Weird thing is wifi at home i get far better on screen time than on wifi at work.

On 3 hours, 30 mins screen time with 38% left.
I've noticed the same thing and after some research and testing I've determined it's to do with the security protocols implemented with that WiFi network.

My university has a secure login WiFi network assigned to our student id's and if I'm connected to that network, my battery life plummets. My S6 used to lose upwards of 10-15% per hour while idling and connected to this network. I even spoke with the network administrator at my university and he confirmed my findings, he said it has to do with the encryption of information to prevent people from stealing the information of others as well as the tracking of usage(torrents, illegal activity).

In my case, I've resorted to using mobile data while at school but even that isn't practical as the school is built like a concrete fortress and good signal is hard to come by.

Any other suggestions why it would be so high?

Google location history if turned on will ping your location to Google to allow Google now to send you potential relevant Google card info. It has always contributed to a high system usage when enabled.

If you don't use Google now cards for traffic and such there is no point having it enabled and using extra resources.

Battery life seems to keep getting better. This is with 100% WiFi usage mainly on social media/texting and browsing the Web. I'm impressed to say the least.

Wanted to pull the trigger on an S7 edge today only to find out it’s sold out almost everywhere. Good to hear Sammy is doing well here, but sucks for me. Though it does give me more time to think.

Would the edge be a good jump from a 6s for someone who values reliability and simplicity?

Depends on your preference ultimately. The screen and camera are amazing but I've now purchased and returned my S7e twice and gone back to my 6s plus for iMessage, FaceTime...can't get people on alternative chat apps at this point especially group texts with coworkers, etc. and just personal software preference. Still a wonderful device.

You're not the only one who I hear saying this. It's pathetic to be this short sighted with communications in this generation. Are so many iPhone users seriously this closed minded? I've got BBM, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Line for messaging with various people and groups. Telegram hands down my favorite. Good thing I have a healthy mix of mobile users in my social circle.

I mean I wouldn't consider them short sighted or close minded. For folks like my parents who are around 70 or some older coworkers who aren't very tech savvy, having something as seamless as iMessage or FaceTime which doesn't require much effort on their end is a saving grace for them. The average user (not someone on a message board) is not going to routinely be checking multiple messaging apps daily. My mother, for instance, has whatsapp and maybe opens it once a week to see messages from family in India. But she FaceTime's to their iPhones almost daily. Previously, when it was Skype, she always got lost trying to open the program and then logging in and then making the call.

The short read, easy for a tech savvy individual to paint broad strokes about these cross platform solutions, but until apple opens them up, iMessage and FaceTime will always be easier and more routine for a certain population.

Anyway, if your carrier has a healthy return period, worth trying out and see if it works well in your life

And this is exactly why Google has implemented Allo and Duo, which will most likely be the answer to what you have just explained.

We'll have to see, but for an iPhone user, it still won't be as seamless (and that's not particularly google's fault) even if linked to your phone number, it won't be in lieu of the standard messaging app or facetime. It'll be more straightforward than trying to get hangouts etc up and running but it's still not going to be the solution for less tech savvy folks or people who don't wish to fiddle.

It's not really the answer but I do agree that IMessage is too convenient for those that really only need to treat it as the equivalent of local calls only, it seems almost bizarre that your whole contacts and social circle would revolve around one app by one OEM, The people without Iphones must be so lonely LOL

Although grandparents are a good case one wonders what they are doing with a smart phone in the 1st instance and the overheads etc of owning a phone of this caliber, if they can't click on an alternative Icon then there is little chance of them using anything else but I guess there are lots of users that gift old phones or US telco bundles that make this more affordable/convenient.

I do not hold on the argument of seamless either if you can't set up WhatsApp for example it's unlikely you would of been apple to set up an Apple account etc in the 1st instance

I'm sure this Imessage reliance is more of a US thing than elsewhere and even then requires a set of circumstances that is not the norm IMO

Great within your family group but with the rest of the world it's just another sms app

Something has happened with my phone as of late, it's almost as if the battery was switched out with a nuclear reactor. The battery life is simply unreal at this point, I'm hoping it stays this way but I have my doubts. To give you a perspective of what I did with my phone today, I spent upwards of 3 hours on Facebook Messenger chatting about my group project, I used Snapchat and browsed reddit/internet all with Auto Brightness enabled and with a mix of maybe 3 or 4 hours on LTE and the rest on WiFi.

Also, did anyone pick up the official Samsung leather case? It looks quite nice in pictures but it is next to impossible to find here in Canada.

In standby mode do you have wifi off when the screen isn't on? I've put it for wifi to be off when in standby mode. So not sure if it's better for battery life or not.

Yesterday I got

5 hours, 20 mins SOT
18 hours total

If you have wifi off it will rely on your GSM network for data whilst screen is off. If you have better wifi reception than cellular reception, then turning wifi off whilst screen is off and relying on cellular instead will in theory consume more battery.
