touch ID I think is one of the features that they have brillantly done and alot of other have followed suit. Force touch I think could become big and it's why IOS 10 alot of forch touch is in this update.

I don't see apple bringing out the iris scanner for one as they won't see a need for it. If I get the note 7 I doubt I would use it apart from to show people. That said plenty of time samsung bring out they scrap but at the same time plenty they keep and are very good.

Multitasking on the phone I hope apple will copy one day. They have made a good start with the ipad. Maybe they see it should only be used for that but I hope not.

no doubt next year is a big year for apple. Thats the year of maybe the biggest expection ever. Alot are expecting great things and I feel they will deliver.

The iphone 7 will be a good upgrade in terms of general upgrades. Many will disagree because of no re-design and no headphone jack. I for hope am hoping the duel camera is as good as i hope
Hopefully Apple doesn't disappoint next year. I think a lot of us know the iPhone this year will be sort of a placeholder for next year drastic redesign. I just wouldn't be surprised if Apple included a iris scanner in the 2017 iPhone. It seems like all the companies copy each other...its just about your company having a different implementation of it to make it stand apart from the rest.

But, I am perfectly fine with my S7 Edge (which I find to be the best phone of 2016 -- so far)/ iPhone 6S, as I think it will be good enough to last me until next year. 2016 wasn't a good year for smartphones. Let's hope 2017 brings something new and exciting.

I think it's just so damn hard to improve devices so much after a year. It's why I think we will see less and less re-designs until like 3 years.

Sadly, everyone is going to fall in line. The removal of the headphone jack was eventually going to happen. Give it a couple of years, it will be a rarity to see a headphone jack on a high-end smartphone. I know a lot of people will doubt it, but only time will tell. Maybe in 2018, I'll find this post and quote it.
You are probably right. But for what reason? What was the reasoning behind removing it? What better feature was it removed for?
Will the rest of the industry just follow Apple because well they're Apple?

Note 7 with a 5.8" screen to have a 3,500mAh battery, which is smaller battery than the 5.5" S7 Edge @ 3,600mAh. I do not understand the reasoning behind this.

I was expecting the Note 7 to have anywhere from like a 3,800mAh battery to a 4,200mAh battery.

I know 3500 is still pretty good, but this new Note 7 being bigger than the S7 Edge, well the battery should be larger too

i think that is something we are curious to hear in September at the Apple keynote. Unfortunately, we can only assume at this point. I just don't see them removing it just because they want to make the device slimmer (a lot of people think this is the reasoning).

I don't know why people didn't see it coming, though. The days of using wires are going to eventually come to the end...its going to be wireless everything. I mean, look at Bluetooth 5 - https://www.bluetooth.com/news/pres...edincreases-data-broadcasting-capacity-by-800

I can't speak for many, but I can't remember the last time I used wired headphones. I use the usb (not aux) port in my car and/or bluetooth, bluetooth headphones and place my S7 Edge on a wireless charging pad when it needs to be charged.

Yeah, that is puzzling. Maybe Samsung isn't targeting S7 Edge users, but Note 4/5 users to upgrade ...if you want the S-Pen that is. The S7 Edge and Note 7 seem to be clashing. It makes me wonder, will be see a Note 8, or with the S8 Edge replace it.

In all honesty though, don't you guys think this iris scanner will work quite well even when the user wears glasses or contacts, and outdoors, and that the text was written primarily to neutralise the inevitable complaints that will come once people find that it isn't as reliable as a (good) fingerprint scanner?

Or, all is true and it really doesn't work with contacts, in which case RIP. :D

I think it will work just fine. The iris scanner on the 950XL works quite nicely with glasses, even sunglasses and outdoors or in complete darkness, it's really quite impressive. I have no idea how samsungs iris scanner will work, but Samsung typically has top notch hardware and I would bet they put a lot of effort into perfecting it. On the leaked video it looked pretty darn fast to me.

I'm probably the only one, but I'm a bit excited for it. Just one more option, and if you don't need it then just turn it off.

Has to be the S-pen and how much real estate it takes in the chassis. That being said, I think everyone is expecting the Note series to be top-performers in the battery life department, so I'll reserve my judgment until the specs are finalized.

Note 7 will have the Snapdragon 821, which is supposed to be significantly better than the 820 on battery life. The other reason for the smaller battery was making space for both the S-Pen and Iris scanner. I have a feeling battery life will still equal that of the S7 Edge (snapdragon variant).

Where is it confirmed it will have the 821. Leaked benchmarks & gear bench so far have seemingly got it down as either exynos or snapdragon 820.

The growing consensus likewise of Rumor mill websites / bloggers seem to now expect that, a 4gb snapdragon 820 device.

Now it wouldn't surprise me if there was a CPU change but the 'definitive' will part of your reply seems to imply that it is confirmed when to the contrary it appears to be very shaky area specifics wise.

Remember this device went into manufacturing weeks ago in order to have availability for launch date - so hardware changes at this stage are unlikely and will be based on the hardware Samsung had available a couple months back. Was the 821 actually available in June in order to take it to manufacturing by mid June to end of June / early July ?

The sites that claim it will have an 821 if you follow sources of the articles point to this site / report.

http://xw.qq.com/digi_tech/20160608007369/DIG2016060800736900

However if you read into that site, they also make the claim of 6gb ram and a 4000 mAh battery. Both of those we now expect to be debunked and are looking at 4gb ram and 3500 mAh. So the claims of a snapdragon 821 from these websites based on this article which also claimed these seemingly debunked specifics shows the contradiction and shakiness that the 821 claim represents.

I still think based on simple logic and the realistic expectations if we are looking at 4gb ram and 3500 mAh, and taking into account manufacturing and hardware specs getting locked down time frames - it will be far more likely to carry the Snapdragon 820

Hey, maybe that 6 gb, 4000 mAh and 821 is for the flat version?? :):):):):)

:(

Edit: actually it would kinda make sense, a flat version would have more space for a bigger battery! But, I know, I know....

Ugh, that would suck as that would've been perfect but cancelled. Why must all the good ones get cancelled.

You also get a free Gear S2 with the ATT deal!! I'm hoping they let the Note 7 count as well, that will convince me to stay with ATT versus going with Verizon. I plan on selling one of them right away while they are hot.

Not sure I'll jump on the S2 deal, don't you have to sign a contract for that? Though I guess I could always cancel and end up paying only $150 for it, but I don't plan on getting cell service for my watch unless it's the apple watch or at least works with both android and ios.

For the classic s2 you need a contract, but doesn't mention one for the regular s2.

Well decided to go for the S7 edge as the note 7 isn't sounding like much of an upgrade. I have 14 days to return it so if Samsung manage to pull something out of the bag next week then I can always get the note.

Congrats. Be aware that you might have trouble with screen protectors, an erratic keyboard, and missing out on Note features. If the spec sheet = 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 820/821, Iris Scanner, S-Pen, and Note productivity software, you're not missing out on much. I wouldn't drop extra $ on the Note in that case.

No based on the leaks the note doesn't seem worth the extra money as I've never really used the s-pen. If there are any suprises next week I'll be able to return it and get the note. Yes I've got a glass one on there at the moment but I don't know how long I'll keep it on for as it's annoying me already.

Looks awesome. I think I'm going to be in your boat as well. I'll wait till the announcement next week, and if it's as suspected - identical to the S7 specs - I'm heading over to Amazon and buying an international S7E.
