Having never watched the series nor read the books someone sent me a link to The Red Wedding scene. I was stunned. Talk about an intense scene. Wow! I generally don't watch movies set in this time period (BC = Before Cable) but this one may have to be an exception.

What a massive spoiler! The series is pretty awesome. My wife loves English period pieces featuring knights and such and this is what initially drew her to the series, a similar setting.

Tonight, sucked

Totally butchered every story line

I think this is what happens when you reduce massive books down to 10 episode (or something like that) seasons. I'm now reading Storm of Swords. I had read Clash of Kings before viewing the second season and I distinctly remember it feeling like watching an outline or cliff notes version of the book. IMO, this is why watching the show first is better, I think. :)

i don't mind them condensing the books so much since they were a bit too long, and there are too many characters to hire for a TV show, and i hated the Bran story line. but last night, they just butchered the character arcs of almost every character

Not looking for spoilers, but it appears that Little Finger and the Tyrells are behind the assassination.

It's been more than a year since I read CoKs and in SoSs, soon after the battle of Blackwater Bay, Bronn is telling Tyrion that in the battle, soldiers saw Renly's ghost, dropped their arms and ran. I just remember the wildfire burning the ships and then Tywin and his army appear. I did not remember that so I researched and found this reference.

Loras' brother, Ser Garlan Tyrell, later wore Renly's armor in the Battle of the Blackwater to make it appear that Renly's ghost had returned for vengeance against the kinslaying Stannis.

I'm sure there are lots of things I've forgotten. :p

I found the episode really good. Do the books expand on it much more?

I am slowly progressing through them.

I found the episode really good.

I felt the opposite. It seems like we're spinning wheels here. I can see pieces being put in play and the wheels starting to turn, but it just feels slow. I guess I'd rather see one set of the story move one week and then another story the next. Instead, we're seeing baby steps across the globe.

I was watching 3-4 eps at a time though, and now I'm caught up. That could certainly explain my desire for more action in a night. It just felt quicker in previous viewings...

Whoa!

This episode felt significant.

A little disappointed that Oberyn was a no-show, though the great Diana Rigg was on hand as Olenna Tyrell so I suppose I can't complain too much :p

at this point the books are more of a guide and the show is diverging from the original story. except for the white walker part, that will probably be in the next book

From Storm of Swords (book 3), Lady Olenna, Margaery Tyrell's Grandmother:

"I've never been quite sure what the point of a eunuch is, if truth be told. It seems to me they’re only men with the useful bits cut off.”

Finally a decent episode. We could've squeezed the last 3 weeks into this one and I don't thin we'd have missed anything. Hoping this next one keeps the ball rolling.

I agree, somewhat. While the previous episodes after Joffrey's death weren't spectacular, they're better than the "fluff" episodes most network shows air. At the same, since it is on HBO and has almost a full hour of uninterrupted showing but with a condensed number of shows, I do expect to be "wowed" after each episode.

I don't know...maybe after Joffrey being killed, I've become satisfied with the show and no longer watch it to get irritated by him. It's weird that however awful Joffrey was, he made the show interesting (for me) and made me enjoy it more, even though I wanted him to die every single episode.

As an aside, I find it interesting the show isn't filmed "together." I mean, Daenerys and company are being filmed in a totally different country than the rest of the show. It makes a lot of sense, but for some reason I never thought of it until I was watching some special about the show.

Any device that raises you emotions in this example, disliking a character tends to raise your interest in seeing that character get their just rewards. What drags me down is if the bad character continually prevails. I think it's a fine line for an author to walk. I hate good vs bad stories with unhappy endings, such as why did I put myself through that? Rosemary's Baby is one such story.

There are other unhappy-ending stories that are sobering but don't effect me as much such as Fail Safe or The Bedford Incident. Those are stories on a different scale reflecting the foolish of humans.

Just started GoT (never read the books) on Sunday and I just finished up the second to last episode for season three.

I must say, ever since I got my first dog, seeing the direwolves killed is extremely difficult for me. I know its fiction and maybe Im getting squeamish because im a sensy (Scrubs should out!) but the two scenes that truly had me feeling ill was when Ned Stark had to kill his daughters direwolf and the second was when they killed Rob's direwolf.

Needless to say, Im taking a break from the show after that episode (which was pretty bloody and left a strong impression). You could imagine my surprise when my friend told me that they cut robs head off and had the wolf's head sewed on in place of robs. I honestly thought he was pulling my leg before I google'd it and saw that was true.

I know no animals were hurt while filming but still. It made me sad to see those two animals killed :(
