Speed comparison between S6 and S5:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HGTuGkmy0s

Have you guys seen this video? The S6 is like less than 1 second faster opening some apps.

Not a huge difference IMO. TouchWiz still isn't that great, although the new design in some apps is nicer.

Not much difference at all tbh and once in memory pretty much identical.

Still looked very sleek though ;)

Yeah that is why I don't need the latest phone, for my uses phones the past couple years have been plenty. I can't imagine how annoying stuff would be if you obsess over a second or so on opening an application or doing something

Personally don't care about this. I just want TouchWiz to run smoothly, lag-free (in so far an OS can be lag-free; all OS-es lag to some degree), and reliably.

The latest TW delivers on these areas apparently, so that's more than good enough for me.

I mean, at the end of the day, who really cares if an app opens a split second faster or not, right?

I'm more interested in how it handles say 9 open apps and whether it hasn't trouble keeping them in memory. The S5 had great difficulty doing this often having to refresh content, I'm hoping the 3gb in the S6 will rectify that.

The S5 had 2GB of RAM?

How does the Note 4 handle TW?

Yep. It has 2gb. The app refreshing drove me nuts.

The Note 4 has 3gb which is fine in KitKat but on lollipop it had terrible issues with reloading / refreshing content even when my iPhone 6+ didn't. Thankfully rolled it back to KitKat and now don't have those issues.

Hopefully a decent build of Lollipop emerges soon for the Note 4.

Interesting. Every review thus far has said TW has made promising gains, both due to software being cleaner and hardware being stronger and more integrated in the S6.

I will remain hopeful.

Galaxy S6 and S6e to be in BB stores next weekend.

Next weekend at BB stores in the US.....

Next weekend, it could be your chance to walk into a Best Buy store and experience the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge for the very first time.

The company will setup display units of the handset on March 27 in stores across the country. On the Android subreddit, /u/pearbobber claimed to have spoken with a Samsung representative at a Best Buy store who said the retailer would also accept pre-orders on that date. The official launch for Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint would come on April 10.

The Samsung representative also mentioned to the curious consumer that a free device would be included with pre-orders. It is likely that a free wireless charging pad was being hinted at.

Question is Are those who are getting it..are you going to cover the metal up with a case?

If it scratches or marks as easily as Note 4's shiner parts of bezel then yep I'll be covering up the Edge with Samsung's own case for it.
If the note 5 has the same metal then I think a plastic case might be the answer.

I wouldn't want to hide the metal

Anyone else in the UK find the increasing prices of these flagship phones ridiculous? Samsung have priced the Galaxy S6 at £600, that's more than the iPhone 6 for ****'s sake. They just add a hundred quid on every year. No wonder the Moto G and Huawei phones are getting so popular when the big brands are ripping us off so much.

Honestly I'd have thought that with declining sales Samsung would have been smart and lowered their prices a bit.

What I don't understand is how a company then takes basically the same innards and puts them into a Tablet often with an even higher res screen and bigger battery (and in apples case more ram) and charges significantly LESS than the phone device.

Surely the modem part of an iPhone for example can't cost €265 more than an iPad Air 2 ?

Same with Samsung, no doubt we will see most of features of S6 range get pushed into tablet form and the. Retail at €200 cheaper than the €699 starting price of the S6 ...

That's where I think I notice the price disparity more so than comparing mid or low level devices to our new flagships.

I've noticed this as well. I think the issue is the tablet market has become a race to the bottom very quickly whereas that trend is only just starting to appear in smartphones. The Nexus 7 set the stage for cheap yet good tablets, Apple followed with the iPad mini (and the previous gen one is a steal at £220 right now). Samsung piled like ten different models on top with some priced as low as £80. Then the Chinese brands followed with better specs for the same low prices.

What we're seeing in phones is everyone wants the high end models and that's still a space dominated by big brands charging big prices. But I predict with Huawei now selling products in Western markets and other Chinese brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi looking to move into this market in the future, along with existing successful budget devices like the Moto G, we will see the same thing that's already happened to tablets, happen to phones.

If I buy another Android phone it certainly won't be from Samsung, you're now basically paying a couple hundred quid markup for the privilege of having TouchWiz on yet another device with no removable battery or SD slot.

I was hoping sooner but it was the date I was told all along by the Samsung rep in my local store.

I will be there first thing but I probably will not preorder right away and I am hoping for incentives. Maybe I can dump some of my older smart phones for good trade in value.
The Samsung rep did tell me the first 150K pre orders will get a wireless charging pad with their order.

That is pretty good but I am already covered as I have a Nokia that worked with my Nexus 7 2013 and now my Nexus 6. Yep, I am not short of toys. :)

I was all set to get the edge but the pricing has stopped me dead. I only ever buys phones sim free, but the pricing for the Edge is just a little too rich for me. Should have been about £100 less to be in the ballpark.

I think Samsung got it wrong. They have struggled over the last year, and while the S6 is a great comeback, it needs to be pitched at the right price point.

Some concerns over the Edge's ergonomics from some folks who have gotten to handle it . Very preliminary but I will see how I feel about it next week when I check it out.

Doesn't matter cause I am interested but not for the price.
