For me, I would get a Samsung over another competitor just to root and install custom ROMS on it. I am still a newbie at that with Android although I began jailbreaking iPhones early on once I had it.

Geohot's app is so easy to root a Samsung. When I flashed a ROM on my Xiaomi the other day, I wasn't sure if I bricked it or not. It went haywire for awhile. I had to keep deleting things. After a couple days using 4.4.4 AOSP by Ivan, I must say I love it while my phone got rooted in the process. I am not even on the latest one. My battery went back to the norm or even better. No graphical glitches from MIUI 5 or touch sensitivity issues from MIUI 6 and bad RAM management are now gone. I can now use certain apps like DynamicNotifications (older apk for less RAM usage) and WakeLock Detector to check my SOT. I will miss some of MIUI customization and it does look more interesting than vanilla Android. But better RAM management (800+ MB free left instead of under 600) and smoothness is why I want to use AOSP from now on. And nomore needing to reboot or turn off the phone every 1-2 days to clear RAM. Performance over design any day.

That S6 Variant does excite me a little more. I am curious what the dev community can do with it and the type of apps they can make for it. Once you get a Samsung, use Towelroot and make it rain!

You girls/guys are so funny, Samsung de bloating bwahbwah, seriously every device they make ends up being a horrid buggy lagathon. Maybe not at first but a few months in.
TW uses so much ram it needs double what they put in So no one ever gets a smooth experience.

Keep dreaming though

And what's with the big bezels and the fugly Samsung logo on the front, I would be embarrassed pulling that thing out.

I agree on the Samsung logo, it's a complete travesty and it is embarrassing at times. I'd give anything for a nice black front that blends in with the screen when its off.

IMO you lose a LOT when you ditch touchwiz. As much as people talk down about TW IMO it's the best overlay out there, it has so many great functions. TW is head and shoulders above anything else out there, sure it's laggy but I'll take that with the functionality. If Samsung succeeds in streamlining and removing the lag it will be amazing.

Every os update on the gs5 had increased performance tremendously and it flies on lollipop.

Nice try though

Ps you know you never owned one so go crawl back where you came from

Isn't funny to watch the newbies fail to impress everyone with their lack of knowledge?
Newbie comes to MR and right away tries to put down Android and earn Apple fan points. But they don't realize how infantile they look.

Only news that matters, is the bootloader unlocked ? And is Touchwiz finally stripped down to half its RAM space ?

Do like the fact that the edge appears just to be there as a borderless option rather than pronounced curve as the Note 4.

Though I must admit I do already accidentally tip of the screen on my Moto X 2014 with its small side bezels - not sure how accidental presses are going to be handled on a device with none.

Edge is looking more and more beautiful. At least in the renders and leaks.

I'd be very interested in how real world use will be like. Can't wait to read reviews and feedback.

Samsung Galaxy S6 apps and screenshots leak, showing a remarkably cleaned-up TouchWiz

An XDA Developers board forum member leaked four Samsung apps, allegedly from the Samsung Galaxy S6. They show a cleaned-up, simplified TouchWiz with a lot less toggles, options, menus, and submenus one may expect. In addition, Samsung took those Material Design guidelines by heart, adopting the bold colors and abundant whitespaces that defined Android 5.0. This also carries over to the new S Note app's interface, which looks simpler and easier to use than ever.

IMO, if TW is even slightly better than on the Note 4, S5, and Alpha ........ then it's an automatic winner. Cause the lastest TW is pretty damn good. I only experience a hiccup or minor lag like once a month.

Sorry, but those are fake 3D renders. Look at where the sensors and front camera are. Those bezels are also too big compared to the leaked promotional material from sprint.

Every render is fake, therefore it's called ''renders''. But the S6 Edge will look likes this, maybe a few little details differences. But no different design.

Just responding to your post, as you called the pics official and not renders. As for a few little details being off, bezel size makes a big difference in looks. Imagine if the iP6 Plus had slightly smaller bezels, it would look a lot nicer. Color also makes a big difference, as this phone will not come in black. Just sayin.

The rumor is no SD slot and no removable battery. That will be a very different direction for Samsung. I know there are defenders of both but I do think this is a move in the right direction.

I'm no fan of glass backs but the rounded metal sides (just like the iPhone 6/+) are great moves. I really was not a fan of the S5 but I'm liking what I'm seeing of the S6, assuming it turns out to be the real thing.

I can understand no removable battery, but isnt the inclusion of SD card only a positive? How could it be bad? in other words. The onem8 has it, its not like unibody metal means you cant have an sd slot, how could they make a slot for the sim card in the same respect? :p

I'm still not convinced they removed the SD card though, seems very weird for samsung to abandon those two items, since theyve fought against google's insistence for removal for so long

IMO it's a ploy to force people to upgrade the memory, seems Samsung is following in Apples footsteps. They could have just created another slot for it similar to the sim slot.

This ....

Likely explain the multiple size option listings and they really need to excessively capitalise on S6 sales and this will boost profit margin on them.

For end consumers MicroSD is good, for Samsung's profit margins and shareholders - no MicroSD makes sense.
