Don't agree with Michael Fisher that the S7 is the best Android phone out there (especially for the price) but damn he makes awesome videos. I am totally captivated watching them. So much better than Flossy or even MKBHD these days.

Didn't realise Michael Fisher worked at Android central. I miss him on Pocketnow.

I was torn between the international model and this model but the following decided it for me, even though this new unlocked model is about $100 more than the international model:

1. VoLTE
2. Samsung Pay
3. WiFi Calling
4. Bands
5. US Warranty
6. US Charger (Yes I know they are cheap but it's nice to get a quick charger I can use)

So what is the big deal about the June patch that some are complaining they dont have yet? Is this patch going to be some game changing patch from what we have now or are you guys just wanting a update NOW because you know there is one coming?

As someone stuck on April's patch, I'm just waiting for anything at this point.

On a slightly related point, if I were to SIM unlock my S7 edge, would I get updates from Samsung instead of waiting on my carrier?

Is this one of the carrier unlocked ones just announced? If it gets updates straight from Samsung and bypasses the carriers that's a nice deal. I'd be curious if it's missing any bands though.
I am not sure to be honest. I think it just means it can be used on any carrier. But if you are unsure i would contact them and ask.

No, those aren't being sold yet from what I can find (maybe they started selling today July 1st).

This is the international version. It is GSM only: G935FD. Samsung Pay won't work unless you flash UAE firmware. It has no warranty. It does not guarantee carrier features will work (but some do). It does have the Exynos processor though if you don't mind the other limitations.

They've been available as of yesterday-- some have had luck at their local Best Buy store. I'm very curious to see if there are any significant differences without the carrier bloat.

Best Buy is also offering a $75GC with purchase. There's a few other stores selling the unlocked NA model as well:

Over at Android Central:

Also, be warned, it comes with the Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp apps preinstalled and, unlike a bunch of Samsung and Google apps, they are NOT removable. You can disable them, but that's all. That is sure to make some people very unhappy.

Sounds like the bloat you would expect on a factory phone I guess. No carrier bloat of course.

Tmo wifi calling working.... one person having issues with Verizon wifi calling.

No one commenting on the bootloader. I don't have an account to ask.

There is another video I saw (on android authority I think) said it came out of the box with the may update. he didn't get the june one yet.

guy on reddit was pretty sure bootloader was locked, not sure how hes so sure

s7 snap 820 has always been locked, this would be a first if it was unlocked, so gotta assume it is locked i suppose. tmobile s7 being locked really adds weight to this variant being locked

I think we could all expect the BL to be locked. I haven't seen anything that would say "unlocked" means anything other than carrier unlocked. I think the BL is locked down myself.

So after using the S7 edge since release, I personally rate it a 9 out of 10.

1/2 point off, cause I feel more internal storage would be better adequate. Especially with Oclus(Gear VR) software and apps installed.

Another 1/2 point off, cause the headphone audio isn't the best compared to other phones. And Samsung's TW equalizer sucks. The speaker audio is loud enough for me, but sounds like it's all treble. Samsung should focus more on audio quality.

I didn't factor this in my rating, but I wish Samsung would have stuck with the ir blaster. The Peel app was starting to get really good. Along with another ir remote app I used.

Other than that, the S7 edge is the best Android phone I've used so far. I will most likely get the Note 7 because of that.

That still beats "Carrier IQ" or whatever trash T-Mobile puts on their devices. I wonder if Samsung is finally realizing nobody wants carrier nonsense. We just want T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling, Band 12 LTE, and VoLTE with our unlocked devices.

Question for the long time Samsung users out there:

Does your phone bog down after a year? I have never owned a Samsung device for more than a year.
