I know I shouldn't but the story line of Theon Greyjoy is excruciating to watch at times. Those scenes are some of the more visceral scenes of torture on screen.

Talk about a removing ones masculinity.

I forgot the name of the guy torturing Theon, but wow his smug face irritates me so much.

I have been renting GoT via Netflix based on a couple of friends suggestions. I am quite happy I opted to listen to them as the show really is quite amazing in its depth, story lines and production values. I'll probably end up reading or listening to the books after I get into Season 4.

What GoT does is confirm my suspicions that many book adaptations would be better served as shows like GoT rather than made into movies. I am glad that GoT has such a strong audience on its well deserved acclaim.

I've thought this for a while also. They should have made Harry Potter in a similar manner like GoT. Would have stayed much truer to the books.

There are several books out there that would have done truly better this way. What comes to mind at the top of my head ...

Ender's Game (horrible movie with respect to the book)
Percy Jackson
Divergence
I Robot (a group of short stories)
Eragon

There are of course movies that miss the mark but work well as movies such as the second and third in the series of Narnia movies. I think this has more to do with lack of ability to stay in line with the books. The first Narnia movie was reasonably well done and excellent film score. (Just my opinion of course).

Yup!!!! Man, those scenes are brutal.... and they really don't show THAT much! ugh.

Yeah, there is a part of me hoping the guy, I can't remember his name either, gets it soon!!

Leaving it up to your imagination is powerful. That was the standard for "horror" 40 years ago. :)

Me too. I'm loving how that scene ended. :)

... of course people I like tend to die. :p I read that GoT is the most expensive production on TV at something like (hope I'm not exaggerating) 5 million a show. They are filming in Ireland, Iceland, Morocco, and Croatia.

It shows too. I was so excited for the premiere yesterday.

It's hard to judge a season premiere, as with most premieres, it's just setting things up for the rest of the season.

My interest is still high, but especially having read the books, it was an hour I could've saved. Also, new Daario Naharis is weird, though both are quite off from the books, so... *shrug.*

Absolutely can't wait to sit down tonight and watch this episode.

Bloody Guardian ruined it for anyone up early enough. Massive spoilers on the main page.

Can we talk about what happened in the latest episodes in this thread? or is this spoiler-safe.

You could use white text if you want to be nice to the people who haven't seen it yet. Although I feel like if you haven't seen it and want to without spoilers you really should avoid threads on the internet.

I don't read books..I've been told I am missing out! But my attention span isn't that great when I read. lol
However, I love watching things like GoT! I think it is brilliant and I am experiancing everything 1st hand, as I don't have the books to "warn" me off or "spoil" it for me. I also don't have anything to compare the show to.....maybe that's another reason why I'm so amazed by it :)
Nice thread btw ;)

Yes, this type of thread includes spoilers. It is not spoiler safe, although most considerate participants either shield the spoiler with white text or a prominent warning at the top of the post and some just blab it without warning! :)

As a rule, I don't check into a thread for a movie or show I intend to watch until I've seen it just because there are blabber mouths! :)

I read the first two books, the first book after I watched the first season, the second book before I watched the second season. The first season seemed pretty faithful to the first book. But when I realized how much stuff they cut out of the show to fit the second book into a single season I was not happy. It made the show seem like an outline of the book, only hitting the major plot lines. Consequently I am now reading the books after I've seen a season for the show.

This is my problem, too. Especially when I know what is going to happen.
