You are a star

thanks

VERY new to all of this...just a different world coming from the iphone.

Guessing you can save things like that to the SD card? guessing thats easy to do? do you just go to the settings and put it in the storage for SD section?

Yeah or just use the file manager that comes installed on your device (my s4 came with one) and move it to wherever you want :)

----------

So I just (as in 30min ago) went to play with the GS4 at both my local AT&T and T-mobile store.

My feelings about this phone have been on a roller-coster ride from initial disappointment, to growing desire, to minor annoyance...yeah you get the idea.

Anyway I figured I owed it to myself to try one out in person. I actually really like how the GS4 looks, especially the white version. The HTC one was more visually striking but the GS4 looked more comfortable with the plus that it wasn't that much bigger than my current Galaxy Nexus.

I was very concerned about the lag some people have been reporting here. The biggest "lag" issue I encountered was the time it takes to get to the homescreen when you press the home button. At each store I shut off all the special features using the extended notification toggles because this is how I plan to use the phone if I do buy it. I also disabled the "launch S-voice with the home button" option which helped a little. I also changed all the transitions in the developer options from 1x to 0.5x. This made the biggest difference at least in the delay of getting back to the homescreen. I also made sure to clear all recent apps. I have to say that the phone felt pretty speedy (and there wasn't too much of a difference before and after making those changes with the exception of the transition speed).

The screen looked great even when it wasn't at max brightness.

Touchwiz is a bit in your face but I feel like I could ignore it especially with Nova launcher. I actually don't mind the stock launcher either. It still feels like Android (with a lot of extras piled on top), whereas the HTC One with sense felt like some third hybrid operating system which I didn't like at all.

To be honest after seeing the phone in person I don't think the lag issue would be a problem for me. The one thing that I am concerned about is the durability of the physical home button. At the AT&T store it felt horrible, presumably from hundreds of people pushing that button all day long. But perhaps that is a good predictor of how the button would feel after a 1-2 years of use? At the T-mobile store which clearly had a newer less handled unit the button felt fine but I think I would still have preferred a capacitive button. Anyone else transitioned from capacitative or on screen buttons to a GS3 or GS4?

Yep turning off home button launching s-voice, and putting the animations to off or .5x (and turning off smart scroll, stay and air gestures) make it speedy. You will get smallest litte micro stutters where you'll notice a scroll not quite as smooth as you'd expect but they aren't breaking.

I said in my hands on experience of the s4 that I didn't want to overplay the lag, it was more little stutters. For most folks they wouldn't even notice them, and they can be eradicated if you use another launcher.

My own decision was more based on the memory usage of the device, and the fact I still had to deal with touchwiz's dialler, contacts, calculator, calendar, music player, messaging applications even if I did change launcher, and aesthetically to me I didn't like them but I'm über sensitive to design as its my profession and I couldn't look at something that was contrary to my own design ethos every time I looked at the phone. This would make no difference to 99.99% of its users I understand, but for me the GUI is almost more important to me than the look of the device.

The camera on the s4 is fantastic, and I actually liked the hardware and did not think it felt cheap or 'too plasticky' at all.

Enjoy the phone when you get it :) its a great device.

Yeah thought not

Was going to use chrome beta as my web browser but thought about stock due to the eye scrolling thing...but thinking about it don't think it's worth it just for the scrolling...

Technically for the majority of stuff they don't give you the option out of the box.

To disable a lot of their stuff you need to root the device,
therefore there is a lot of the stuff (software and services) they did not want you disabling ..... ;)
No you dont, just go in App management and disable the Samsung apps you dont want running. Ive got 11 things disabled including the Zinga games icon that came on this thing to get their games. Doubt that is slowing anything down but i just dont want it on my screen.

Others are
Talkback, T-Mobile TV, S Voice, S Suggest, Music Hub, Chat On, Mobilelife Contacts, Allshare, Bonus Apps, and Tmobile name ID. I could probably disable a few more but those are the ones i absolutely didnt care about.

I went from an Iphone 5 to the S4, and I have to say that I have not noticed any of the lag issues. I dont know what the heck I am doing on this phone either and still have all of the stock stuff installed and running. This is my first android phone. I am pleased with it. I didnt know you could change launchers, but maybe because this is the only one I have used, I like the installed launcher a lot.

I'm seeing the S4 as the "smartphone representative" in A LOT of advertisements now on television. It used to be all iPhones.

If people still think the tides aren't changing/changed they're really fooling themselves.

Holding off purchasing the S4 for the moment, the prices on contract in my country's carriers are simply atrocious; I've never seen such exorbitant prices on contract before.

It's like $578 on contract in my country's currency :( Gonna wait for some time to consider other options.

Just now saw an iPhone 5 commercial which talked about nothing but taking photos. I found it very sad :(

Couch, enough already with this. No one is saying Android and Samsung aren't wildly popular but what carries more weight, your anecdotal evidence from watching TV or this.

And before someone chimes in that 'the US isn't the only market', it is the market where Couch watches television.

It's not just Couch - I'm in Australia and I see a LOT of ads here for the Galaxy line - both the S4 and the Note 2 have been getting decent screen time.

All the iPhone ads I see are the 30 second clips that show the camera can take panoramas.

Heard the performance between the dual core 1.9Ghz and Octa core versions do not differ much, why would you want to get an octo version for so much cash?

2 for 2 on upside videos from my new S4 on Facebook! Show up fine on the phone. Beautiful screen. Beautiful camera. Doesn't mean anything if it shows up crappy where everyone else is viewing it. About time to go back to the iPhone 5.

Enough of what exactly?

Just pointing out what I'm seeing. And what I'm seeing are a lot of non-iPhones being used in bank commercials or anything else that involves tech and smartphones. And more specifically, seeing Galaxy phones. Just pointing out that was never the case. I only ever used to see iPhones being the smartphone in commercials.

I don't even own a Samsung product (much less device) nor do I intend to pick up the S4. Take it easy...?

Its mostly for braging as the octo version is using next gen true A15 cores so its a lot more powerful in cpu speed.

what program?

google music manager,it lets any gmail or android user upload and sync from iTunes to the google cloud for free and then you can play the music on any adroid device you are logged into or you can even download the songs to stay on the device as well.

Google also upgades the sound quality if it has a match that is better recorded on there servers

here is a direct link about it
