The Verge is no longer a reputable tech blog. They've become a lifestyle/culture/(occasional)tech site. Maddening since they used to be reliable.

The Vergecast has gone from a relevant discourse on technology and its impact on modern society to a rudderless exercise in vacuous chatter.

For technology coverage, when they're compared to Anandtech, GSMArena, or PocketNow, The Verge comes off as a minor leaguer who dreams of being in "The Show" but should realize that even at AAA he's outstripped his abilities.

The Verge has lost it when Josh T. and couple other guys left a year ago. When Josh first created The Verge it was the best tech gadget site with a fresh new design and way of reviewing tech.

But that was like 3 years ago. Today its nothing even close to what it first was. And not even on my bookmarks anymore.

I going to reserve judgement on the new TW until I play with the S6 at a store or see in depth reviews.

Agreed; 100%.
Josh, Nilay, and the third, revolving, wheel could really make you think about technology and its impact on how we live. Now, there's precious little focus and the show degenerates into a mass of silliness. My biggest pet peeve is Chris Plante. He reminds me of an incontinent puppy - messing all over when excited. I just hope Nilay has a good dry cleaner.

I'm just curious how is the S4 and the S5 a loser in your opinion? I am thinking about migrating to android (to keep my 4S from suffering more) and the S5 is my #1 choice so far. It has a micro SD card, Kit-Kat, 32 gb (If I can still find one), water resistant and, a reliable ecosystem. ;) I won't be choosing the S6 for the lack water resistance, no removal battery, and no micro SD card.

I don't think they are losers. They're great phones. They just failed to meet my expectations. I actually liked the build of the S4 more than the S5. The S4 felt great in the hand, but was way too laggy. Even after the KitKat update last year, which I was hoping would make a difference, it was still too laggy to be acceptable. It would completely lock up at times. So I sold it a few months ago and am back on my iPhone 5 now.

I bought the S5 at launch but wasn't happy with the USB cover at the bottom, and the UI just didn't feel as smooth and fluid to me as stock Android. Even switching apps wasn't as quick as stock Android. I haven't used an S5 since launch, so I don't know if updates have improved it.

Once again, I have high expectations for the S6, because I love the hardware. I'm absolutely enamored by the S6 Edge (in gold). I'm just afraid the UI will let me down. I love both iOS/iPhone and (stock) Android, so it is very hard for me to make a decision.

The UI on the S6 seems drastically improved. In the videos I've watched, it seems very responsive, especially the camera. Time will tell. But Samsung devices have ALWAYS performed better with the Exynos processors.

Don't get me wrong as I own a Crystal but that isn't really a reasonable comparison versus the galaxy and what it further offers.

That depends, what your needs are and what your taste is. For me, im not into specs so the Crystal is perfect and as far as 'design' it surely is high end.

As a Samsung user, I am glad they are trying to change their direction. I also like HTC, and I actually expected more from them this year. I think as a company HTC doesn't have the resources like Samsung/Apple and should be very focussed in their approach. Instead of trying to do many things at once (fitness band, VR) they would have been better served focusing on their core mobile products now.

I generally don't like this race to ultra-thinness at all. There is no point where the smartphone should be thinner than 7mm. Anything around 8-10mm is perfectly fine. Just give us better batterylife and larger sensor.

I am sure Edge version will cost huge initially, same for any new Samsung product. I would rather wait for 4 months for prices to settle down. :D

I'm not even interested in the regular S6. I think most consumers feel the same. I wouldn't be surprised if the 32GB S6 Edge outsells the regular S6.

The S6 Edge was the main attraction, while the regular S6 was an after thought. This was the opposite of the Note 4 being the main attraction, and the Note 4 Edge being niche.

Yea, true. The Edge in S6 is different from Note 4. The Note 4 Edge was a separate display, whereas S6 Edge is part of the same 5.1 inch display. Edge on N4 was more obtrusive, this is just striking gorgeous. They mentioned that they have to heat the glass at 800 Celsius to make the curve.

I have learnt my lessons regarding Samsung devices. Wait till the initial hype settles down, and get at cheaper price!

I think its going to boil down to price

If you had to buy outright would you be willing to pay $850/950/1050

And then of course even subsidised its still likely to cost $400-500 on a lower monthly price plan.

Price & availability will dictate this one. If the difference in price was less than $150 between them - I'd agree, but price is substantial.

its nice but its pretty similar to iphone 6. Kind of lame owning a phone thats basically an imitation. HTC is at least unique in their designs. They even made the bezels bigger to match the iphone 6,

This baffles me, how in the hell does it remotely look like the iPhone 6? Is it just because of the bottom speaker grille? The S6 from the front looks unflatteringly like a typical Samsung phone. From behind it has the nice glass back that is very far from Apple's metallic back. No disrespect intended, but to say it's an "imitation" of an iPhone makes no sense.

Well that's why I said the 32gb version. People are most likely going to go for the cheapest version.

Samsung was gunning directly towards the iPhone market, and iPhone/Apple consumers obviously are willing to pay premium prices.

32gb at $850 is not that steep. Yes the iPhone 6 128gb is the same price, and the 64gb is $100 less .... but factor in the edge screen, larger display, wireless charging, and overall better specs. It's not really overpriced IMO.

Yeah, the speaker grille and also the two lines on the bottom base resemble an iPhone 6. Even so, I think Samsung did a great job with the hardware especially for the Edge. I love the back side with the camera and the color, especially Blue Topaz and Green Emerald. It's going to be too bad that carriers will ruin that lovely backside with their logos. With that being said, I still won't be getting one though.

I don't think its overpriced. I do think its pushing the ceiling of what people are willing to pay for an android smartphone where the competition is far greater than on iOS where there is only Apple.

I think average Joe soap will be have more reservations than us here.

$850 is a big ask no matter ....

I would agree if the S6 edge phone wasn't so freaking sexy and unique. It will also be easier to sell in the USA, now that the major carriers have low installment plan added to the bill.
