Is there a sure way to back up everything once you're rooted yet? I know if you messed up on a jailbreak with an iPhone or wanted to revert back you could simply restore with iTunes. Also has anyone noticed a tremendous difference in battery life/ performance once they got rid of the bloatware?

----------

Just received my S4, been playing with it for about 3 hours now. So glad I didn't listen to all the negative reviews. Experienced no lag so far and it's noticeably faster than my S3. Screen on max setting is twice as bright as the S3 on max setting. Every feature also works as advertised. I haven't tried screen mirroring yet.

Nice I'm loving the S4, put my i5 on craigslist just now, we shall see what the iPhone 5(S) or 6 brings, not sure how much longer they can continue offering 16GB either. 32GB Should be the standard, Even with the S4. 9GB Usable (though you can use an SD Card) is laughable.

Media server has used 19% of my battery.. What is that?

Music player / WatchOn / Google Music ..... Or probably some prorpriorty software for sharing content to other Samsung smart TV's....

Tbh, This is one aspect that drove me nuts about the S4, services I hadn't initiated running in the background using up both memory and battery. The fact your already scouring battery management and apps management for these tasks that are eating battery life is proof of how unoptomized Touchwiz is. Android OCD (checking power usage, apps and memory management) should not exist in 2013 and yet the S4 just made me more OCD ..... Head wrecking and one of biggest contributors for me deciding which to keep.

Edit....

http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-galaxy-s-iii/236517-media-server-killing-my-battery.html

And some folks are pointing the issue to either music & Photos being accessed on Micro SD-Card or youTube widget on home screen. If you have youtube widget on, remove it and see too. If you have an SD-Card in the phone - remove it temporarily and see if media server usage drops.

The average user probably doesn't know this, but you can go into application manager and permanently disable any bloat services. I disabled most of the AT&T crap. Just do that once and forget it, no need for constant maintenance.

It seems some carriers are restricting what can be disabled however. A number of services I tried disabling were greyed out / no disable option. Just the uninstall updates option which only resulted in same apps/services re-downloading the updates later.

For full disabling of apps & services you 'may' need to root, but really in 2013 with super poewerful CPU's, GPU's and lots of ram - we shouldn't have to be disabling or rooting or doing any of this management stuff to increase performance. That's where my biggest issue lays.

I fully agree with MRU, Samsung next step should be polish/optimize touchwiz, i dont think build material is a major problem with this kind of issues.

It's not the lags as the frame rate drops which keeps on bugging me. Powerful android devices like the galaxy note 2 keeps dropping frames constantly. Playing games (say temple run 2) on devices like galaxy note 2 is horrendous. Same goes for the S3. That people fail to notice this is kind of disappointing. As an example try turning pages on Flipboard simultaneously on an iPhone and on an android device. I'm a gamer and even a slight drop in frame rate keeps bugging me. I think the only phone which has mastered the art of constant frame rates is the iPhone. If I had something like Fraps installed on iPhone installed I doubt if frame rates at any point would drop below 50. Fortunately google has realised the fault and its project butter is certainly a step in the right direction, albeit only a step right now. Anyway fact is that I find it bewildering how Samsung manages to sell this many poorly optimised phones (because they suffer from frame rate drops when theyre equipped with 4 effin cores! thats not a joke, 4 cores is a lot) without giving users timely updates.

Also for anyone deeply invested in the apple ecosystem, switching isn't really an option. Finally with all this talk of a new flatter iOS, I just hope Apple can maintain the same consistent frame rate throughout the OS.

It's a nice phone. But personally I prefer iPhone 5. simply because I like the iTunes store better than the Google play store.

Keep in mind that it did sit idle for 12 hours, but cut those out and it's still been up for 26 hours. I'd say that's pretty damn good. Stock everything, including TW.

Luckily I haven't came across anything I wasn't able to disable yet.

I agree with you. TouchWiz needs a major revamp.....So does Sense. I have had both phones the HTC One and GS4. Both of the overlays the manufacturers have need to be more streamlined and more intuitive. No matter which one you prefer....they both need work. BTW I chose the S4 and TW as the lesser of the 2 evils.
The SG4 bootloaderfor has been unlocked and will be released after Verizon ships their S4s. I can't wait for a nice fully optimized pure Android rom! The GS4 will truly shine when all the hardware can be exploited with a custom rom.....
There was a update released from Samsung that greatly improved performance as well. My battery lasts almost 24 hours under normal (for me) use.
I never had lag...but the phone is so much faster and zippier.

This is my exact situation right now. I have to two heavyweight champions sitting on my lap and I'm freaking torn in two. I have to return one and I have no idea which one to return! I love everything about the one except for the camera or

OS - Draw (4.1 or 4.2 don't seem to drastically different to me)
Storage - One
Camera - S4
Form factor - One
Battery - S4
Sound - One
Overall fluidity - One
Intangibles (software) - S4

Decisions... decisions

How does the one win in storage when the most you can get on the phone is 64gb while the s4 the most is 128gb?

128gb max > 64gb maxx
