have you done a fresh install since you purchased it?

its just that apparently fresh installing makes it boot faster... no idea if its true.

Are you so busy that 35 second boot times ruin the deal? Additionally, Apple computers like being left on and running the maintenance scripts, etc.

haha no of course im not! im just at uni! i was just saying that apparently a reinstall has helped a few users startup times on these forums.

you dont have to tell me about leaving my computers on, the only time they get turned off is when they freeze up (MBP has 20days uptime atm). ;)

After all your posts in iMac shipment threads...I thought you ordered one the day they were announced? Duh, get the iMac. Think of that big screen. You know you've already made up your mind.

Yeah DoFoT9, I thought you already ordered yours. Didnt you and I order the same exact system?

Does anyone out there have a very large iPhoto library they can stopwatch for me?!! Im not sure if my iPhoto library is corrupted or what, but that sucker takes FOREVER to boot up on my MBP. Its almost pushing 50gb, but I didnt think that was really all the large.

Haha, I just read back a few pages and noticed you are getting called out a lot for not buying this bad boy yet! Come on man, pull that trigger! We are all here to support you. Well, not me though, I have to go look at my Order Status page 100 more times tonight!

yea man im getting slaughtered for not getting it yet! i dont see what the problem is, apple says 7-10 shipping days now, i wouldnt have wanted to be waiting a couple of weeks for shipping otherwise i would have been online EVEN MORE! (if thats possible) ;)

i will be weighing up mac vs hack soon for my personal use. so i will have a definative answer soon-ish (within the month hahahahaha).

I hear ya man. You are taking the wise approach with it. Im not as patient and level headed. Good luck with your decision.

I love my new i7! I hope you decide to join the iMac group.

i hope i decide to join the iMac group too! my poor CoreDuo MBP is getting a bit old and hot to be used as a main machine lol!

About 2 feet. I was sitting closer, but my wife moved it back when she was working on her photography. I think it was a good idea. At two feet I don't have to move my eyes as much. I get a really weird feeling after using this all day and then moving to my laptop. The same feeling I get when I drive a truck all day sitting higher up and then getting into my Honda and feeling like I'm sitting on the ground. This bigger screen is great! I was using my 15" laptop and I thought I accidentally grabbed my 10" EEE.

Here are the results for my i7 with 8 GB of RAM (I installed 4GB of some Crucial stuff I got off of Newegg literally as soon as I unboxed my iMac -- didn't even boot it up first so I have no way of knowing what the specs were beforehand).

I'm a very happy camper!

wow. impressive!

I have a small nerd confession to make... I keep finding myself looking at "About This Mac" just to see it say Core i7.

Am I alone here?

WAO! Very impressive!

Did you do the benchmark on a fresh machine? Coz I did the benchmark on my i7 after restoring from time machine backup...its highest mark was just 91xx

While I didn't run Geekbench on my toaster like spcdust to get a score of 369 ;), I did run Geekbench on my desktop PC that the iMac will be replacing. This computer is fairly old; 6-7 years and runs an AMD Athlon 1.8 GHz CPU, 1GB ram, and has ~200gb HD space. 1105 isn't that bad compared to what some guys are upgrading from, but add in the fact that it ran Windows and it is time to get rid of it. Decided to give it to my little nephews as an early Christmas present (13, 10, and 7). Still runs and better they get some use of it instead of hitting the dumpster. Can't wait to get an i7, pop in an extra 4gb of ram and get some benchmarks close to 10k. Sure will make video editing more enjoyable. Just incase you guys are interested.

I just installed Windows Vista Ultimate on Boot Camp and it has a 5.9 Experience Index rating. I figured the 4850 mobility would have been lower. This is the first computer I've owned to max out the Vista rating. I'm off to bed, but tomorrow I'm gonna try to get some game time in.

35 seconds from button push to active desktop

This is interesting. I am quite impressed to be honest. :)
Couple figures thrown in just for quick comparison:
MacBook Air 2.13Ghz 128gb SSD - 36 secs
MacBook Pro 2.93Ghz 320gb HDD @7200rpm - 49 sec
