I think the frustrating part is that the Note from version 1-4 was unique because of the large screen, high res screen, large battery, latest specs, spen, extra features (removable battery, sd card, ir blaster). But starting last year, the things that made it unique are falling by the wayside. Now it looks like the only unique feature its going to have is the spen.

The black one looks really nice and if the curve is less pronounced and helps with false touches it looks like ill be getting one, but its still disappointed compared to what we thought we were going to get a couple a months ago.
Yeah it does seem like they are blending the models together somewhat. Not a good thing in my opinion. The Note line was always the beast phone for professionals.

FWIW....I talked to a TMO manager yesterday about the N7 being in the stores on Aug 2. He said no.....it will be announced then but available a couple weeks later.
But sometimes....these store guys just have no clue tbh....

Given we now have seemingly confirmed September release for Europe, a mid August release does seem very plausible for USA. Either way not too long now.

Yeah I agree

Note has been the line that is different to the normal S line and just seems now they are making them the same just with the s pen. Guess Will judge it when it's out with side by side comparisons. Iris scanner for one isn't a deal breaker for anybody. Doubt most will use it much anyway.

So really I don't think from the s7 edge it will be much different unless of course they have improved something we don't know about. However as mentioned the update isn't seen as something needed for the s7 edge users anyway.

At least isn't more like the iPhone 6S vs 6S Plus, I'll give Samsung that. They probably think they'll sell people on the Note 4, Note Edge, and other non-Samsung users to buy their Note 7. A lot of iOS users are jumping ship because Apple has been stagnant and you really have to sell yourself on the merits of their devices at the price tag they will ask for this fall.

Completely agree with everything you said there! I think the iris scanner is gimmicky....unless somehow they wow us on release day with it.
I will jump to the N7 from the edge just for the S-Pen. But overall....unless Samsung surprises at the announcement this is a slight upgrade. But I do like the 64GB base storage.

I wonder since some rumors have it that Nougat will be released next month ahead of the Nexus devices.....if the N7 will comes with Nougat? Seems highly unlikely that Google would let anyone else have it first though.

The difference though is that the 6S and 6Splus came out at the same time, not 6 months apart. If they're going to make the Note and S-line the same, might as well as release them together instead of making us wait.

Guess we will see come September and what people do in terms of the new iPhone. I think a lot may stick with what they have and with IOS 10 some features do feel like it is a brand new phone anyway. I'm loving some of the new features.

As mentioned below I think the fact Apple release theirs together people know they are pretty much the same par screen size and battery life. The note line was suppose to be seen as seperate to the S line but does seem it's going away from that now.

Yeah the storage is a big plus starting at 64GB but I guess it depends what the price starts at for this model. You would think it would still be cheaper compared to the iPhone 128GB option you would imagine.

I was all in on getting the note 7 but thinking now maybe not if it's not much difference to my S7 edge which I'm very happy with generally. Will judge it when it's out. Will certainly be watching the announcement on YouTube.

Passing on note 7/iPhone 7 plus would be hard for me but I could see myself doing it. Iphone though depends on how great the duel camera could be.

I'm pretty much resigned completely to doing that. Passing on both, hence I went and sold my Edge and just got the standard S7. I'm happy with the performance, camera, ram management on the exynos variants,.. and the 3000maH on the Exynos S7 should at least match my HTC 10.

I would have waited for the Note 7 had it been flat, but seeing as it isn't I'm not disappointed - indeed I think I'm finding going smaller of late device wise to feel a lot more at home. I'm even considering switching my Black/Space Grey 6S+ for the smaller White/Silver 6S.

I think the anti-climatic 2nd half of 2016, has resulted in me just 'shuffling' my existing devices around to keep me entertained rather than the pursuant of newer devices.

Passing on iPhone or not for me may come down mostly to whether Apple introduce a new watch at the same time as the phone. I'm pretty hooked on my 1st gen AW and for me to give it up now, the N7 would have to be pretty freaking hot. And, if they release a new AW in September and it turns out to be a significant improvement, I'm quite likely to go with iPhone 7 + new AW. In that case I do hope the new AW leaks soon though so I can sell my current gear before second hand prices drop dramatically...

As always though, what calls me most of all to Android is text input. Hot dang am I fed up with the iPhone keyboard and Swiftkey still not working properly on iOS. I can't for the life of me understand why Apple aren't making any real efforts to catch up on the awesome keyboards available on Android.

I think with it being so damn hard for companies to improve their phones each year by enough for people to bother upgrading.

The new iphone will have good improvements but due to the design and plenty not like removing the headphone jack they will wait. For me headphone jack means nothing to me.

Battery life on standby is still stunning on my iphone unmatched from any other phone. Just hard for people to upgrade now to see a big noticeable difference.

a new apple watch is expected from all accounts maybe during the september event.

I love my apple watch and the new 3.0 update has got me excited as speed is the only thing i can fault with my watch. If the 2nd watch comes with better battery life/GPS then I think for a watch it will be a good upgrade.

The note 7 will be a great device but to be fair reasale value is putting me off buying more than one flagship flagship android a year.

With my iphone I know I can get alot for it even when the 7 is out. Also I know there's only one iphone a year which helps not being tempted

I think Apple have brought so many new features with iOS 10, watch OS 3 and Mac OS Sierra that I can't see the point of upgrading any of my stuff this year. iOS 10 will make my 6S plus feel like a new device and I imagine that my Apple Watch will become much more useful.

I'm not keen on losing the headphone jack. I have some Bluetooth headphones but I only use them occasionally as they tend to drain battery and you have to remember to charge them up. It's much easier to use wired headphones. I'm not that much of an audiophile to notice/ care about the difference in audio quality.

Waterproofing would be nice but it is something that I can already get on the S7 edge.

I also wonder how much the camera will be improved. The S7 edge already has a much better camera than the iPhone 6S plus. So it seems as thought all these upgrades will only bring it to the same level as the s7 edge. However the iPhone 7 will be much more expensive. I'd rather just keep my 6S plus and also have the S7 edge.

The only thing that really got me interested about the iPhone 7 was that it would come in 256GB. That would be nice but again I can always stick a 200GB SD card in my S7 edge coupled with my 128GB iPhone 6S plus and I'll be good to go.

Agreed on all points, 6S plus is a fantastic device and will continue to be one this time next year. IOS updates is a big plus for apple users and getting a fresh new update each year is like having a new phone.

I hope one day samsung can have something similar.

It seems to be that Samsung are doing what Apple are apparently doing with the iPhone 7, yet Apple is getting lots of hassle for keeping the same design, but it seems Samsung are doing the exact same thing.

I think this is where Apple's iPhone is the best smartphone one the market. The OS is much better. Altho i do have to say Samsung's design has gotten good in the last couple of years, with the S6 and S7.

I'll see it on the 2nd more than likely, BB should have it by then although it will not be on display till the 3rd I was told but that doesn't matter so long as the BB Samsung rep has a demo and that should on the 2nd. Maybe I'll get a peek even before then. :)

I forget last year how long after preorders started was the Note 5 available for pickup afterwards. And don't forget that preorders on the S7 were allowed to be picked up sooner than release date, that is what happened at my local BB at least.

The standby time really is second to none on iPhone. Yesterday mine was at 6% when I went to bed and I forgot to charge it. Woke up still with 6% and was able to take an urgent call and do some emailing right as I woke up, before I had time go look for the charger. This another feature that makes me think twice before leaving the iPhone.

Yeah Agreed. At work till 6am yesterday and forgot my charger and was left on 1% at 3am and by 6.15am it was still on 1% before bed. That's on iOS 10 beta 2 as well so very impressive.

My s7 edge seems to drain a good 15% overnight

Damn, that is truly impressive

15% overnight drain really is not that cool on a flagship model from this year though. That's what I recall my Note 2 used to do... One would assume they'd have dealt with an issue like that four years later.

How are the charging ports on Samsung phones today btw? My Note 2 mini USB port got glitchy to all hell and would often spontaneously stop charging whenever it wanted to. Didn't happen on my Note 3 but then I only used it for 6 months, and I haven't had a Samsung phone since.

Well I have noticed it does get very warm when charging now. More so when it's on fast charging. On fast wireless charging it doesn't get as warm. Still it gets very hot when charging. Not sure why thats the case though just because it's fast charging

What really puts this into perspective is when you compare the actual mAh drained from the battery.

The S7 Edge has a 3600mAh battery, at a drain of 15% overnight, that means it lost 540mAh of charge over night.

The iPhone 6S Plus on the other hand has a 2750 mAh battery, at a loss of 1-2% maximum per night in standby. The 6S Plus is only draining 27.5 to 55mAh in a night.

That means in your situation, the iPhone 6S Plus is consuming at most 10% of the power utilized by the S7 Edge over night.

Of course this is just a rough calculation and comparison but in my case for example the S7 Edge loses 4% over night in standby resulting in 144mAH drained from the battery.

Even in comparison to my results which are about the best you can expect from the S7 Edge, the iPhone 6S Plus is using only 38% of the power used up by the S7 Edge.

Now when you take into account the whole day and the amount of time a device is in standby, you begin to realize one of the reason why the iPhone 6S Plus has such good battery life. The individual hardware components may not be as efficient as the competition but Apple ensures they lose minimal battery in situations where the device is not in use hence allowing longer active usage.

Yeah maybe so.

Might need to just do a clear out. I do find it annoying how I stop getting twitter notifications after 50 or so tweets come through which is frustrating and not something that happens on my iphone.
