Pretty Exciting.

I am only on my second Smartphone and the first one made me realize they can be like little pocket Laptops for Business and watching Movies.

The newest Generations Mac and Android even go further- want that Camera on S6 - just need to be sure Battery life will be good enough...

Got to play with the S6, S6 Edge, and M9 side-by-side today. Posting in this thread probably give a clue as to which one will be arriving next week.

While the Edge has a bit of a cool factor going on, I found it has a few shortcomings (for me) compared to the standard S6.

1. Sharper edges which, whilst I could get used to, the S6 just feels much more comfortable and smooth and ergonomically refined.

2. Glare from the edge bends. Noticed this straight away and it's kind of annoying - especially when watching media in landscape.

3. Functionality of the 'edges' just isn't there yet. Maybe the S7 will bring some killer use cases.

Regardless of price, these made the choice pretty easy to go with the standard S6. Gone with a 32gb black after quite a few white phones recently.

Bloat was less but I'd still be rooting and killing apps I don't use sooner or later. Camera was exceptional which is important for me (OIS, quality, speed of access) as well as the screen. They even nailed the fingerprint recognition. All of this stuffed into 5.1-inch screen makes it just about the perfect size as I found the OPO and Note 4 a bit cumbersome at times.

And then there was the M9... The phone I was looking forward to this year - HTC's time to shine. My overall feeling is that, yeah it's OK... pretty decent but not outstanding and not on the same level as the S6. And at the same price point, there's only going to be one winner. Can see the S6 Edge really trouncing the M9 when people chose between them.

Anyway, looking forward to some S6 reviews from here over the next few days.

Spiter- Thanks for Mini Review.

I liked the kind of liquid effect of Edge when I saw it briefly but concerned
about the durability and if I get a S6
I will put it in a Clear Naked Case anyway...so no Edge probably.

I never cared how a phone looked then got the Alpha for small size and power with good Camera-

But S6 has a great Camera - I can send pics to be viewed on Monitors and still clear up to 12" 18" -

And I like a cool looking phone - the Black or Blue if I can get in USA.

IF the Battery can do 6-7 hours SOT at
20 to 25% brightness with Sync,location, OFF.

And hopefully factory unlocked will get VoLTE unlike every other Unlocked Phone or I will need Tmo or Metro S6.

I need you guys to check the Battery SOTs over next few weeks lol.

Charlton Heston would not recognize an Android even if it bit him in the Ass.

He won an Academy Award for

"Technology Ignorance" right ?

.....Or was it " Best Actor "?

Do you think guys the screen is scratch resistant?

My galaxy s3 after almost 3 years is flawless not a single one and i clean it each night.

I've read plenty of iphone 6 complaints regarding this aspect. Pretty much i feel if i go with Apple then i'm gonna get scratches for free...

And no Apple hater here, i have an ipod touch 5 which is flawless too after almost 3 years, not a single scratch, apparently Apple went backwards for the iphone 6, wonder if Samsung is doing the same...

I think the GG4 on the back is subject

to minor hairline scratches as one reviewer posted.

A clear case might be best to keep it Pristine.

Chance that GG4 although more shatter resistant may be a little easier to scratch than your S3- not sure though.

My Alpha was first phone to feature GG4 - but they didn't announce it till months later...seems tough but I have a Tempered Glass screen protector so Virgin when I sell it...

Dude no way this phone will get anywhere near 7 hours on screen time.

I get 7 hours on my gs5 with a Samsung OEM 3500 mah extended battery.

It amazes me how people never get scratches without a protector

I don't think I remember ever getting a scratch on a screen, I haven't used a protector in years and years. Screens are very tough these days and I don't give them a second thought.

For me the change was pretty clear, ipod touch 4s (full prone to scratches) -> ipod touch 5 (0 scratches) -> iphone 6 (again prone to scratches).

Geez i wish they belonged to the past but no they are still pretty present, again.

Any screen can scratch including GG4.

It is not car keys or loose change or even a screwdriver or pair of scissors as YouTube testers like to show off that cause the damage.

Its is tiny inconspicuous grains of sand & grit that do the damage.

A few grains in the bottom of a pocket as your phone goes in and when you add friction - hey presto that's where scratches happen.

The iPhone 6 is no more susceptible than any other idevice. Likewise whilst GG4 may offer tougher resistance to impact scratches and drops & falls (shattering) - it will still scratch just as easy with grit & sand.

Basically if you live in an environment where you are in contact with sand and grit (work in construction or live by the coast or in a desert environs) then you have increased chance of scratches.

In that instance, You have a $700/850 device, spend $20 and buy a decent screen protector.

My friend at best buy just called me and said all 3 of my gs6s came in with wireless chargers! Said if not picked up by the 11th they will sell them

I asked if I can pick them up today but it was a no go

I asked the same thing today and was rebuffed.

Has anyone gotten their pre-order email yet from Best Buy confirming their device is in?

I won't be able to pick it up till tomorrow after work, but I am going to go full nutter if they mess up this pre-order. I was told never trust Best Buy for pre-orders because they suck and fail often at it.

No, that's the typical Apple's answer mate to justify their lack of quality. I disagree.

You can disagree but what you quoted was completely accurate.

These videos of devices being beat with knives are pointless. It's the fine sediment that accumulates in pockets with will wreak your screen faster than car keys.

Sorry, Then you clearly do not know what you are talking about I'm afraid.

Exactly.

See for yourself. This phone repair runs a box cutter razor across it.

Another pointless bravado video.

Explain why so many folks here are receiving phones that are scratched

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3070278

Why do you never see scratch videos rubbing very fine sandpaper over screens.

AndroidAuthority article said:
We all know it’s a thing. Pocket sand can wreck a phone. I know purses get it too. So you obviously need to think this through and make a plan that works for you. I personally am rarely around sand or dirt and never put anything in my designated phone pocket except for my phone, so I haven’t run into the pocket sand issue. But sand, especially beach sand, is the hard material left over from thousands of years of waves crashing and wearing it down. It’s hard stuff and will easily scratch all parts of your phone. When I go to the beach, I put my phone in a plastic sandwich bag and don’t take it out until I’m sure the coast is clear

http://www.xda-developers.com/truth-about-gorilla-glass-drops-tests-composition-xda-developer-tv/

Most modern smartphones use scratch-resistant glass on their screens, but every once in awhile you'll see that your phone still gets some fine scratches. XDA Developers nails down the source: it's not the change or the keys in your pocket, it's the sand.

XDA does a bit of experimentation with a number of Spigen screen protectors, which use tempered glass to keep scratches off your phone (not unlike the "Gorilla Glass" that coats most modern smartphones). They test it against keys, coins, sand, and other materials to see what scratches it the most. Surprisingly, most materials didn't leave a mark, but that hard, gritty sand that's floating around in your pocket—or on your desk, or anywhere else—actually has the potential to leave some scratches in your phone, showing us that screen protectors can still be useful. Check out the video above to see their tests in action (though close your eyes at the end, it gets pretty scary when she does the drop tests).

I hope the metal bands hold up well. I plan to just apply a screen protector on the front and back, like someone else suggested.

Thinking I might order this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UH8YNUS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

What a steal. Less than 6 bucks, you get 3 front and 2 back screen protectors. And they're both dry apply, which I like. I was reading about the wet apply ones, and they look crazy. I wouldn't risk getting my S6 wet.

Hope the exposed metal frame of the S6 don't scuff easily...!

A former member here suggested these skins/protectors a while back and they've been my go to choice ever since. Yes, the traditional films are a wet install but it's only the protectors that are wet and in my experience, wet installs go on so much better resulting in a dust/bubble free result and really good adherence. There's also a 75% off coupon code so a full body kits costs a little over $3!

They do now also offer a dry film but I have no experience with it so can't comment.

I've used on my Apple devices and my HTC M7 (rear panel only as I don't like the feeling of screen protectors) for the past few years, very happy with the results.

I played around with a GS6 at tmobile yesterday.
Just some of my impressions.
  • Screen is amazing
  • UI much more fluid then old touch whiz
  • Looks like an iPhone 6 from the bottom
  • Overall Samsung has a hit on their hands

Wow, sweet deal. If the dry ones don't work out, I'll look into this. Thanks.

My main worry with these skins is how they might affect wireless charging. Not so much the charging part, but will they cause the phone to overheat cause the film protector might trap heat somehow? I don't know..

I agree with MRU's Post about
small scratches on ANY screen from especially tiny grains of sand as he pointed out.

This has Nothing to do with AppleVs.
Samsung..
Apple versus Android - lol.

Those of you who think that it is part of an Agenda should remember that
Gorillas are not used or present during the manufacture of Gorilla Glass and that Gorillas do not show any irrational preference for one Manufacturer or another.

Actually it was me who made that post. Smorrisey was the one who said that he didn't believe it.....
