I'm in the same boat. All friends and family use iMessage. But why does that stop you from switching? Granted it's easier to use iMessage when everyone else uses it but shouldn't SMS/mms work fine (although it sucks compared to iMessage).

Oh it does just that they refuse to use other messaging methods. When asked I get reasons like oh I want all my messages in one place, or I don't want to swap services or I don't like other messaging services etc. All very frustrating.

Yeah it definitely is frustrating and makes it that much harder to switch. I'm probably gonna be in the same boat. I've tried to switch multiple times and it's been iMessage (mainly group messages) that's brought me back. I'm just sick of using everything Apple and having to use their other products (MacBook, iPad) to access things like messages, notes, reminders and photos (iCloud.com is not a viable method IMO).

I don't see how the new Samsung cloud is different from the Samsung account already present in my S6. I get internet backup, calendar, contacts, phone log, s notes, etc. Not sure about photos, but everything else seems identical.

Yeah i was wondering the same. Seems to be just photos that is new, but to be honest I'd stick with Google photos simply because it's cross platform and has unlimited storage option.

I have too many friends & family on iMessage who seemingly refuse to use any other messaging service, even though some are also on what's app as well, for me to be able to swap away from Apple at the moment and just exclusively run Android. Plus there's my heavy investment in iTunes.

It's gotta suck when others control what you buy. Honestly, do you and your social circle not message anyone without an iPhone? The Galaxy S7/S7 Edge phones are the first phones to make a few of my iPhone friends jump on a non-Apple device. Each one had some reservations about losing iMessage, but now don't even care as their friends had no choice but to use another messaging app. It's not like they would just ignore them and stop being their friends/family because they didn't have an iPhone. Lol

It's not like messages arrive later or don't come through like imessage. it comes through the same way

Yes I did. It restores fine, but the application setting failed to restore. Other than that, like message, call log, alarm, restore just fine. Don't know about s-health as I don't use it.

Did it restore the homescreen exactly as you had it? Placement of folders and widgets?

For me the Homescreen is the big deal.

No, it didn't. But one item named application setting failed to restore. Don't know if the homescreen layout is in there. Its a ported rom with many bugs so hopefully it works well on actual Note 7.

To be fair, iMeassage is still an advantage cause it's global and more capable with multimedia. This is why I can't wait until Google Allo comes out.

As much as I hate Facebook, I gotta say Messenger is pretty awesome. The two I now use the most are Messenger and Telegram. Strictly because of their Gif support. Not sure why FB doesn't add that to Whatsapp. For me its, Messenger, Telegram, Whatsapp, annd BBM. Honestly, can't imagine limiting myself to one messaging app that it dictates what phone I buy. Especially in today's market.

Yea, I just wish everyone thought like that. But most users go with the default.

Yeah I grudgingly have switched over to FB messenger it has a lot of cool features, and everyone in the world is on it. For android people try downloading google messages. It is still limited by sms, but aesthetically it is by far the cleanest app I have used.

Anytime I try to switch to an Android phone from my iPhone, I never receive any group messages unless the initiator of the group message has never messaged me before. I think there's either a bug with iMessage or its Apple screwing us over but there are multiple threads on this here and around the internet. iMessage basically locks you out of group messages unless every single person you've ever group messaged deletes the threads on all their I devices. Ridiculous on Apple's part and just another reason I want out.

How can Google fail so badly when it comes to sms/mms? Hangouts is a mess, heck they even discontinued the widget for it. Google voice is incredible, but virtually unsupported, the app hasn't been updated in a long time and there is no MMS support. Allo looks to just replicate a lot of functionality already there, and google already says they will continue to support hangouts next to it. Google is acting like Microsoft without a clear direction and too many projects/managers. Seriously Google get your head out of your ... and consolidate this all into a single cohesive sms/mms platform with a clear direction. It fascinates me how far behind Apple's hardware and software is, but so many stay with it in large part because their messaging is so cohesive, inclusive and polished.

Google needs to go against the norm for Android and make Allo the default messaging app for this to work, else it never will. They don't have to lock users into it--they could change it like anything else on Android but considering so many users just use the default, it would grow the Allo user base immensely right out of the gate because most would never change it.

I'm sure though they can't make it mandatory as it'll draw the ire of the EU or US government as anti competitive behavior.

How can Apple make it mandatory then?

Edit: I guess because Apple controls/owns the hardware and software

I'm surprised blackberry hasn't approached oems and offered them BBM as the default SMS app. They could really hijack that from google if they can become the default.

Always On Display on the Galaxy Note 7 supports third-party app notifications

ASIF S. / 7 MINS AGO
Samsung usually introduces new features with Galaxy S smartphones and then refines them on Galaxy Note smartphones. One such feature is the Always On Display mode that was introduced with the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. Now, Samsung has released an improved version of the feature with the Galaxy Note 7.

The Galaxy Note 7 comes with Always On Display v1.7.12 pre-installed, and it supports third-party app notifications. Earlier, notifications from only stock apps like S Planner and Messages were allowed on Always On Display, and many consumers requested Samsung to allow third-party apps. It’s great to see that Samsung is listening to at least some requests from its customers.

Hopefully they listen enough to being Grace UX and its new enhancements over to the S7 & S7e. That's an area they have often been iffy (lapse) about in the past even if devices are only a few months apart. There is no reason (as we can see from the rom port) that all the 2016 devices shouldn't run with latest updated software. :)

Yes there is no reason not to implement the whole Grace UX for S7/S7 Edge except the S-Pen Features.
I hope it will not take to long.
I will try to skip Note 7 (would be the first note that i don't buy) this time because of the minimal update to s7 edge and wait for s8 edge.
One Year with the same phone will be a new record for me:D
