6 or 5.5 screen. Even worse, when gripping it one handed my hands and fingers will cover a significant portion of that edged screen. Of course I agree it will be easier to hold than the 6s+, but mainly because of how much smaller it will be.

Came across this article from June -
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/1...ly-with-5-million-built-by-august-release.htm

What stood out was this line:
"It is believed Samsung will begin selling the Galaxy Note 7 almost immediately after it officially announced the device"

I thought it was a recent rumor, but guess not.

Interesting, a bit off topic from your post but anyone know what "Super OIS (optical image stabilization) Plus" might be? I'm curious if Samsung has any patents for some new OIS method, if so then that IS a useful feature IMO. Can't wait.

Poll results: 40% of voters hate the idea of a curved Galaxy Note 7

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Poll...te-the-idea-of-a-curved-Galaxy-Note-7_id83179

Mark my words, they will go back to a flat model next year, or at least offer 2 models (unless the folding phone is the Note 8). The curved screen on the Note 7 is 2016' microSD fiasco that they will correct next year.

well note 7 said to be 5.8 but i don't see how the curved edge makes it wasted screen. It's hardly enough to make it noticeable. Wasted space is what the 6s plus has where i wish they would reduce the bezels to make more of the screen.

the edge is to me is quite enjoyable one handed and i would hope the note 7 is as well. I get those who don't get on with the edge as for some the false touches would be frustrating. That said I think it is the future going forward i imagine.

Guess it depends if you don't use the edge features then it would just be the look and thats not enough.

Yeah I won't cry over .1 or .2mm of wasted screen, but still it will seem like less than the Note 5 to me. Most rumors I hear say 5.7", but I guess we'll find out in a few weeks. The 6s+ is just embarrassingly massive, that screen to phone ratio belongs squarely in 2012, and will be that much more embarrassing in 2016 when the iPhone 7 looks the same.

I hope I like the edge, you have much more experience with it than I do. I can't wait to get to a BB and demo one. I still think not having a flat model is a mistake and will hurt them in sales, but who knows? A lot of people complained about the Note 5 but from what I understand it sold very well. Hell I bought a couple of them, and anticipate repeating the same this year regardless of my complaints.

I think they're realizing they have very limited time before the iPhone 7 launches and want to get as many sales in as possible.
Normally, I would agree and I'm sure Samsung originally planned for an August release, but the Note series is more of a niche device than the S series. Samsung never sells the number of Notes that they do with the S variants.

Exactly this. It's like the curved part of the screen is laughing at me: "Haha look, this could be nice and useful flat screen space and then you'd get to use all 5,8" of me, but instead I'm just gonna go ahead and be all curved and stupid so that you can just make out that outer part of the webpage or whatever it is you're looking at, but that part is going to look all warped and useless all for the sake of having a gimmicky feature that makes the phone seem special."

I find it massively annoying. I'd much rather have that part be black bezel and the screen area being measured including only the flat part. (I for one have no beef whatsoever with the current iPhone bezels. Sure I'd like a bigger screen to phone footprint ratio, but I don't mind at all the way the iPhone looks and I often find the bezels useful especially in horizontal mode)

Also I find that the curved part frames what's being displayed in a really poor way, to me it makes everything look just worse, it confuses the eyes and upsets the intended design of whatever one is looking at.

I dig that others like the way it looks and I'm not holding it against them, we all have our tastes and that's cool, but really I'm sad that Samsung makes this the only version of such a centerpiece of a phone series. Like someone said earlier, this time it's actually sad they don't have more versions of a phone. And if they have to go for just one, it would make much more sense to have it be the flat screen version IMO.

I get your concerns but I'm guessing Samsung have looked at the sales of the S7 edge and think they need to carry on with this technology. Be interesting how curved the screen will be compared to the S7 edge

It would be interesting to see how sales of the Note 5 faired against the S6 Edge+.

Some how I suspect the Edge+ outsold the Note 5 and hence another reason why we are only seeing an edge model.

It's got to be sales related as afterall sales was the reason why the note 5 never made it to the UK

Well the official reason they said it didn't make Europe was that a test study group of users said they didn't use the S-Pen and so Samsung decided not to release the Note 5 and only the S6 Edge+

But I'm sure sales of the S6 Edge (over the S6) in Europe played a significant part in the decision process too.
