Anyone used Clove recently as its £675 on there.

Can't believe people paid over the odds on the Samsung website just for a free VR set.

The best I could've gotten was $789 before tax, then sell the freebie accessories with it to get the price down to about $680-$700. Not really a fan of paying that much for the upgrade from the S7.

And to get it early. You also get a free case ordering with Samsung.

Yeah you pay more but when you are paying around 700 for a phone an extra 60 with what else is included is hardly an issue.

I'm new to preordering a Samsung phone. Are the phones delivered by the release date or is there a chance that I would get it after? I suppose it depends on the carrier. Mine is Verizon
My first time pre-ordering as well. I receive a message from Verizon that the phone shipped on Monday. My delivery date shows as 8/19/16.

The phone right now is in a FedEx truck somewhere in PA

I ordered from CPW, I use their click & collect service, in the end & I can pick up a cheap case online.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7

9.3 VERGE SCORE

GOOD STUFF
  • Gorgeous, efficient design
  • Beautiful display
  • Best-in-class camera
BAD STUFF
  • High price
  • Carrier bloatware
  • Duplicate apps

Being the best in a category as competitive as smartphones isn’t something that can be done on the back of one or two features. The Note 7 is not the best because its 5.7-inch screen is bigger than every other phone’s display (though it is arguably better); it’s not because it’s dramatically more powerful or faster than any other phone; it’s not because its battery is substantially longer lasting than others; and it’s not because its camera is markedly better than anything else you could buy, including other phones from Samsung. It’s the best because it has the best combination of all of those qualities, wrapped in a skin that’s beautiful to look at and lovely to hold.

Apple’s take on the big phone Future of Computing was seen as a revelation for millions of iPhone users, but it didn’t feel like a full commitment to the big phone concept. It’s just a bigger iPhone, with the same hardware design and software experience. The same can be said of the Nexus 6P and many other big Android phones, which aren’t markedly different than smaller options. The Note 7, however, leverages Samsung’s years of expertise building big phones, and its hardware design and software features lift it up above the fray. It’s the least compromised big phone you can buy, and it doesn’t force you give up anything that makes big phones so great.

Awesome. Most reviews have come out and called it the best phone out right now. Seems the biggest gripe I see is price, followed by bloatware. And the ones that haven't proclaimed it the best, say that its because they're disappointed the Note isn't what it used to be. Glad it's getting great reviews, hopefully this lights a fire under Apple and we can look forward to a killer iPhone next year.

Fighting the urge to go to best buy to play with it again, want the next time I hold one to my own.

The best quote in that review:

People have said for years that it's impossible for Android phone makers to replicate the iPhone's hardware and software synergy because they don't own the software. The closest thing to an iPhone has been Google's Nexus phones.

But I think Samsung's finally figured it out. The Note7 fuses state of the art hardware with Android in a harmonious package. It's not stock Android, but TouchWiz has evolved so much over the last six years, it's no longer a crutch. It's a deliberate design decision for a better smartphone experience.

Spot on. iOS is too limited and stock Android is too vanilla (see what I did there?).

TouchWiz is the best of both worlds, and then some. It's feature-rich, but comes on top of a fast and stable OS (Marshmallow). I can only imagine it'll be even better and more feature-rich once the Note 7 gets Android N.

This is something I've been touching on for some time now. It's not just that Samsung is accelerating with hardware, it's software, too. When I say I feel Samsung is putting out the better technology, I'm speaking both hardware and software. It's nice they're getting that acknowledgment this year.

People discussing the imessage vs other messaging services. If your family / friends won't consider downloading WhatsApp / fb messenger etc to continue messaging your with media etc then it's their loss.

That's not reasonable though. Some can't figure that stuff out, or if they connect with you on WhatsApp then someone else in their circle is on a different messaging system and all of the sudden they have to have multiple messaging apps to manage. If I had to guess I'd say the VAST majority of consumers just use whatever stock/default messaging system is on their phone when purchased.

What's the advantage of imessage anyhow? Is it that all your devices are synced and you can continue conversations across devices? What's the big draw, why are so many f inding it impossible to ditch?

Yep you have been say this for some time now! :)

That is the best take away from all this and some (Epicrayban) have been saying this all along TW has evolved into a great feature rich user experience.

That's fine. It's the people who are not even open to trying it.

And I'm not talking about your average friend, I'm thinking your family, best friends, closest people. If these people aren't open to trying new software, even when you might show them how its great then that's not cool!

Imessage is ok, but I prefer many other services such as WhatsApp and Facebook due to cross platform uniformity.

Isn't it strange that there has been a complete U-turn in Samsung strategy? Instead of focusing on high specs, they have tried to refine the user experience. Arguably, they haven't spent much time with the SOC or other fancy internals, but tried to perfect the device as a whole - something which Apple was famous for.

Specs are still there, but the primary attention went to hardware design, feel in hand, subtle software changes, optimization etc., Instead of megapixels, they focused on camera speed/consistency. Instead of getting some new SOC, they decides to focus on making the device slimmer yet with respectable batterylife.

Who would have thought 2 years back that Samsung would have the best looking phones in the planet and Apple would play catch-up in design?

I'd like to see you get my mom on WhatsApp, seriously she can't even figure out imessage!! But I understand what you are saying, and don't disagree. Sometimes it's pure laziness, for myself I can't be bothered with setting up the app, signing in, getting others to set it up and keeping track of who has what installed. They are definitely superior services, but sometimes pre-installed mediocrity and laziness wins the day.

My next phone, methinks. Will wait a few months for the price to drop. Also wanna see what the Gear S3 is like.

With clove, I would have to pay $754 (USD) + any foreign tranx credit card fees, and I bought my S7E for $630. $120 + extra fees to upgrade?

Hmm ... Nah, Note 8 it is.

The way I see it the Note 7 is the king of phablets if you're coming from any non-Note device but if you've been using the Note series it's just a refined upgrade but not convincingly bleeding edge enough to live up to its reputation and first day purchase desirability. Would've preferred that it evolved more as a tablet slayer with closer to 6" display since it's physically smaller, with more space age materials like graphene, newer better battery tech such as metallic sodium, Exynos instead, bump up to 6GB DRAM, etc.
