Yeah, the S6 Edge looks great. If the camera works as well as advertised, I may add it to my tech gear. However, being a Note diehard, I can't wait for the Note 5 edge (I'm left-handed so the dual edge screen is welcomed). It's going to be awesome.

At present (note 3), I use removable batteries often. If they have truly improved on battery life, I'll make do. The wireless charging will make it easier, too.

Sealed vs user-replaceable batteries: is your phone battery doomed? (2012)

http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/14377_sealed_vs_user-replaceable_bat.php.

Interesting comments.

Give me 32GB or 64GB of internal storage that I can quickly remove and swap with another, or plug into another device. Do not constrain my 64GB to use in only one device, that is not choice. Treat me like somebody who has some intelligence, don't take away all the metal pointy things and leave me only soft crayons to write with and plastic cutlery to eat with. Stop patronising the public.

Metal and glass design? Fingerprint scanner in the home button? Non removable battery? No SD card slot? Look at the bottom of the phone. Congrats Samsung, you just made an iPhone 6

Watched the announcement and some hands on videos and I'm impressed. Enough that I would probably pick the S6 edge over the Note 4 and Nexus 6.

Not quite. Not even close in fact. The iPhone 6 actually gets smoked across the board

Phone 6:
1GB RAM
4.7" display
720P display (326 ppi)
1810 mAh Battery
16GB starting memory option
8MP camera
1.2-megapixel front camera
Slower Charge time
10 hours WIFI use

Galaxy S6
3 GB RAM
5.1" display
1440 x 2560 pixels (577 ppi)
2550 mAh batte
32GB starting option
16MP camera
5MP Front camera
Blistering charge time
12 hours of WIFI Use

I like iPhones and I wish they were specced this good. The disparity is absolutely surreal.

It seems Samsung and HTC had reversed roles after two years.

HTC in 2012 had a financial spiral. Comes back with a beautiful M7. But omits removable battery and no micro-sd slot. Samsung in 2013 pretty much came with an S4 with a rehashed design.

Now in 2015, it seems HTC does the rehashed design. Samsung comes up with the sexier S6 Edge after a financial spiral but omits the removable battery and micro-sd altogether.

For me, the sealed battery does not bother me as much as the lack of expandable storage and glass rear. Yeah, OTG is cool but it doesn't really solve it as the cable isn't always with me. Our phones can now record in 4K, so why be stuck with a puny 32 gb? A 3 min 720p recording alone can eat up 300 mb. Back in 2010, 32 gb was good enough for me as I had only about 20 gb of media files. In 2015, I have about 35-40 gb, so 64 gb should be a bare minimum these days if you want to store "some" content. But I don't have that option and like what Apple does, will be get forced to pay more for extra storage when it is much cheaper with a micro-sd card. The fact I see 64 gb cards go for under $35 at Amazon is what drives me insane that Samsung omitted but HTC didn't for the 2nd year in a row!

Breaking news: no one who buys expensive phones cares about swappable batteries anymore

^^ Yeah, David. How can you miss or care about a feature you never had because you've been stuck as an iPhone fanboy for nearly a decade?

Apple knows BEST though. $40+ billion last quarter. 88% smartphone profits. Everyone should copy them and follow their blueprint. Our oceans and landfills will be in a much better condition because of them. As long as our gadgets look cool. Yay.

Specs don't matter in real world settings, they are just to give Android fans something to feel good about. The iPhone 6 blew the doors off the S5 when it came to almost every benchmark test anyways. I assume the A9 going into the 6S (or 7) will wipe the floor with the processor in the S6 too.

Actually the specs do matter.

The iPhone 6 screen is not very good.
The lack of RAM is felt in experience detracting way
The camera produces softer images than the S5 and Note 4
The tiny battery drains quickly
The contrast is not all that great
The PPI produces grainer images and rough image quality
The lower res results in less usable screen content
The base memory capacity is too low

ANNDDD...If we expand our review sample we find the S5 was not wiped across the floor as absolutely as you claim.

Mind you the S6 will not knee-capped with Qualcomm silicon this time around either.

8MP camera

The S6 makes mince of the iPhone in all those categories by a hefty margin, and those are the day to day things that make up a big part of the user's experience.

And Samsung went with the iPhone 4 type design which I think is the best design of any smartphone. And I am thrilled the speakers and headphone jack are on the bottom now.

Club iPhone wishes they had a device of this caliber, and I'm not even talk about the edge model. If Apple shipped something this potent it would be regarded as the second coming.

And I am saying this as someone who is described in this section as being an Apple fanboy.
Could you show me any demo shots from the new S6 that demonstrates it has a better camera than the iPhone 6? Or have you seen the 16MP description on the S6 and assumed it is better because the iPhone only has 8MP? For what it is worth megapixels mean absolutely nothing if the lens and sensor cannot back it up.

I must say I think the S6 looks like a really nice device from what I have seen so far, but I am yet to regret having an iPhone.

ADDRESSED TO ALL FORUM USERS HERE!

Right users/readers can we STOP right there, WE DO NOT need this thread turning into Samsung v's Apple. If you want one of those - create one or use the main news article forum thread.

Turning this into another jealous penis size competition thread will only inevitably end with its closure, and some users finding themselves on the wrong side of a report / time-out & potential ban if it turns into silly trolling.

This is the alternatives section. There are plenty of other sections to discuss merits of the iPhone. USE them.

Keep this thread OT with information on the GS6 & Edge only.

Bias / ignorance / jealousy & pettiness can be taken elsewhere for the sake of harmony here.

You have been asked nicely. Time to grow up peeps.

Don't need to. Had an iPhone 6 and posted sample pics in this section, which was back in September I believe. The iPhone images were in the soft side and the colors were blander than my S5.

Pics on my Note 4 are even better. The S6 has even better optics.

Totally agree. Samsung tries to stuff every single feature or spec in their phones yet they still lag, the UI is crap, and their design is garbage.

Give iOS and it's flawless operating capabilities and superior camera on the 6+ and battery life any day of the week.

Samsung phones have been continuous failures. Give me a stock experience anyday of the week like a OPO, M8, or Nexus over a Samsung phone.

Just my opinion of course. Enjoy Sammy fans

The Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi has already proven beyond doubt that Android can be made silky smooth even on low-end SoCs with amazing battery life provided there is enough RAM, no junkware and equipped with a well-optimized UI.

So what if the SoCs are low end and they lose in pointless synthetic benchmarks because this is in no way indicative of how 99% of users out there and me are using their phones on a daily basis. I find it rather funny that the upcoming cheapo phones with dual-SIM 4G, microSD, removable batteries are a ton more practical than these so-called expensive flagships.

Actually the specs do matter.

See my post, plus the vast majority of the iPhone crowd doesn't even care about specs.

I have a very different opinion on which had more accurate and better pictures but I am further pushing this off topic so I won't go into any more detail. I will be interested to see if the S6 produces better pictures than the Note 4 and S5. :)

The Edge looks so nice. I'm super tempted.

It would have to be a decent price though, I'm not paying £899 or something silly.

I agree. I think that that camera on my S5 was better than the camera on my 6 plus. It depends on what you like though as the iPhone probably produces more realistic pictures.

It seems strange that Sansdisk has just announced a 200GB micro SD card and going forward samsung phones don't support expandable storage. I got excited when I saw it for a second and then stopped as I'll never get to use it unless I buy an older Samsung phone. #

Thanks. Makes interesting reading.

At first i thought the edge business was a load of rubbish, but seeing a video, it actually looks quite cool. For the first time in years, here's a phone that genuinely looks different to all the others.

I had an S3 and S4 and then moved to Nexus and Motorola. Don't know if I could go back to Samsung, but I'm tempted.

Reading further into the S6, they've got rid of the SD card and the removeable battery!! That's utter madness. That's one of the main things that distinguished them. Plus a glass back?? Smash-tastic!

I take back what I said, I'll be steering well clear of this.

And the S6 and the HTC One and the Sharp Aquous(sp) and just about every phone that comes along.

I would love some proof. I never have mentioned those other phones besides the S6 just now. I think you have me confused with someone else. Good luck.
