Because Megapixels only allows you to have a bigger photo, not a better one. It's about the lens/light sensor. Heck the New HTC One only has a 4 Megapixel camera, they're using what they call "Ultrapixels"

How do ultrapixels differ?

I'm undecided yet. I've jumped ship a few times in the past and have always come back to iPhone. I'll wait to see what Apple announce.

Even though it is being announced in 2 weeks, I don't see it coming out until late April at the earliest.

I wouldn't take much notice of drop test results unless they perform the droptest a large amount of times. Doing a one off drop, both handsets would have fallen differently.

Cant understand all the hatred for plastic! Means I can use my phone without a case without worrying about it getting a few scratches. A new back for a few ££ and its as good as new!

Well really it just makes sense when you think about it. A plastic frame will deform easier than an aluminum frame. And when the frame deforms easier, it will put more stress on the glass on impact. Scratches are just cosmetic, they don't hinder functionality. A cracked screen however can hinder functionality.

According to HTC it allows each pixel to capture 300% more light than the leading 13MP cameras.

Essentially a lower resolution sensor can often times mean better quality pictures (better quality here is different from higher resolution as they are completely different). As long as the sensor stays the same size, that means the photodiode themselves will increase in size. This allows each pixel to receive more light by itself, just by decreasing resolution. Not sure why they had to add some special name to it.

I would personally love to see more Android phones go metal. I saw a drop test on Android authority between the S3 and the iPhone 5 and the S3 didn't do very well. Sure, scratches were more apparent on the aluminum back of the iPhone compared to the plastic on the S3. But that is not nearly as big of a deal as a shattered screen. And the aluminum construction of the iPhone helped it keep its shape when it fell, making it more difficult for the impact to shatter the screen. However, the plastic on the S3 made the frame deform easier and thus cracking the screen easier. And personally, I would much rather have a scratch on the back of my phone rather than a shattered screen.

But either way I will probably end up getting a case anyways. But it would be nice to feel more confident without a case if I decided to go that route.

Cant agree with this. I dont think the back has any bearing on how the screen will shatter or not. When you take the back off of a GS3, it is very solid inside with screws holding things in place. Its just solid inside imo.
I also dont see why they couldnt put the flexible screen in there. Even if it is flat at least it wont break.

Aluminum just feels more solid but it dents easy which then makes the phone look like crap and worst of all for me, it is too slippery. With NFC in them, they cant use all aluminum anyways or it wont work and the GS3 has the NFC in the battery(however that works with the phone but thats where it is) which takes up most of the back space.

We will see how it is going to look soon enough.

I just can't see Samsung moving away from a physical home button just yet. Too big of a risk

Edit: unless they implement a easy alternative that can replace the home button. Muscle memory for the majority is to have a home button ala iPhone style

They did it with the US version of the Galaxy S2, and many many other phones that year. Just saying.

The samsung invite did have a solid metal '4' in it.. and the entire poster was focused on it.. I think they're going metal.

Definitely a valid point and possibility.

Quite excited about March 14th.

As far as the camera is concerned, the camera on the S3 was a huge strike for me. I think it's awful. Same goes for the screen. Samsung could put a 100 megapixel camera in the S4 and still screw it up. Say what you want about Apple, one thing I learned from them is the the MP's really aren't everything. Light sensors make a big difference.

That being said, I think Samsung will deliver on the camera and the screen as well. I am really looking forward to seeing the official specs for the S4. If they are a serious improvement than I'm sold. I am more interested in the Note 3, but I will likely buy an S4 for the meantime, then sell it for a Note this fall and keep my Lumia 920 as a backup.

Actually the S3 takes as good or better pics than the 5. The problem was a software issue with ICS. The default settings were terrible and auto focus wasn't that great. The Jelly Bean update fixed that.

I don't think I'll be getting the Galaxy S4. I currently have a Galaxy S3 and think it is a great device but my initial plan when switching to Android was to go with the Nexus line for both my tablet and smartphone. I didn't get the Galaxy Nexus because it was very much outdated at the time I bought the S3 but with Google I/O coming I think we can expect either a new smartphone (the rumoured "X Phone"), a spec bump for the Nexus 4 or both and as such it would be an opportunity for me to switch to a Google/Nexus smartphone with the same benefits of my Nexus 7.

I am also not too hot for Samsung as a company at the moment, they have been rubbing me the wrong way as of late, their blatant rip off of Apple's Passbook being the latest offence. It is also virtually certain that since they are such a big OEM they will end up pushing their own Tizen OS with their own ecosystem including all the Samsung apps/services (S-Voice, Samsung Wallet, their store for video, music and magazines, cloud storage, email, browser, etc). I am personally not interested in any of that or in Samsung seeking to replace services and functionality that Google includes in Android by default. I trust Google (and Apple), I don't trust Samsung.

How did they rip off apples passbook? I can't imagine it being worse than passbook, and since Samsung has NFC it'd prolly be a lot better than the overall uselessness of passbook. Seems like apple was trying to do a version of NFC without the technology with passbook.

It is rather obvious that Samsung took a page from Passbook with their app.

Image

Even the icon bears an striking similarity to Apple's. Wether the app itself works better than Passbook is really besides the point. And it seem that Samsung Wallet will not support NFC at launch.

And Apple ripped off existing apps on Android like Key Ring and Cardstar that do the same things as PassBook:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.froogloid.kring.google.zxing.client.android&hl=en

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cardstar.android&feature=related_apps

Apple's PassBook was nothing new as far as apps are concerned.

I can upgrade my phone at a discount since Oct last year.

iPhone 4 on Verizon.

The iPhone 5 didn't really interest me and Android is looking really nice.

We'll see. Especially how Apple isn't having spring events this year and news is boring around Apple the Samsung even will be interesting.

Wow I've never noticed that before even though I've seen pictures.

Now I wonder if they will do something like that. Im on a n4 and I'd prefer a home button, only to turn screen on though - maybe double trap screen it turns on? Like pgm

I hope they don't price the phone too high to compensate for money lost on this trial.

They are ULTRApixels!
