Wow. Gonna be soo sick.
I am really curious what Littlefinger's role will be as the story reaches the climax and conclusion. He is the most mysterious of the remaining powers at this point, and it is odd they chose to start the trailer with his voice.

The sad thing is that there are distinct plot differences between the show and the book. If he was still hard at work on the book, I'd call that the true cannon, but if he has bailed, then the show eclipses the book. In the show, I imagine he has submitted a complete outline for the series and wonder how much time he is involved with the screenplay if any? I assume he is consulting.

I read all of the books up to the one published most recently. There are distinct plot differences, but I have come to prefer the TV series. Not least because I think the story telling is much tighter. For example
In the book, The Ramsay Bolton does not marry Sansa, he marries a girl from Winterfell, who looks like her, that the Lannister's try to pass off as her. Reek/Theon knows she's not really Sansa but dares not say
I also prefer the TV show's versions of Bronn and Shae. They are more interesting and more rounded characters. The book has a lot of digressions that are unnecessary for the story. Cutting them out has not detracted from the show at all, in my view. If anything it has enhanced the story-telling.

For the avoidance of doubt, I normally much prefer books to their movie / TV interpretations, but in this instance, I've decided not to bother carrying on with the books.

As to whether the books will be finished, that is of course, up to GRRM. From what I understand his health is not the best. I suspect he's devoted his time to the television show, as that's where the money is for now. Whether there's a need for the final book to be written, is something else. I doubt the money will be as tempting as 'consultant' fees for spin offs.

GRRM has said that several fans have already guessed the ending. My take is
The white walkers breach the wall, and ransack Westeros. The (nearly complete) fall of Westeros to the White walkers has been eased by the conflicts / wars between the houses battling for the Iron Throne. Ultimately all the main characters end up at Kings Landing. Daenarys saves the day with her dragons. Each of which has a dragon rider to control it / direct it in battle. The dragon riders are Daenarys, Jon Snow/Targaryan, and Tyrion who may yet be revealed to have Targaryan heritage (fans will recall he was able to feed the dragons in captivity without being eaten. This may also be used to explain his physical differences from Cersei and Jamie). The dragons are able to lay waste to the white walkers, and they do so across the land. Jon Snow will end up as Daenarys's husband. The new Westeros will be a fairer, more tolerant place during her reign.
[doublepost=1498132829][/doublepost]@Scepticalscribe If you are coming to the story late, I'd suggest you just watch the show. The books do not add anything. The differences (so far) are not worth reading up on. The TV show does it better, IMO.

Although I like and agree with much of your post, and the TV show is good, imo it's a highly condensed version of the story lacking the richness of the books which is achieved through depth.

It's not that noticeable in Season 1 which does a great job of following the first book, but if you've read the books, Season 2 slams you in the face with it's cursory/outline nature.

Ten episodes a season- I acknowledge the expense factor of the show, but 10 episodes a season is just not enough to offer the full experience imo. :) If you've not read the books you won't recognize the difference, but maybe it's not important if at this point, if you've opted to just watch the show., especially if no two final books will be written.

What I've suggested isn't a happy ending for:
Cersei, Jamie, Sansa, Arya, Littlefinger, Jorah, Reek/Theon, Samwell, Varys, Brienne, Davos, Podrick, Missandei, Greyworm, Margery Tyrell, Bronn, and many others

Well, whatever Benioff and Weiss have cooked up for the endgame (and I assume that even if they know who will survive, they still haven't decided exactly how to get there), it's going to take a while. Season 8 reportedly won't begin shooting until much later than expected. So it might not begin to air until late 2018 or 2019.

I'm going to Con of Thrones in Nashville this weekend. I'm sure there'll be a lot of chatter about production schedules and what's in store for season 7.

This would be very cool, if true, for the final season... 90 minute episodes.

http://tvweb.com/game-of-thrones-season-8-longer-episodes/

Paula (who is actually the sound designer, not the costume designer) also said that nobody has gotten the ending right so far. That is, all the fan theories out there are wrong somehow. Of course you can take that many ways. There's no way that she's aware of every idea that's been put forward, and she may be referring to some relatively minor detail. But HBO has been quite successful keeping GoT under wraps, so the next two seasons should be fun.

There was also a lot of talk about season 8 slipping to 2019, though I don't think that's been finalized yet.

Guess I have to thank my Att unlimited plus plan for getting hooked on this show.

I downloaded all six seasons on directv two weeks ago and have been catching up since.

WOW is all I can say. The writing and acting is really dynamic; the costumes and places where it's filmed are just stunning.

Now, mind you, I have followed this thread just to get a feel of the show. I knew there was nudity and sex but seeing it in the first few episodes kinda/shorta put me off of watching the rest of the show. I'm certainly no prude and don't mind a quick shot of nudity but there really was more than needed. By the time I got to Ramsey and his sadistic ways, I understood why the writers included it. I have 3 episodes left of season 6 to watch and I'm hoping to see Ramsey get his just due.

Being an addict of TWD, it's child's play to GOT. Each have their own dynamic story lines. Looking forward to Sunday's season opening.

After I finish season 6 I'll need to go back and read this thread in it's entirety because y'all pick on things I either missed or was confused on lol. Same thing I do on TWD thread. Thanks everyone.

Oh I cannot wait to see this :D His character is the one I most despise. One spoiler I am glad to know of. :)

edit: sorry, something happened with AlliFlowers quote and I don't know how to fix it.
I hated Joffrey more than Ramsay. While both were pretty equally terrible people, Joffrey caused a lot more harm.

Not to mention at least Ramsay earned what was his and he was clever. Joffrey was a coward and a wuss and not very smart at all.

Well I certainly enjoyed episode 9. Excellent battle scene. And seeing Sensa give a somewhat smile of satisfaction walking away from Ramsey getting attacked, devoured by the dogs was great even though I knew it was coming.

Just finished the finale. With so many deaths this season, no one is safe in season 7 I suspect. Littlefinger ... what a weasel. I see now why everyone cannot stand him.

I don’t mind LF. At least he’s clever. I love Cersei though even though she’s not clever, kind, or heroic. Lol

I enjoyed it ... it set the tone for what is to come. With Sam finding the map and sending a message to Jon, will it mean he will go to Westros for the dragon crystals.

What powers does the hound have seeing the white walkers at the wall in the fire? Did I miss something in previous episodes?

I don't think he has any special powers, so he was seeing what the god of light (or whatever) wanted him to see. It was a bit odd that they didn't show what he was describing, though.

Agree that this was a setup episode and was slow-paced, but I enjoyed it, especially Euron at King's Landing. The line about killing brothers was great, and I wonder what prize he's going to get for Cersei. I also like watching Jon and Sansa interact and reach an understanding. Littlefinger isn't happy.
