Some new prototype pics, sorry if already posted

https://twitter.com/OnLeaks/status/757971508367065089

Looks like there's more and more likelihood of a flat note 7. Although I'm still curious about why they went with the flat back. The Note 5 and the S7 had them, and they were widely praised for it. Why go back?

EDIT: And also, it has the Edge panel. Interesting that Samsung will be integrating this onto a flat screen device for the first time.

That black prototype is beautiful. I am a little disappointed for the sake of people who want the black Note that it looks like only silver, gold and blue will be sold, and even then, the carriers may offer only one or two of those three choices.

For my own sake, I like all the colors almost equally and will likely be happy with whatever I can get from T-Mobile. Just please oh please let there be a BOGO from T-Mobile. I really do NOT want to use my Next trade up on AT&T for this and I want my husband to have one, too.

I'm fine with the Edge variant. I tried the store demo models thoroughly enough to understand why there is such a strong preference for the flat screen. But as this is all an experiment and an adventure for me, with my SE still being my main phone, I am willing to try something very different and a little "out there" more than I normally would.

Well that "edge feature" isn't something special you can accomplish the same thing (to some extent) with basically any Android phone, all you need is Sidebar Pro + if you want it in your notification screen you'll need App Dialer Pro (I'll post a screen of how it looks later).

Personally I think the decision to not sell a black version of the Note would be stupid, the blue one might look pretty now but wait till some time has passed, scratches and dents would all be more visible.

New article on Talk Android today with supposed exclusive information..
The curved display on the Note 7 will be toned down from the Galaxy S7. This should eliminate some of the false touches on the S7.
Yoiu can bump down the screen resolution to 720p to conserve battery if so desired....

First, let’s end the debate as to whether the display will be flat or curved. The Galaxy Note 7 is going to have a display similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge that was launched earlier this year. While the phone will have a display with curved edges, Samsung is heavily toning them down for this phone. This means Samsung is seeing what people are saying about its innovation that the Galaxy Note Edge and scaling it back to reach a comfortable spot for consumers.

Confirmed Gorilla Glass 5....
Confirmed 64GB storage starting base model
Confirmed 4GB of ram
Confirmed USB Type-C port
Confirmed Same camera as the S7
Confirmed iris scanner (seems gimmicky to me)
Confirmed Touchwiz new UX design
Confirmed Enhanced S-Pen functionality

Why would anyone do that in 2016 ? (720p on 5.8" screen)

Hopefully the curved edges do provide less false touches, I'm still happy I've gone and ordered the S7 instead. Had there been a flat N7, then it would have been it, though I am favouring smaller devices of late.

Otherwise pretty much the specs we all knew. Then we have been following it for months.

Yeah I had to read it twice too to make sure I read it correctly....720P? Doesn't make sense.
I am so hoping the curved screen is not as prominent as the S7 to eliminate false touches. But we will see in a few more days.

The iris scanner - as tested out in the 11 minute video - looks crap. You have to properly align your eyes to unlock the device, which obviously takes longer than fingerprint scanning.

As we get closer to the unveil date, I really don't want to get the Note 7. I have to upgrade since I can't stand my iPhone 6+ anymore, but apart from GG5 and the S-Pen and the updated TouchWiz, there isn't a significant difference between that and the S7. Even something small like a newer processor would have been nice to help push me to getting the Note 7; but when it boils down to a "Note-ified" Galaxy S device, I don't even see that premium I used to see in the Note line before. Those phones used to have a more premium build (internals) and look (externals) to it; and I think they lost it to some degree.

Yeah, I'm in a similar boat, I have to upgrade if I want AT&T to cover the costs of my tmobile phones. Maybe I'll just get the cheapest phones they offer and just use my Note 5.

Still holding out hope we get some surprises next week.

Interesting: http://9to5google.com/2016/07/28/ex...rilla-glass-5-microusb-to-usb-c-adapter-more/

Yep an Onyx Note 7 will be available
Gorilla Glass 5, wow
spen is ip68 and can be used underwater, lol not sure if this is useful but cool
comes with usb-c to micro usb adapter
bad part: announcement 8/2, not up for sale until 8/19

edit: Just saw that a lot of this is from the TalkAndroid site mentioned in an earlier post. http://www.talkandroid.com/299070-exclusive-samsung-galaxy-note-7-leak-talk-android/?utm_source=feedburner-ta&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+AndroidNewsGoogleAndroidForums+(TalkAndroid)

Also I'm VERY disappointed that rumors say this will be thicker than the Note 5. yeah yeah I know, we want battery life not a thin phone. I was still excited aesthetically to see a thinner Note phone as the Note 5 was thicker than the S series and the iPhone, and probably most other flagships. With the Note 5's crappy battery life I guess it's a good thing. But if they only fit in 3500 I'm surprised they couldn't figure out how to make that extra 500 not take up space, Apple seems to make their phones thinner each year but yields a better battery ratio.
[doublepost=1469737542][/doublepost]I know it's been posted before, but man that blacked out, flat screen, no logo N7 looks STUNNING. 11 minutes of heaven...

By looking at the specs, it looks like it will be pretty damn solid, and with this years iPhone looking to be nothing special, anyone debating on skipping the new iPhone for a year and trying something new until the 8 comes out next year??

I'm waiting for the announcement on August 2 to be 100% sure that Samsung magically leaked out a false version and instead is coming out with a kickass Note 7 with dream specs. Chances are I'll be disappointed, but in that case I'll head to Amazon and get myself an S7E (international because Exynos >> Snapdragon).

I'm out. I just ordered myself a Galaxy S7 Edge (gold - have to continue the trend) for ~$650 international edition on Amazon and I'm getting it on Saturday! Held a fake demo model in a Bestbuy store and loved it over the Note 5 and my iPhone 6+. I've been using a 5.5" screen for about 1 year now, having used a 5.7" on my Note 3 for about a year and a half (maybe?), so I'll be fine :p

Think they may regret not bringing out the flat version
Samsung used to make great phones but some of their decisions are just I don't know.

if the Note 7 doesn't offer better specs than the s7 edge than yeah I've lost all hope for their former top productivity device and will hang on to my Note 4 longer it's still such a beast

Think they may regret not bringing out the flat version

I don't think so but possibly ...

They are probably basing their decision based on the last two years of S sales and I imagine the S6 Edge / Edge + & this years S7 Edge outsold their flatter counterparts by big margin (based on my observation of resale availability it's clear there are vastly more S7e's than S7 for example).

Of course a strong desire for an S device with an edge doesn't mean that automatically translates to there being same desire for Note 7 edge version, but I imagine Samsung are clearly expecting it.

On the bright side it at least means the whole world gets the Note this year rather than there be two seperate devices.

I called it back in March when we saw the S7e had increased to 5.5 that there would not be a S7e +, however I didn't expect them to amalgamate Note 7 and Edge together.

Honesty it may work fine and hopefully they have improved false touches, the issue with accessories and in particular screen protectors could still be a pain in the bum, but hopefully the gorilla glass 5 will help prevent scratches (especially from sand and grit - it's worse enemies) more than GG4.

I actually think it will sell very well, especially given they did skip Europe last year.

The general lack of enthusiasm here is simply because most of us here have had 2016 flagship phones and in particular the S7 edge and other than iris scanner and s-pen and .3" the Note 7 doesn't represent an essential upgrade, and for those who have had issues with the edge, an added dimension of disappointment.

But for many the Note 7 will represent a decent upgrade to their existing devices. We just have to sadly accept that for us rabid tech addicts on the fora, that just isn't us.

The S7e is €799 here, the Note 7 will be €100 more so likely €899 here. Given my S7e which was still mint condition sold for €410 - there is no way I would justify spending a further €490 extra for what the Note 7 brings. Indeed for €490 I can actually buy a brand new sealed Note 5 and kept the S7e. It's this area of value and resale which is also a major stumbling block for me this year with phones (more so android phones), especially given what €400-500 buys you outright now.

But for those on contracts with subsidised handsets I imagine the Note 7 will still be expensive especially in lower priced monthly plans. The S7e is €450 on a €35 a month contract for 2 years here with Vodafone. We can expect the Note 7 to be a little more again, so €500-550. For a subsidised handset that's still very expensive given what €500 buys you off contract these days. For those on €55-75-100 a month contracts, the phone will obviously be much cheaper if not free on the top tier monthly contract.

So part of me thinks it will be a great success and another part of me thinks it's still got an uphill challenge.

We wait and see :)

I am making the switch, I use the head phone jack in my commute every day, so the new iPhone is a fail for me on that point and I am getting a bit tired of iOS as well. I am looking forward to the note and seeing what android is like. i will be keeping the phone for 2 years so i hop i like it :)

Resale value is a huge factor here and it's a big reason why I like the iPhone option. I think I could buy the iPhone each year and by selling the old one I won't need to put as much to the new one each year. Resale value with android devices will always be poor I expect. Which is frustrating.

Looking forward to seeing what comes with the note 7 though. The new TW if there is much difference and the added s pen features.

Yeah same. My iPhone SE 64gb has a higher resale value than the 32gb S7e I just sold. Madness and frustrating.

Jesus stop moaning about the flat screen.

Guess what...... I bet more people who are not interested in the S Pen will buy this phone. The aesthetics of the curved screen is probably more important than the S pen features for those that want a larger screen phone and a larger base storage. I will probably use the S pen about 5 to 10 times during my ownership of the phone.

As for Notes being same spec as S series, I guess Samsung are just consolidating their product line. The note is more of an S7 Plus with a S pen (to cater for those that want an S pen) rather than a proper Note phone. No point making a S7 edge plus and a Note 7. Just combine the two as they have done. Sounds like a smart business move to me. Despite the many hardcore S Pen Note lovers on here, you represent a tiny market to Samsung and thus are at the bottom of their priorities.

Than buy the S7Edge the Note isn't supposed to be a fashion line phone how hard is that to understand?

Prove to that claim or is it just guessing by someone who thinks talking about majority-minority customer bases?

Fact is, the Note line was supposed to be the new Flagship, specwise and featurewise. There is no real reason to make that phone more in line with the S series the opposite should happen. Have the 2 S phones as the fashion phones and make the Note line what it was supposed to be: as far as phablets a concerned a productivity device with top of the line specs..meaning not the SD 820 but the Snapdragon 823, not a 2k screen but a 4k screen and no stupid gimmick known as Edge.

4K is being saved for the S8. They're trying to be more like Apple with same nomenclature between the devices so people know which model they want.
