Irony is that Google finally just officially fixed the Mediaserver bug. It will roll out in the next security patch - but goodness knows when Samsung will get it, won't hold my breath! They've got enough on their plate right now.
That's one of the reasons I won't cancel my Pixel preorder...the promise of fast updates. I want to cancel because Google is such a nosy stalker so the AI assistant will be good. But I just can't resist trying a more pure version of Android.

So today I cancelled my O2 upgrade when handing back my Note 7 and bought myself a sim free S7 Edge. Ordered a BT sim as I get a discount for being a broadband customer.

Had my head set on a similar free iPhone 7 Plus but would miss the awesome AMOLED display and amazing camera. Also the fact that I have lady hands meant that operating the thing was very awkward. I also don't like IOS 10.

Since going sim free it also gives me the flexibility to swap to the S8 when that's released next year.
I like the new iPhones but I don't like ios10. I wish I could take it off of my SE.

I do animal rescue work and yesterday I was in a bit of a panic because I couldn't locate the strays I was monitoring. It looked like they might have been taken away (they weren't, they were just hiding better than usual). So I was trying to make an emergency call and I was jumpy and panicked so I grabbed my trusty SE and all I wanted to do was make a danged phone call. And normally it's not a problem but my muscle memory is all messed up since they took slide to unlock away, so that was step one that threw me off. And I came upon the news widget somehow so I was there just pawing and pawing at the screen just trying to get to my contacts list, but instead somehow clicked on one of the many Trump articles floating around. Oh well, at least it wasn't a Kardashian article. (Looking at our press headlines, you'd think the only people who exist are Kim Kardashian and Donald Trump and some horrific amalgamation of celebrity personas called a "Brangelina" that apparently is exploding and flaming out like a Note7).

It's not a problem using my SE when I'm calm, but Apple changed just enough that when I'm relying on old reflexes, it just ain't happening for me. Same with trying to get fast shots on the camera. I'm used to swiping up for the camera and the new way, though an improvement, throws me off of my game.

I actually had an easier transition to Android on Samsung.

I just can't warm up to an IPhone that's trying to give me widgets, especially one longggg widget that scrolls down for ages. I'm sure it is my fault and I'm using it all wrong and can probably fix everything in settings somehow. But to me it's like waking up one morning and finding out my beloved husband has been replaced by a pod person like in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Yeah it's hard to see it there. I keep my brightness below 50℅ so I've never had it on my phone's. I keep it around 40℅ , sometimes lower but no more than that.
Uploaded the pictures for better quality I hope.

You can check them here:

And now here is a picture of the burn-in in my S6. Took the picture with an iPhone 5, so quality sucks. You need to zoom in where the red circle is and you will see the shadow of an icon, which is the phone icon inside a WhatsApp chat for calling. There are more icons burnt next to it but can't see them in the picture. Also half of the screen is darker than the other side, with a clear line separating both tones. Really annoying.

These burn-in are very visible in person, and my phone only had 9 months when they appeared. I took the phone to two Samsung repair shops here and both guys when they saw the burn-in told me Samsung warranty doesn't repair it.

If you follow the link to the picture you will clearly see the burn-in on the S7 edge. The whole "Samsung Galaxy edge" moniker is in the centre of the screen.

Oh yeah, it's faint but there. How did that happen? Any way to avoid this?

The burn-in usually happens when there's the same image on the screen for long periods of time and with high brightness. On my S6 I've got some WhatsApp chat icons burnt at the top, and half of the screen is like brown and the other half more white. Looks really ugly.

I really haven't found a way to avoid this. I haven't really hammered my S6 that much with high brightness, but I do read a lot on the phone so maybe that had something to do.

Thanks. Oh well I'll just use and enjoy it and see what happens. If it's anything like my Apple devices have been lately, the battery will crap out on me before the screen does.

I got the update as well – but unless I am missing something there's still no way to display notifications from GMail and Whatsapp rather than phone calls and texts (which I never get)... correct?

I was actually thinking that's what the update was when I got it but it still works same as before. The Nougat update will probably bring that functionality.

At least it shows what song is playing.

One thing I miss from LG/Nexus is the full screen artwork on lock screens. For a music junkie like me, I MISS THAT.

I would think the always on display would just make the battery drain faster. I don't use it because I dont want my screen on all the time and imo I already have plenty of notifications between the LED light, sounds, taskbar, etc. I don't very often leave my phone sitting someplace and don't have a desk job.
However, if it isn't a battery drainer, I suppose it would be cool.

Samsung claims 1% drop per hour. Mine drains faster than that, but I have a lot of things syncing in background. I don't wear a watch so I find it useful. I've always had it on since I got my S7.

Anybody has had issues with the paint wearing off from the home button? I've seen this issue mentioned in reviews and just read a thread about it in another forum.

Seems like the paint in the home button can be scratched easily.

Not at all. I've had both of these since the first week of March and both are perfect.

Nope and I've not scratched my home button, something which did happen in my S6 edge.

AOD still seems pointless to me. I really don't see what's so hard about pressing a button to check the time. Plus, I think it ruins the look of the phone.

It's great for lazy bums like me who don't want to press buttons.
I put mine on night mode though and have that side facing me in bed, I can glance the time with minimal effort.
During the day I don't really use it as I have the LED cover...

Samsung is running a deal right now until end of month where if you have an old phone they will discount 100€ if you buy the S7 flat or edge. I've got an old Nokia 3310 sitting here which I could use for the offer.

S7 flat would be 445€ new! And S7 edge would be 535€ new, but I do prefer the flat version.

I've got until end of month to device, but it is a killer offer. I'd like to have back microSD expansion. My S6 is 32GB and it's not enough because I record a lot of 4K video.

Seems like the best deal right now for bang for the buck. Only 45€ more than the OnePlus 3 and better hardware. Also 45€ more than the ZTE Axon 7.

But I would prefer an IPS display on my next phone to avoid burn-in, which happens to me always it seems

The G5 is another nice option, but that's 555€ new or 430€ second hand.

When I got my S6 Edge+, I used the night clock. It was cool for a while, but it was a bit too bright for my taste, and it was a bit distracting, so I ended up turning it off.

This would be a great deal in the UK. I'd snap it up.

Which country is this offer in?
