When the next quarter sales for the iPhone comes out and it shows that it dipped after the holiday quarter, I'll see what you post about it. Then, we can discuss more.

I think a 40 percent dip in a phones first 3 months is pretty bad.

By how much did sales gain in the usa?
Because sales fell in China by 50%.

Will the recent release of the iPhone 6/6 plus have any impact on samsungs devices in the us market?
We will know more in January/February, but the current trend does not look promising.

I have no idea but I personally know 4 people that left iphones for a gs5 and they were chick's that had a choice to get the iPhone 6.

Funny part is I just saw one of her posts on Facebook saying her messages are not coming through and is trying to shut off imessage lol

The note 4 has shipped only 4.5 million device compared to the note 3. The note 3 shipped 5 million in the first month and 10 million total. It would appear as though the note 4 is suffering from the same lack of demand that has plagued the Galaxy s5.

I personally returned my note 4.

I don't think it matters anymore, the iPhone is expected to sell over 70 million iPhones this quarter alone.

Yeah the sales gap is ever widening, especially now that the iPhone has entered the big screen arena

But this is the Alternative section of MacRumors. This is for non Apple devices. You know... The ones you don't like. So why are you here if you already know you don't like them? Are you trolling?

Because I like discussing ALL devices, not just the ones that I prefer. You are the one that's on a Mac related website using a alternative OS forum. Why aren't you just on an Android site instead?
Back on topic, you are the one that started it by calling out the OP. Why not just discuss the thread title? Are you trolling?

So, I can't join in a discussion on a forum, based on what I like? What are you doing on MacRumors, if you are only in the Alternatives section?
Of course you can. Nobody can tell you where to post on a public forum. The Alternatives section here is suitable for anybody who likes Android, has owned or owns Android devices, has an interest in Android devices etc etc. I think most of us here have experience of it. :)

Just ignore him, he usually tries to take threads off topic anyway.

I have a Galaxy S5 but no shares in Samsung so I couldn't give a damn, should I?

I am delighted with my phone it is slick and does not overheat, the only people that seem to get lag with a Galaxy S5 are those that have never owned one.

I am on several Android sites. I do post in the other threads here on MR. But I do not go to sections of devices i do not like to post negative things about devices i do not own and have no desire to own.
I guess i respect other too much to do that.......

Nope. You are consistent like that. You keep your negative posts about other devices contained to one forum, it seems. Congrats on that hate.
That said, once again, why not discuss the thread subject instead of derail?

Gear 2 sales struggling too?

I think Samsung's smart watch sales are struggling too. Did anyone else see best buy's deal of the day yesterday:

Buy one refurb Gear 2 smart watch and get one free.

Two other models (the regular Gear 2 and the Neo) were also offered as buy one get one free.

Meaning: Best Buy is buried in Gear 2 returns and is frantically trying to offload them as refurbs. So desperate they'll throw in a free one!

I'd be pissed if I'd paid full price just a few months ago.

I just want to point out I have a gs4 and gs5 and both were laggy but got significantly better with os updates.my gs5 on 4.4.4 runs amazing and has little to no lag what so ever and none of my phones ever over heated or had battery issues (6Plus hours of onscreen time)

Here is my gs5 staying on lte 4G and not even using any power saving tricks and I get almost 2 full days of power using the phone.

Edit I just looped sunspider and quadrant benches back to back twice and my cell is cold to the touch.I have no idea where you heard the gs5 has overheating issues and now re reading your post saying you had 10 gs5s just proves you are full of SH**

Well, that's your problem if you don't believe me. I am not going to put 10 IMEIs just to prove a point with a guy on the internet.

Yes but I don't think anyone anticipated such blatant demand for a larger screen iPhone.
It's becoming disruptive.

You need to add up all of samsungs phones to.be fair and compare it to the iPhone numbers.samsung has so many phones to fit every segment

Gs4
Gs5
note 3
note 4
note edge
galaxy alfa

Are all flagship from samsung and then you get the mini versions and the weird bigger camera versions along with the extra rugged dirt proof active ones.

If you want to compare numbers at least add up the gs4,gs5,note and note 4 total sales to compare to apple.

BTW the note 4 only sold 500k less then the note 3 but it's going up against so many better android phones this round and is going up directly with the iPhone 6 plus as they came out the same exact time

Also, Apple is a master around building hype and holding back on consumers. I am a Note 3 users and see no real value in upgrading to a 4. There's really no need. iPhone users often see more value because what they've had has been holding them back and they are literally chomping at the bit to get the latest and greatest catch-up product. Not so with others as many of the "upgrades" in Apple-Land are common place elsewhere.

Even my son jumped on iOS 8 for all the improvements. Nice stuff indeed, but me...meh...nothing new functionality wise in iOS8 that I don't already have in Kit Kat. He also wants the 'bigger' and thinner iP6 like his mom has vs his 4s. Meh....I don't think so since he's only 11yrs old, but also, meh to me as it's a space other Androids have been in for years. Again, nothing new or innovative there.

People love the McRib Sammich...and flock to McD's when it's released and cry when it's removed. To them, it's an upgrade from the standard #1 combo with drink. Others, enjoy much finer dining all the time.

Yes but by its second month the note 3 shipped ten million units. Samsung hasn't even announced the note 4 passing the 5 million mark.

Samsung already announced that they are cutting 30% of those device portfolio next year as well.

Your more than welcome to add up all those devices and post back here.

Refurbs.....go figure. What store would not want to unload those?

In terms of smartwatches, it's likely because the Gear S is out. I have had mine since day one and can say, it's amazing and very nice. Well worth the add to my tool bag that helps me get things done in life.

You bring up a good point my brother uses a note 3 and said he has an upgrade but is fine with his phone and the not 4 is not worth it to him.

He said it's like almost the exact same phone

The implication in the WSJ article was that most of the erosion was from the cheap Chinese manufacturers for Asian markets.

This seems to be a larger problem for all Android ecosystem players. "Good enough" is always going to be the enemy of "best in class".

B

Agreed. Samsung can't match those kinds of prices.

^^ and that's EXACTLY why Apple is keeping their products both OS and Hardware to themselves. It's a good model and one that has faired well for them in recent years.

Right I'm sure they were! Those phones were also on pre production firmware.

Feel free to Google search and post up what you find about gs5s over heating and post back

Samsung could easily match those prices, considering that they make the majority of the hardware. However, it would eat heavily into profits, which is what it wants. This is also the main reason that Apple doesn't try and match those prices. Google and Amazon can and do though, simply because they make the majority of their money off the services, not the actual hardware.

This is what I think happened.samsung put out all they could and put everything but the kitchen sink in there last 2 flagships and people went nuts buying the gs3 and gs4 and a few note 2s in there and now when the new wave of phones came out they didn't see a need to upgrade.

Honesty the gs4 to gs5 is like the same phone and the same goes to the note 3 to note 4 people.

Samsung finally hit the wall and is realizing why apple only gives minor updates in there releases
