I keep telling you that he is a man who has become dis-interested in his own story, hence the slow process of writing. He just does it out of feeling some sense of obligation to the fans.

Now that the show is out... that obligation is even less.

He's gonna Jordan us.

The sad thing is that there are distinct plot differences between the show and the book. If he was still hard at work on the book, I'd call that the true cannon, but if he has bailed, then the show eclipses the book. In the show, I imagine he has submitted a complete outline for the series and wonder how much time he is involved with the screenplay if any? I assume he is consulting.

How many more seasons is the Question? Not an implication I want it to end, just curious and I hope they don't short change us.

My understanding is this is the last season split over two time periods. Start of seven or so episodes this year, and then ending with another six or so episodes in 2018. That is what I remember reading. That may have changed, I haven't really read up on it lately. I don't want it to end either, but I want to see how it does end!!!

Last I've heard is that it's basically something on the order of 8 episodes this year and up to that next year to wrap it up.

7 + 6.

Season 7 will have 7 episodes (confirmed). Season 8 has yet to be officially ordered by HBO, but unless something changes, based on the showrunners saying 13 hours remain, it's safe to say it will have 6.

It's said they will do a movie to tie things up after the show is finished, at least that's the last plans I heard of by the show's creators during their little show promos on Soho.

Game of Thrones forever: HBO developing 4 different spinoffs

  • Will this be the time frame after the series ends or during the Series?
  • Will it involve current characters or completely new characters?
  • Will JRRM ever finish the Game of Thrones novel series or will it be published as a ghost written companion to the HBO series? There would be issues with this tact, because of inconsistencies between the previous books and the show.

It was inevitable. GoT is too lucrative not to turn it into a franchise. There's certainly no dearth of potential material, especially in the past. (Stories about the Valyrian empire or the more recent history of the House Targaryen.) I think that follow-ups on the current characters will be more difficult because most of them will be dead by the time the series ends. :)

I have no idea what GRRM will do with the books, which I haven't read. But if I were a reader, I'd be disappointed.

I would be interested in a mini-series about Aerys II Targaryen and the whole Lyanna Stark/Rhaegar Targaryen story. I know that already plays a part currently in GoT but I would like to see the whole details and especially everything leading up the the Mad King blowing everything up!

I don't want to get short changed, I also don't want the series to go on too long and the quality suffers as a result (I'm looking at you, 24).

I'd like a more in depth telling of the White Walker origins and the First Men. How The Wall was constructed, etc.

I would love a story about how and why the wall was constructed. Has it always been up to keep the white walkers out or where there other reasons behind it being built. Big ole thumbs up for this! Do a season on just this. With all the little battles both internally and externally regarding the giant wall!

I can picture the campaign to build the wall: It's gonna be a great wall, a wall like you've never seen. And the white walkers are gonna pay for it. We'll make Westeros great again.

I'm pumped for the new season. As far as the books, I have a feeling the show has zapped GRRM's motivation to tell the story. Not really a surprise... all the exciting secrets he was eager to get to are spilled. I wouldn't be surprised if he never finishes and instead just provides general materials for various spinoffs set in his world.
