If this was the case then how come the Note 5 was faster in the prior speed test than the S7e? They both have a 1440 display, yet the N5 is faster. David mentions that in the video. The Note 5 is faster the the S7e. It is either the SD820 chip or, more likely, the full encryption on MM that slowed the S7e down.

That's a good point.

Also isn't the iPhone 6s Plus working pretty efficiently since its downscaling the whole time to 1080p? I honestly don't expect huge gains again with the a10 but all this comparing just means the a9 is still among the best 6 months later.

One of the points was that the iPhone is pushing far fewer pixels and therefore has less strain on the CPU/GPU for this sort of test. Reducing the resolution on the S7 to equal that of the 6S+, or even worse the 750p of the 6, and you would see the S7 destroy the iPhone in speed.
Something like this is not really comparable. Two different types of tech on two very different displays.

You are dreaming if you think the s7e would be faster.

These kind of tests mainly stresses flash speed, cpu speed and os efficiency. Resolution plays little to no part.

I.e. 6s and 6splus shows no difference in performance. Also if you really want to try it, lower the resolution of your pc monitor and see if it loads apps or multitasks faster. Absolutely not.

Lowering the resolution makes graphical performance faster.

Told myself I wanted to make a decision by this weekend whether to keep the s7e or return it; I still haven't decided. However, I was a bit surprised how weird my note 5 felt in hand now that I've been using my s7e as my DD for the past week.

When I handle or look at normal smartphones, the screen looks so flat. Too flat, if that makes any sense. It's bizarre.

Same here...I forced myself to use a different phone everyday this week. The 6p, 6s+, N5, S7e......
I am leaning towards keeping the S7e just because of the design and battery life. But I really have my eye on the Note 6 considering how great the S7e is...i am excited about the N6

Will you be turning in your Note 5?

It worked ..... phew ...... :D :D Just got to set it back up now, but now I'm running Samsung's official unbranded BTU UK/Ireland firmware. No more carrier logo on boot :) and hopefully faster rollout of updates.

the moment you press START on ODIN though and the process initiates .. It's very heart in your sleeves scary.

Same here. I skipped the Note 5 and S6 edge plus releases. But I'm definitely going for the Note 6. There's no question it's going to be a beast.

Yeah.. really edge of the seat stuff.

I'm already noticing A LOT of differences between my carriers firmware and the stock unbranded samsung firmware.

1. Briefing is replaced with a different UPDAY news app. Whether its any better remains to be seen.
2. Game launcher wasn't on the Three Ireland firmware, it is now.
3. Even less apps on device out of the box, definitely the least I've seen on a samsung device.

Wasn't keen on UPDAY. Ended up turning it off on mine. Be interested to see hear your views on it.

It's better than briefing - in that it's not laggy but .... as with briefing, content is sooooooooooooooooo limited (yes we needed a lot of emphasis on so) that yeah, I will stick to google Newsstand which is my GOTO news app on android and iOS. :)

I love newsstand tbh. You can customise your news with so much content from your favourite websites. It's why I rarely use the browser for my news and stuff. From MacRumors & Android Central, to Verge & Engadget, IGN to Gamespot, Independent & Guardian World News. + all my local news RTE, The Journal, Irish Times etc ... It does it a clean material way that totally cross platform and I love it. It was also one of first Apps Google updated to support iPad Pro layout. Props to Google, most of their apps are awesome. (Apple News isn't even available in Ireland)...

Same here. I was a longtime user of Flipboard, used Blinkfeed when I owned an HTC One and tried to use Apple News (awful--you're not missing anything) but Google Newsstand has been my go to for a good while now. It's very snappy, refreshes quickly, integrates iOS swipe gestures to navigate, has nice clean animations--definitely my favorite.

Return it, buy it again down the road if you feel inclined to.

Just in case people prefer graphics to get the overall picture of how Samsung is really killing it with their cameras.
