There's an app for that!

I can sorta relate. Maybe not the same OCD as the OP, as I do use my iPhone every day and enjoy doing so. However, I'm become slightly obsessed with keeping it mint. Sure, I got a case and a screen protector like many others, but sometimes I feel like that's not enough.

I take it out of my pocket like it's a baby kitten, I'm always aware of its presence it seems and if If someone is going to bump into me. I'm contantly paranoid I'll get stuck somewhere in the rain and trip the water sensor, ect. As a matter of fact I've purchsed a second inCase neoprene sleeve used for GPSs to keep in my car in case I get caught in a downpour on the way inside the house. That's retarded.

I kept my other phones in good condition and treated them well, but I would think nothing of walking down the hallway at work texting my wife with a cup of coffee in my hand. Now I think, "OMG WHAT IF I TRIP MY WATER SENSOR?!?!"

Honestly, I blame all of you for turning me into a paranoid a**hole! ;)

edit: kadman may have a point. I bet that would solve my issue.

It seems that more people are concerned with tripping a sensor in fear that there is a possibility that one day they won't be able to get a problem that doesn't yet exist fixed.

Notice there's no mention of actually damaging the phone in the rain or with the coffee.

To me, that's just odd.

I have another idea. I *could* bring this iPhone back to Apple... tell them about the yellow screen and bezel edge and *try* to get a replacement that is like my iPhone 3G and I'd be happy again.... or I could return my iPhone 3GS, go back to my iPhone 3G and wait for Apple to fix OS 3.0 so that I can use GPS again.

You've been talking about ditching your iphone for like 3 months now man, why can't you make up your mind?

Do that. And then start a thread about it. kthzbai.

Sounds like you've given this a lot of thought already and are really just using us as a sounding board or a way to vocialize your feelings/final decision. That's cool I don't mind, but I'm not sure this site is the best place to do so. Most of those that visit here do so because they like their Apple products enough to follow the latest news, etc.

Anyway getting back on topic. Every one of us is wired up a little differently. What bothers one person, might have little to now affect (effect?) on another. At the end of the day YOU are the best person to know what will make you happy. Clearly you're not happy with the monthly cost to own an iphone and it's bleeding into other aspects of your life, affecting (effecting?) your happiness there too.

Based on the information you've given, I would recommend getting a regular joe phone and an itouch (refresh soon?). However most of us are locked into 3 year contracts so will that even be an option for you? If it is, then do it. Sure you might miss some aspects of having internet everywhere, but as you've already stated you don't use it much. In the long run I think you'll be happier and that in the end is what's most important.

Thank you for that calm post. It's really refreshing to see someone who is a little more understanding. Seriously people... stop saying "Go get help"... that's not helping me. People go through changes all the time... and it might be time for me to change. I don't need the iPhone. I don't need to be connected to everyone everywhere.

You can't afford it, big whoop... if you really could afford it you wouldn't feel the need to justify the expenditure by constantly using it, and you wouldn't feel guilty NOT using it.

It's called living within your means.

Fine. It's clear you don't really want help. You just want to post on the message board about your obsession hoping to stumble into an answer.

No one here is saying go get help because we're being unkind. We're saying go get help because it's quite obvious to everyone here that THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED MOST.

It's not mean. It's not snarky (at least when I'm writing it).

Addiction: an obsession, compulsion, or excessive psychological dependence

Wouldn't you say that you're addicted to the iPhone for better or worse? The first step is admitting you have a problem. You've done that which is GREAT! Now seek proper help. Not from a message board.

Ya, but to be fair, I'm paying $30 for a 6 gig data plan that I barely (and I mean barely) make use of.

The only reason I keep it is because the cheapest data only like $10 cheaper for a fraction of the data.

Don't let the feckers get you down TheSpaz. I'm here for you dude, no matter what you decide.

You're right. It's completely irrational. I'll admit it. Of course I don't want it damaged, but for some reason the inherent thought that I'll be turned away if something legitimate were to happen down the line is the focal point.

Eh, I'm sure it will pass. I'm way too careful with new things, is all. Eventually I'll forget about it or I'll get something better to obsess over. Anyway, I don't wanna steal Spaz's OCD thunder so...

Hey, at least spaz is not talking about returning an iPhone that has tripped water sensors in hopes of getting a replacement. He also hasn't complained that he should have tethering for nothing. Then I'd know for sure that he needs help!

$100 per month is only a little over $3 a day. Look at it that way. Using your phone $3 worth per day is pretty easy. Then you shouldn't have to worry about it.

That's not even a little bit funny. Why would you take the time to say such a thing?

He's obviously seeking attention. There must be a reason people don't give him the attention he thinks he needs. My solution is a win /win. He gets the attention he thinks he need & people no longer have to deal with his constant attention seeking.

I wasn't seeking attention. I had a topic for discussion and I wanted to discuss it. I was wondering if anyone else was feeling the way I do. That's all. Stop trying to turn this against me. You know, you don't have to respond in my threads.

Have we established that he needs constant attention? Perhaps we need a new thread/poll for that?

Question: How does Apple handle returns? Can I return my iPhone 3GS for a refund and get my old contract back?

$100 per month is only a little over $3 a day. Look at it that way. Using your phone $3 worth per day is pretty easy. Then you shouldn't have to worry about it.

It's also $1200 per year, and assuming a salary of $60,000 (just a hypothetical), that's 2% of your yearly salary on a phone he doesn't use. Not only that, take away all the taxes out of that $60,000 and turn the number into discretionary income, and you're looking at a pretty expensive piece of technology.

Now, many of us think it's worth it, but breaking things down into dollars per day sometimes leads people to make bad decisions.
